Here’s my Week 8 team defense rankings.

1. Dallas  vs. Jacksonville
2. Kansas City vs. Buffalo
3. Tampa Bay @ Arizona
4. Washington @ Detroit
5. New York Jets vs. Green Bay
6. Pittsburgh @ New Orleans
7. Denver @ San Francisco
8. St. Louis vs. Carolina
9. San Francisco vs. Denver
10. Seattle @ Oakland
11. Cincinnati vs. Miami
12. New England vs. Minnesota
13. Tennessee @ San Diego
14. Carolina @ St. Louis
15. Miami @ Cincinnati

Inside the numbers:

  • Jacksonville is one of two teams, along with Chicago, that has allowed at least 15 sacks with at least 11 INTs.
  • Arizona has allowed 21 sacks and has only managed 237.8 yards per game.
  • Carolina is dead last with 12.5 points per game. Every else has at least 16.1 ppg.
  • Tennessee is tied for the league with 25 sacks. They are facing the Chargers, who have lost 12 fumbles.

    Something’s wrong with your rankings … I don’t see Houston anywhere :)

But seriously … call me crazy but I have a feeling the N’awlins defense is going to step up this week big time.

Haha. I don’t see that happening against Pittsburgh though.

You’re right. Just wanted to hear myself say it.

So Dallas is available in my league … you say go for it?

I think their back is against the wall. Their QB is hurt. I think they respond well this week.

Alright, here’s my retort against your rankings, specifically the top 3. Unfortunately, grantsgamers.com is still in development (or probably already owned by somebody else), so this is where my opinion shall be expressed.

    - Dallas DEF has given me no reason to believe in them … just because they play Jacksonville doesn’t justify it for me.

    - After Buffalo hung 34 on Baltimore, couldn’t they do the same against a slightly-weaker KC defense? (Also consider that Jacksonville put up 20 non-trash-time points against KC last week, with Todd Bouman – who? – at the helm.)

    - And just for fun … damn it, this is the week that Fitzgerald and Co break out of the slump. The TB defensive line is so weak (2nd-to-last in rushing D, last in sacks) that I think Arizona should easily be able to establish the run early (as New Orleans did) and open up what anemic passing game they have as a result.

In all sincerity, I think the Detroit D has been overlooked for this week. We’re so used to thinking “Detroit — ewww”, but only 3 weeks ago they completely shut down St. Louis, followed by a ‘respectable’ showing against NYG, followed by a bye week. Washington hasn’t exactly been the poster child for offensive success this year either. I think you should consider Detroit this week.

Defensive rankings are hard to predict because defensive TDs, which are rare, but happen, change the whole dynamics. Scoring varies from league to league. That said, it’s a gut thing with Dallas. They have been pushed to the limit. I think they are in a corner (much like the Giants were after the Colts game) and they respond. Do I think they are as talented as NYG? No. But, they do have talent on both sides of the ball and I think they come out blazing.

Buffalo has been impressive, but I’m not convinced they can go into Arrowhead and give it to them.

I think Arizona has too many mistakes and Tampa picks up a few sacks and turnovers. I don’t see Arizona hanging a big score on them.

This is really a bad week for defense. It seems the good ones face tough teams.

That is a good point about Detroit. I just get the feeling McNabb picks them apart.

I, by no means, think my rankings are gospel. Just my thoughts. I’m glad to have your perspective.

Boy I’m really glad I picked up Detroit and not Dallas … say WHAAAT? :)

It was a gut decision that turned out to be indigestion.
