2011 Fantasy Football Start/Sit Week 9

.
Here’s a look at LestersLegends sit and start advice as you set your lineups for the ninth week of the NFL season.
.
Quarterbacks
Start:
Ben Roethlisberger vs. Pittsburgh: The inclination could be to sit Big Ben against the Ravens, but he’s averaging 287.8 yards per game with 14 touchdowns to seven picks. The ratio is 13 to 4 since throwing three picks against Baltimore in the opener. This one is at home where he has a 108.3 passer rating with 9 touchdowns and two picks (84.0, 5 TDs, 5 INTs on the road).
.
Sit:
Ryan Fitzpatrick vs. New York Jets: The Jets have allowed just 196.7 passing yards per game and four passing touchdowns. With the Jets coming off a bye for a key divisional match-up Rex Ryan will have some wrinkles to trip up Fitzpatrick.
.
Running Backs
Start:
Jackie Battle: While the Dolphins have been solid averaging just 109.9 rushing yards per game with three rushing total, Battle has been steady averaging 95.3 total yards the past three weeks. With so many RBBCs Battle is a solid bye week option because he gets the bulk of the carries both between the 20s and near the goal line.
.
Sit:
Peyton Hillis @ Houston: Even if he can shake the Madden Curse and play this week, he’s not a good play. The Texans are giving up just 97.4 yards per game.
.
Wide Receivers
Start:
Mario Manningham and Victor Cruz, WRs @ New England. The Patriots are just terrible against the pass. Last week they cut one cornerback and put another on on the Injured Reserve. Both Manningham and Cruz make strong plays this week, especially with Hakeem Nicks hurting.
.
Sit:
Greg Little @ Houston: He’s a borderline option to start with, but with Jonathan Joseph locking him down he’s not worth a look this week. The Texans are giving up just 189.4 passing yards per game.
.
Tight Ends
Start:
Dallas Clark: Clark bounced back with six catches for 77 yards last week. He was forgotten in Week 7 but for he also had six catches in Week 6 against the Bengals.
.
Sit:
Scott Chandler vs. New York Jets: I know Chandler caught a pair of touchdowns last week, but they were his only targets. Prior to last week he had 35 yards in his previous four games.
.
Defenses
Start:
Houston Texans @ Cleveland: The Texans rank third with just 286.8 total yards per game allowed and fifth with 18.1 ppg allowed. They also have 14 takeaways and 20 sacks. Cleveland ranks 26th in total offense at 305.7 ypg and tied for 28th with 15.3 ppg.
.
Sit:
Chicago Bears @ Philadelphia: The Eagles are running the ball at will. If you try to slow their rushing attack Vick will light you up in the passing game. I’d look elsewhere for a defense.

You meant “Sit” Chicago D, I’m sure
So you recall me asking you about Beanie Wells vs Hillis/Tolbert, etc. Yesterday, I noticed two things: (1) Mathews likely will not play this weekend, making Tolbert a PPR gold nugget and a near must-start (see: Week 1), and (2) Cleveland plays St. Louis in Week 10, meaning Hillis could end up being a sweet play next week if he is back to 100%.
So, I did what any self-respecting fantasy football manager would do: I burned my waiver on Eli Manning and dropped Reggie Wayne. What do you mean it’s not normal to carry 3 QBs in an 8-team league?
I just feel like Hillis has more upside come playoff-time than Wayne.
And as a side-note , for the purposes of self-loathing … at some point this season, I have dropped Peyton Manning, Dallas Clark, Austin Collie, and now Wayne.

Thanks for the catch Grant.
I did see that about Mathews. I took him out of my RB rankings (along with DMC). I think you made the right move. Man you rode the Colts train. That’s tough. You deserve a beer or two or six.

Through all the poor draft choices, injuries, etc., I’m still in 3rd place. I’ve had some luck for sure — prime example, I floated the Cincy D last week and got the late TD return, against a team that lost Mathews just before Brinkley scored the TD, and I won by 4 points. I’ll take that luck any week I can get it.

No doubt. Two weeks ago I lost a game by five yards. This week I won by four yards in a different league.

Who do u think I should start at QB? Eli or ben?

Good options. I like Eli better this week. The Patriots’ pass defense is horrible.

George, thanks for the question … I have Roethlisberger and Stafford, and I actually grabbed Manning off waivers this week. The max potential on Manning is just too much, probably somewhere in the neighborhood of what he did against Philly in Week 3 (250+ yards, 4 TDs). Couple that with the fact that Baltimore has only given up 5 passing TDs in 7 games, and the highest QB output they’ve allowed is Hasselbeck way back in Week 2 (358 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT – about 12 points). The more I think about it, the more I want no part of Roethlisberger this week.

With the quick passes the Steelers did vs. the Pats to serve as their run game I think Ben will be OK. They will disguise their formations and let Heath Miller exploit favorable match-ups. Mike Wallace is plain awesome. I def like Eli better, but I’m confident that Big Ben will have a nice game (280+, 2+ TDs).

Sounds like you want to put a little money behind that

Haha. Alexander Hamilton says he’ll throw for 280 plus two scores (rushing or passing).

It’s all about the Hamilton’s baby …
I guess we can work out a PayPal account transfer after Sunday, lol.

You think you’re something don’t you, what with your website and your superior football knowledge. I’m calling Ben right now to make sure he only throws backward screen passes in the red zone.

Haha. I’m going to pull an LT and send hookers to Ed Reed and Ray Lewis’ hotel rooms.

Take a chance on Eli and sit Drew Brees?

Both are great options. I like Brees better but hard to argue with either choice.

Hard to say without knowing the rest of your lineup. I like the second deal if you have the depth. The first one comes to Nicks for SJax and at this point that doesn’t look like too bad of a deal either.
