Here’s my Week 9 tight end rankings. Keep in mind that the Broncos, Jaguars, Niners, Rams, Redskins, and Titans are on bye.

.
1. Antonio Gates @ Houtson
2. Jason Witten @ Green Bay
3. Tony Gonzalez vs. Tampa Bay
4. Dustin Keller @ Detroit
5. Zach Miller vs. Kansas City
6. Brent Celek vs. Indianapolis
7. Aaron Hernandez @ Cleveland
8. Kellen Winslow @ Atlanta
9. Visanthe Shiancoe vs. Arizona
10. Jacob Tamme @ Philadelphia
11. Todd Heap vs. Miami
12. Tony Moeaki @ Oakland
13. Greg Olsen @ Buffalo
14. Brandon Pettigrew vs. New York Jets
15. Heath Miller @ Cincinnati
.
.

Inside the numbers:

  • Gates has nine TDs in eight games. He’s averaging 82.9 yards per game. Nobody is even close to him.
  • Jason Witten has 19 catches and 2 TDs in the past two games. Jon Kitna has restored his fantasy value.
  • With a bye week looming, the Raiders may opt to rest Zach Miller (foot).
  • With Randy Moss gone, the Vikings will likely rely on Visanthe Shiancoe more.
  • It sure looks like Jacob Tamme does a good Dallas Clark impression.

Any specific reason you still have so much faith in Keller? He has been awful the past few weeks and, with Santonio Holmes back, he has not been among the focus’ of the passing game. Plus, I find it hard to trust Mark Sanchez at this point…

Not to speak for Lester, but I have a feeling that Sanchez is going to start targeting Keller like he was early on. On Sunday, Jerricho Cotchery was targeted 15 times — FIFTEEN! — resulting in 4 catches for 89 yards. Holmes and Cotchery both had some key drops against Green Bay, and Keller doesn’t drop the ball very often.

Two more things … first you said you find it hard to trust Sanchez at this point. I’ll agree – and young, nervous QBs tend to look for their RBs and TEs more often. Second, the NYJ schedule is really soft coming up. I feel like Keller has just hit a soft patch and will pick it back up this weekend against Detroit.

Three good TEs are on bye this week so that helps his cause. Plus, I think playing inside will help get the passing game on track.

I would like your advice. Shaub or Fitzy? I have A. Johnson, Nicks and Boldin. I was thinking of starting Bush and Mcfadden together this week. I also have J. Best, B Wells, F. Jackson, J. Stew and S. Breaston. Z.Miller or Pettigrew for TE. Any advice may be helpfull.

You have a pretty nice squad assembled. I’d go with Schaub, Best over Bush, Pettigrew at TE.

Wells is a having some issues with his knee and I don’t trust Z. Miller’s foot right now.

Lester – You dominate the TE rankings at nearly 60% efficiency.

Can you explain why you think Celek is going to put up big numbers when he is playing vs. IND (one of the best defense vs. TE’s this year) . Also, Why isn’t Heap on the list? Miami is pretty terrible vs. TE’s.

Hopefully Gates can play this week.

Gates is a tough SOB. Pretty serious injury.

I think the bye week did Celek wonders both physically and mentally. DeSean Jackson’s return should stretch the field and open things up in the middle for him. Part of it is just hunch.

As for Heap, he is a bit inconsistent, plus it sounds like the Ravens are looking to get Ed Dickson nor Dennis Pitta in the mx a bit so Heap doesn’t wear down. Just not feeling him this week.

Yeah, Unfortunately I’m gearing for the playoffs in one league and traded Felix Jones and Z Miller for Gates because I was under the impression earlier in the week that F Jones and Miller were both injured. F Jones is glass and Z Miller is inconstant without Bruce Gradkowski at QB.

Two hours after the trade was approved I got word of Gates latest injury and the next day F Jones is back to practicing. It’s amazing how karma always come back at you.

Hopefully Gates will sit out this week (get healthy for week 11+) and I will pick up Celek off the FA. If Gates does miss this week where would you rank SD Backup TE McMichael vs. HOU?

I would have a hard time relying on him if you were in the hunt. He hasn’t topped 50 yards since week 1 of 2008 and has just one TD since Week 14 of 2007.

I’m moving John Carlson out of the ranking for Todd Heap.

I’d go with Tamme. He showed a lot on MNF, even though it was against Houston. Moeaki has been like a 4.5 point TE the past forever it seems.
