Here’s my Week 14 tight end rankings.

1. Antonio Gates vs. Kansas City
2. Vernon Davis vs. Seattle
3. Jacob Tamme @ Tennessee (Thursday)
4. Jason Witten vs. Philadelphia
5. Kellen Winslow @ Washington
6. Chris Cooley vs. Tampa Bay
7. Brent Celek vs. Dallas
8. Benjamin Watson @ Buffalo
9. Kevin Boss @ Minnesota
10. Dustin Keller vs. Miami
11. Marcedes Lewis vs. Oakland
12. Greg Olsen vs. New England
13. Rob Gronkowski @ Chicago
14. Aaron Hernandez @ Chicago
15. Tony Gonzalez @ Carolina
16. Brandon Pettigrew vs. Green Bay
17. Joel Dreessen vs. Baltimore (Monday)
18. Ed Dickson @ Houston (Monday)
19. Jermaine Gresham @ Pittsburgh
20. Jimmy Graham vs. St. Louis

Inside the numbers:

  • He probably won’t practice much, but Antonio Gates has reclaimed his top TE status.
  • Vernon Davis is coming off a monster 126 yard, TD performance. Last time he faced Seattle he caught eight passes for 73 yards.
  • Jason Witten is dealing with an ankle injury, but he’ll likely be able to go against the Eagles. The last time he faced them he caught six passes for 76 yards and a touchdown.
  • The last time Brent Celek faced the Cowboys he caught seven passes for 96 yards.
  • Benjamin Watson should be very active once again with Jake Delhomme under center.
  • I can’t bring myself to call Tony Gonzalez a fantasy starter anymore.
  • Ed Dickson is my sleeper pick filling in for the injured Todd Heap against Houston’s shaky pass defense.

Interesting … I was looking at Dickson this week as my replacement for Heap. My legit options are Celek, Miller (OAK), Pettigrew, Keller, Dickson, and Boss. If you had to roll with just one of those for Week 14 in a PPR league, would it be Celek or someone else?

I like how Celek has been involved in recent weeks. Miller is too big of a risk. Keller disappears too much. Dickson is a risk. G-Men are getting healthy at WR plus the running game is in full force so will they use Boss much. Pettigrew is an option as well. This has been a weird year at TE. Personally I like Celek this week, but wouldn’t fault you for going with any of those other options.

Thanks to your picks I won again. So week 14 Who should i start T. Brady, J. Freeman, LT, A. Foster, A. Peterson, Deon Branch, Miles austin, Brandon Marshall, Mike Wallace, Braylon Edwards. Ny defense or tampa Bay defense.

Nice. I say you gotta roll with Brady the way he’s playing. Foster and Peterson because they are also must-starts. I like Branch because he and Brady are clicking, Austin because he should get plenty of looks with Dez gone, and Wallace because he’s been awesome as well this year. Can’t trust Marsahll and Braylon drops too many passes. I like both defenses this week. Tampa’s a little more because Washington is a mess.

Gonzalez or Watson in ppr format? I’m worried about Gonzo but it’s really tough to bench a big name in the playoffs! I’m hearing lots of snow in Buffalo on Sunday so wondering if Watson gets lots of checkdown looks…

I like Watson this week. Gonzo has been invisible at times this year. Watson is the top target while Gonzo is further down the list.

    Hey Lester,

I am a first time poster, but I like what you have going here. I have a problem with my TE. First of all I drafted Tony Gonzalez like a chump and he hasn’t produced all year. Secondly I picked up Heath Miller after Big Ben returned, once again not the same as last year. So my bind is this start T. Gon who i know you are over, or give the rookie a chance. I picked up Dickson this week and want to give him a start. any thoughts?

Josh – tough spot to be in, but your intentions were good. I have Gonzo in a league too and have suffered the same frustration. I may go with Gonzo, but I’m a little less of a risk taker. If you want to roll the dice, Dickson does have a good matchup.
