2010 Fantasy Football QB Rankings – Week 10

Here are my Week 10 fantasy football quarterback rankings. Remember that Green Bay, Oakland, New Orleans, and San Diego are on bye.

1. Eli Manning vs. Dallas
2. Peyton Manning vs. Cincinnati
3. Ben Roethlisberger vs. New England
4. Matt Schaub @ Jacksonville
5. Michael Vick @ Washington
6. Joe Flacco @ Atlanta
7. Jay Cutler vs. Minnesota
8. David Garrard vs. Houston
9. Tom Brady @ Pittsburgh
10. Matt Ryan vs. Baltimore
11. Josh Freeman vs. Carolina
12. Kyle Orton vs. Kansas City
13. Mark Sanchez @ Cleveland
14. Donovan McNabb vs. Philadelphia
15. Ryan Fitzpatrick vs. Detroit
16. Matt Cassel @ Denver
17. Carson Palmer @ Indianapolis
18. Brett Favre @ Chicago
19. Sam Bradford @ San Francisco
20. Jon Kitna @ New York Giants

Inside the numbers:

  • Dallas is a trainwreck. Eli Manning has the Giants’ offense humming. He should eat them alive at home.
  • Does it even matter who Peyton Manning is throwing too? He could take Favre’s high school buddies and put up 300 yards.
  • Look for Matt Schaub to play like last year’s version against a Jacksonville team ranked 28th in passing yards allowed per game and tied for 29th in passing TDs allowed.
  • I think Michael Vick will slide this time.
  • Joe Flacco will continue his turnaround against the shaky Atlanta pass defense (26th in passing yards allowed, 21st in passing TDs allowed).
  • I realize I may have Donovan McNabb a little high, but part of it is my hope that he can show both the Eagles and Redskins front offices that they have underestimated him.
  • Brett Favre had an unbelievable game, but he played a bad team at home. I want to see him do it on the road against the Bears, who have allowed a league low five touchdown passes.

What to do, what to do! I have Vick and Flacco … maybe I just feel comfortable rolling with either one this week?

Like them both this week. Good problem to have.

    Flacco vs or Schaub for week 10?? league is 25 yrds/pt… 6pts/td.. -1pt/sack.. -2pts/interception

@ Josh: Jacksonville’s rushing defense is almost as bad as their passing defense. Ergo, you can’t necessarily bet on Schaub having a big day. I may be in the minority here, but I’d actually roll with the more consistent Flacco against an Atlanta team that can clearly stop the run, but has given up 600+ yards and 5 TDs through the air in its last two games.

I have a few slots separating the two so it’s pretty close. Grant makes a good point, but to me it seems like a great week for Schaub to bust out. Maybe you can try to trade Schaub, mentioning the cushy matchup this week.

I’m rolling with Vick this weekened, but I am curious why so little love for Palmer?

He’s been so hit or miss and the Colts have been tough against the pass.

@anonymous – I’m not feeling VY this week. Britt is gone and Randy could take some time to get the offense down, assuming he’s giving a full effort. We all know that isn’t a given.
@timoteo – no sweat. it sucks because i like detroit’s matchup.

Once again I have a QB problem… Orton is back (but with a risky match up), Stafford may or may not play, and Campbell is on a bye…

So my question is, should I pick up Farve? He is available on WW, as well as Troy Smith, Derek Anderson, and McCoy/Wallace. Unfortunately, these are essentially my only WW options, and I must start 2 QBs. What do you think?

I’d try the old man. Sidney Rice could return. I’d probably cut ties with Stafford. Sounds like he could be done for the year.

i have both Eli and Peyton!, but who do i start? Last week i chose Peyton as i think a lot of people would and he didn’t produce as much as little brother. Thats the 2nd time i haven’t been sure who to start and Eli has beat Peyton, the first being when the Giants played the Texans. Any info on who is better this week?

I have Rice, McCoy, McFadden and Foster at running back and Matt Schaub at QB. Is Flacco for McCoy a good trade?

    November 10th, 2010 at 9:38 am #

You have the depth, but I’d shop around. If you were going to do that trade, try to get a RB back (Fred Jackson type) or try to upgrade at WR or TE as well. I’m afraid straight up you are making the other team better than what you’ll improve.

I have them 1 & 2 with Eli being on top. however, Peyton is more steady and if push came to shove I’d start him over Eli. I still think Eli will have slightly better numbers, but he is also more of a risk than Peyton.

    November 10th, 2010 at 9:42 am #

Hmm true, but do you think the matchups will play a role? I know Peyton is pretty much above matchups, but with the giants playing Dallas, and their offense moving the ball on the ground and air, and Peyton not having as many weapons. Would Peyton still be your number 1?

Going against a tough team. 2 points separate us on projected. Need to absolutely pick who’s gonna score more FP

    Garrard or rapeberger?

Like I said, Eli is my #1 for the week, but he is more volatile. He could blow up or he could make mental mistakes. His brother doesn’t seem to do it. Peyton has Tamme looking like Dallas Clark. He still has Wayne, Garcon, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Blair has a good game. I don’t think there will be a big difference in their score, and I would start Peyton over Eli because he’s a safer choice. The risk doesn’t outweigh the reward.

Thought I was set on starting Vick over Schaub, your article made me double think it – I also have McCoy and wonder if we could get him getting alot of passes out of the backfield, and thus double points for the Vick McCoy combo – Its hard to bench Bradshaw though

    I got Schaub vs. Cutler

Also have Orton but he’s lower than I expected. I could also get David Garrard from waiver wire, who seems good, but can be inconsistent.

    Any thoughts?

PPR league, standard scoring…please fill in blanks with Dez Bryant, Knowshon Moreno, Fred Jackson and LaGarrette Blount. Thank you.

    RB Michael Turner
    RB ______________
    RB/WR __________
    WR Hakeem Nicks
    WR Reggie Wayne

@ James – I like Schaub this week, but Vick has been very good when healthy. I’m not sure he’s going to get a lot of rushing yards to avoid injury, which hurts his value a little. Still, it’s hard to argue with what he’s done. I just think Schaub and AJ finally get it going this week.
@trtkyle – I like Schaub over Cutler. The Bears o-line is bad and the vikes could finally look like themselves and make it tough on Cutler. Garrard is good, but I wouldn’t start him over Schaub this week.
@Lofty – LaGarrette Blount, Dez Bryant

Thanks for last one, here’s another…

Freeman vs. CAR or Fitzpatrick vs. DET?

I am going to go with Blount and Bryant (changed from Knowshon), so leaning towards rolling with Fitzy.

    What say you?

I have Freeman slightly higher this week, but I can see going with Fitzy. I think they will put up similar numbers.

Hey Doc thanks for all the advice this season!

So I’ve been thinking about picking up Shaun Hill as a back-up QB, but I don’t who I would drop to get him.
    My team is

    QB: Flacco
    RB: Gore, Benson, Best, Wells
WR: White, Santana Moss, Santonio Holmes, Knox, Sydney Rice
    TE: Shiancoe, Zach Miller
    DST: Vikings, Ravens

Normally I’d drop 1 of my TE’s or Defs, but I’m using the Viks this week and really think the Ravens are getting back on track w/Ed Reed back so I’d like to keep them

SImilarly I’m using Shiancoe this week but hope Miller can return to that pre-injurylevel of production after his bye.

Any thoughts, both Hill and Favre are on the WW, do you think I should grab one of them or just stay put? And who would I drop?

I don’t see anybody I would drop for Hill. At least not this week with Miller on bye.

So any last-minute feelings about Vick vs Flacco? Both are very appetizing matchups, as both WSH and ATL have been terrible against the pass over the last 4 weeks. Andy Behrens (Yahoo), who is typically their best projector, surprised me by putting Vick at #1 this week.

You have any gut feelings about this?

  32. LestersLegends
    November 11th, 2010 at 4:14 pm #

My gut says it’s harder for defenses to recover in the short week than offenses so I can see using Flacco. I just have Vick one notch higher. I think he’s motivated since they were the team that hurt him. Another reason to use Flacco is silly, but it’s nice having someone to follow in the TNF game.

  33. Grant
    November 11th, 2010 at 5:01 pm #

    I don’t get NFL Network so it’s OK. :)

I’ve decided to go with Vick … and the biggest motivation is based on how Philly used him near the goal line in that one series last week … after the TD pass to Avant (yes, it was a TD) was declared short, they went with Vick up the middle twice. I feel like he always has the best chance to score anywhere in the red zone. With Baltimore, it’s still probably Rice or McGahee over Flacco near the goal line, in real terms.

I’m stuck on whether to start Vick or Roethlisberger as my QB this weekend. I like Big Ben’s chances against NE’s recently struggling D, but his performance against CIN last weekend has me worried a bit. I just wonder if Vick’s running ability would make him a better choice?

  36. LestersLegends
    November 12th, 2010 at 10:41 am #

I have them pretty close in rankings. If your gut says Vick, then I would go with it.

What do you think about starting Garrard vs. Fitzpatrick? I know, a good problem to have… I think Garrard has the better matchup on paper vs. Houston, but his consistency is worrying me. Fitz, on te other hand, has been Mr. Consistent this season. Looking for other opinions. Thanks!

I have Garrard 8 and Fitz 15. I’m starting Garrard over Brady in two leagues. Garrard is due for a big game I believe.
