2011 NFL Rookie Watch: Mark Ingram & Julio Jones

Jan 7, 2011

Alabama running back Mark Ingram and wide receiver Julio Jones have declared for the upcoming 2011 NFL Draft.
Ingram, the 2009 Heisman Trophy winner , ran for 875 yards on 158 carries (5.5 ypc) with 13 touchdowns. He finishes his career with 3261 yards on 572 carries 5.7 ypc) with 42 touchdowns.
Jones caught 78 passes for 1133 yards and seven touchdowns. He added 135 yards and two rushing touchdowns on eight carries. He had 801 total yards and six touchdowns in his last six games.
Both Ingram and Jones could go in the late first or early second round. Ingram should make an immediate impact while Jones will likely need a season or two of seasoning.

I think both are great talents for the playoff quality teams to acquire. To me, Ingram is going to have a 10 year career and be a top 10 type back. Even above the 3rd and 13 type sentimental purposes, I’d love for him to go to the Giants to replace a too expensive Ahmad Bradshaw as Brandon Jacob’s sidekick. Jones is a bit riskier. He came to Alabama with next Andre Johnson type hype, and the numbers have never truly matched the production. But he has all the tools to succeed, and someone taking him after the mid first round could hit a home run. He’s much less of a sure thing than Ingram, but probably has more top end upside.

Totally. They shouldn’t have to worry about being the man right away and should make solid pros. I’d like to see Ingram be a Heisman winner that didn’t stink in the pros.
