2010 Fantasy Football RB Rankings – Week 8

Oct 26, 2010

Here’s my Week 8 running back rankings. Keep in mind that the Bears, Browns, Eagles, Falcons, Giants, and Ravens are on bye.

1. Frank Gore vs. Denver
2. Arian Foster @ Indianapolis
3. Adrian Peterson @ New England
4. Darren McFadden vs. Seattle
5. Chris Johnson @ San Diego
6. Ryan Torain @ Detroit
7. Steven Jackson vs. Carolina
8. Rashard Mendenhall @ New Orleans
9. Thomas Jones vs. Buffalo
10. LaDainian Tomlinson vs. Green Bay
11. Jamaal Charles vs. Buffalo
12. Jahvid Best vs. Washington
13. Maurice Jones-Drew @ Dallas
14. Cedric Benson vs. Miami
15. Felix Jones vs. Jacksonville
16. Jonathan Stewart @ St. Louis
17. Beanie Wells vs. Tampa Bay
18. Marshawn Lynch @ Oakland
19. Knowshon Moreno @ San Francisco
20. Fred Jackson @ Kansas City
21. Ryan Mathews vs. Tennessee
22. Shonn Greene vs. Green Bay
23. LeGarrette Blount @ Arizona
24. Mike Hart vs. Houston
25. Ronnie Brown @ Cincinnati
26. Brandon Jackson @ New York Jets
27. Christopher Ivory vs. Pittsburgh
28. Tim Hightower vs. Tampa Bay
29. Mike Tolbert vs. Tennessee
30. Ricky Williams @ Cincinnati

Inside the numbers:

  • Frank Gore should have a big day against a Broncos defense allowing 156.3 yards per game on the ground with a league high 12 rushing TDs allowed.
  • Arian Foster destroyed the Colts for 231 yards and three TDs in Week 1. While I’d be shocked if he matched that performance, he’s still a great play against an Indy run defense allowing 137.3 yards per game.
  • Buffalo has allowed a league high 174.5 rushing yards per game, along with 8 rushing TDs. There is a great chance both Thomas Jones and Jamaal Charles have big weeks once again.
  • The Packers are giving up 124.3 yards per game at a 4.7 yards per carry clip. Both RBs in the Jets #2 rushing offense (LT, Shonn Greene) should be solid plays this week.
  • Steven Jackson will likely be a game time decision, but knowing his pain threshold, he’ll be able to fight through it despite the broken finger.
  • Beanie Wells should build off his solid game (54 yards, TD) against a Tampa defense allowing 157.7 rushing yards per game.
  • I’m not confident Donald Brown is ready so I think the Colts use Mike Hart, but mostly rely on Peyton’s arm.

Legarrette Blount is not playing vs St. Louis. Might wanna update that. He is at Arizona who happens to have a bottom 5 rush defense. Blount is a sneaky start this week.

Interested in your thoughts … PPR league, start 2 RB … and I’ve placed *’s by my current choices:

    *C. Johnson @ SD
    M. Jones-Drew @ DAL
    *J. Charles vs BUF

Hard to sit Charles, he has yet to have a bad week. So I’m kinda in a toss-up between CJ and MJD … awful choice to have to make, right? :) What do you think, considering it’s a PPR?

K, need your help bigtime here, in a PPR league here’s my team with a trade scenario

RB: Turner, Moreno, Pierre Thomas, Torain
WR: Nicks, Jennings, Andre Johnson, Kenny Britt, Mike Williams (Sea), Steve Smith (Car), Deion Branch

….i’ve traded well this year and made great pickups at the right

Given that…..would you trade Britt and Moreno for Chris Johnson or Britt, Moreno, and Branch for CJ…..thanks!

    October 27th, 2010 at 10:32 am #

Grant – I still lean towards CJ because he can turn in a monster game at any moment. Even if he doesn’t, he still a solid producer just about every week.
JW – I would make either of those trades.

Turner, CJ with PT and Torain as backups
Nicks, Jennings, AJ, M Will, Smith

    that’s a sick lineup

who should i start this week my starting lineup is as follows andre, harvin, mendenhall, charles, now its either moreno or lloyd. or do i sit harvin and start both lloyd and moreno? also qb concerns for week 8 fitzpatrick or stafford? i have vick after next weeks bye

  9. Grant
    October 27th, 2010 at 5:47 pm #

    I’ll throw in my 2 cents …

I would start Lloyd over Moreno. I wouldn’t be that concerned about Lloyd’s dip in production because he’s drawn the two best corners in the league the last two weeks (and injured Revis is still Revis, and Asomugha). SF is decent-to-good against the run.

That said … if Favre sits this week, I would probably sit Harvin and take my chances with Moreno.

At QB … I had the choice between a plethora of QBs (including Cassel, McNabb, Sanchez, Stafford) for the bye week, and I went with Fitzpatrick over all of them. Great thing about Buffalo is you know they’ll be playing catch-up for most of the game, and Fitzpatrick just looked good against one of the best secondaries in the NFL (Baltimore).

  10. LestersLegends
    October 27th, 2010 at 7:43 pm #

I’d keep Harvin in regardless of who’s at QB. The way Favre has played, I don’t think Tarvaris would be much of a drop off. As for Lloyd or Moreno, I’d probably lean toward Knowshon. I think he’ll be active both in the running game and in the passing game. I just think he’s more likely to score a TD.

I would go Fitzpatrick over Stafford. You never know how Stafford is going to react to that first hit.

@ Grant – thanks for adding. I think the more opinions you have the better.

    QB: Rivers
RB: Mike Turner, LT, and Mendenhall
WR: Andre Johnson, DeSean Jackson, Kenny Britt, Jabar Gaffney, Johnny Knox, and Santonio Holmes
    TE: Brandon Pettegrew
    K: Bironas
    DST: Seahawks & Vikings

It may be hard to believe, but I am actually 2-5. I have the 3rd most points in my league, but every week my opponents seem to play well and have often scored 20 or 30 points more than their previous or following weeks. I don’t think I am in a bad spot, but if I want to make the playoffs I need to have more consistency throughout my team, after Jackson went down I have been looking for value in the WR position, but I also could use a stud TE. Who is of trading value and what should I look to get out of a trade here. We start 2 WR and 2 RB in my league and it is not a PPR. Also I have been picking up DST (ie: Seahawks) almost every week to start for a Vikings Def. I have little confidence in, is it time to drop/trade the Defense I picked up in the draft. It seems risky to me, but on the other hand they have done very little to earn a locked roster spot for several weeks.

  12. LestersLegends
    October 28th, 2010 at 6:55 am #

The Vikings aren’t getting a pass rush so I can see dropping him. As for trades you can’t deal Holmes or Gaffney because they won’t get you anything. You have four legit in AJ, DeSean, Britt, and Knox, but I’m not sure I’d deal that depth. Maybe package Knox and Pettigrew for a TE upgrade. I think the main thing is just hoping the bad luck stops. Sometimes it just seems like it’s not your year.

Have a bit of a dilemma this week. I currently got:

    QB: Rivers
    WR1: Calvin Johnson
    WR2: Ward
RB1: Steven Jackson (assuming he’s healthy
    RB2: McFadden

TE: Should I start Witten or Keller? I’m inclined to go with Witten b/c I liked how he looked with Kitna throwing him the ball, but I’m still not sold he can find his way into the endzone (like Keller seems to do almost every week)

    And my biggest dilemma:

FLEX: Michael Bush? Jarvus Green Ellis? Lee Evans? Who do I start here? I literally have no idea — what percentage of carries do you anticipate Bush getting against the Seahawks?

    Thanks for the help!

  14. LestersLegends
    October 28th, 2010 at 8:47 am #

I too like Witten this week. I think they are very close, but I give the edge to Witten.

As for your flex, that’s a tough one (hence the dilemma). Bush is the backup. I don’t think he would have had nearly the number of carries if they didn’t romp. BJGE has scored in four straight games, but the Vikes have only allowd 3 TDs on the ground. Plus he has just 44 yards the past two weeks. That brings us to Lee Evans. He’s hit or miss, BUT he has four TDs over the past two games as well as 11 catches for 192 yards. He’s the guy I’d roll with.

I’m shallow at RB this week due to byes and injuries. Would you feel better about starting Donald Brown or Justin Forsett in a ppr league?

  16. LestersLegends
    October 28th, 2010 at 2:29 pm #

I would say Forsett. You can’t be sure Brown is going to play and, if he does, stay healthy.

Hey, in big bye week prob..im starting mcnabb at qb..as of right now have d williams and l blount..if d will is out i have m barber backing him or i could make a trade roy williams for forsett? what do ya think..wr wise i have a johnson m wallace and for this week williams is in so far..After this week i wont need him with boldin and knox on bye..what should i do? thanks

  21. LestersLegends
    October 28th, 2010 at 9:46 pm #

what is your record? i know you don’t want to lose any, but can you afford to? I hate giving up roy for forsett, especially if dwill plays. however, if you need a win, i’d shop him or even knox around for a rb. you’re already going with one split guy in blount. rolling with barber too would be kinda ugly.

  22. Dan
    October 29th, 2010 at 6:00 am #

Thanks Lester. I was actually able to snag Blount off the waiver wire so I’m leaning towards playing him over both Brown and Forsett, despite the ppr format.

I’m thinking of starting Foster, Thomas Jones, and Marshawn Lynch. And benching Jahvid Best and Mendenhall… Can’t make up my mind on Mendenhall. I feel like he’s going to get shut down, but is it crazy to bench him?

  26. LestersLegends
    October 29th, 2010 at 9:05 am #

I wouldn’t bench Mendy over Lynch. Lynch is still sharing with Forsett.

  27. LestersLegends
    October 29th, 2010 at 9:09 am #

Benson has Pitt twice and the Jets.

He also has Indy, Buffalo, and Cleveland (in Week 15 no less).

Charles has Oakland, Arizona, and St. Louis (also in week 15).

I think he is the better play going forward.

I’m in a standard 10 team league I am having some problems deciding who to start. We start 2 qbs, 2 wr, 2 rbs, 1 flex, a kicker and def.
Qbs- matt cassell, Carson Palmer and mathew stafford
Wr- T.O, Randy moss, Michael crabtree, Blair white, with maclin on bye
I am starting the seahawks def and ryan succop. I am thinking of picking up legarett Blount or mike hart to start in my flex spot

  29. LestersLegends
    October 29th, 2010 at 9:43 am #

I’d sit Stafford because you don’t know how he’ll react to a few hard hits. I’d go with T.O. and Moss (you have three of the biggest divas at WR by the way). I like the blount start better at flex because you don’t know how the carries will go for the Colts and they play on MNF.

yeah i agree with the barber thing and to have to pray for a goal line touch let alone td would be asking alot..im 4-3 playing a bad team if i do get out with a win it would be huge with this bein my last bye week i get flocco hillis mccoy boldin akers n g men d fense back..in the back of my mind if d will dont play and i shoot for forsett and go out and pick up another gamble guy as in james jones or gettis..theres gamble’s everywhere i agree u never wanna loose and always wanna put the best team out ..as u can see im in a bind haha

No point risking D-Will on a bad team with a very capable RB in J-Stew. It’s time to get in hurry up mode to find something. Even if you fall to 4-4, you’re strong going forward.

Foster, Mike wallace, Brandon Marshall, Braylon Edwards who I am replacing over Miles austin. Defense should I chose Tampa bay or New york Jets and my kicker is Nick Folk. I may try Miles because Garrett may be able to get the offense back on track. Either way, they are good choices. Both defenses are also good choices. i’d lean towards TB because Carolina was bad before all the injuries hit.
