2012 Fantasy Football RB Rankings – Week 15

Dec 10, 2012

.
With an exciting 14th week under our belts, here are the LestersLegends 2012 Week 15 fantasy football running back rankings.
.
1. Adrian Peterson, Minnesota Vikings
Adrian Peterson is on a tear. He’s averaging 157.3 yards over the past seven games. The St. Louis Rams have allowed a mediocre 110.3 rushing yards per game, but are one of four teams that have allowed 15 or more rushing touchdowns.
.
2. Marshawn Lynch, Seattle Seahawks
Beast Mode was in full force as Lynch dropped 128 yards and three touchdowns on the Arizona Cardinals on just 11 carries. Next up is the Buffalo Bills, who have allowed 134.5 yards per game and a league-high 18 rushing scores.
.
3. Arian Foster, Houston Texans
Foster should be in for a big day as the Indianapolis Colts have allowed 120.6 yards per game and a dozen rushing scores.
.
 4. Doug Martin, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Martin continues to dominate. He is averaging 124 total yards per game with 11 touchdowns. The New Orleans Saints rank last in the NFL with 152.4 rushing yards allowed per game. In the first meeting Martin has 122 total yards and a score.
.
5. Jamaal Charles, Kansas City Chiefs
Charles, like Peterson, is dominating despite inadequate quarterback play. He’s averaging 117.2 yards in his past five games. The Oakland Raiders have allowed 131.2 yards per game and 17 rushing scores.
.
6. Trent Richardson, Cleveland Browns
T-Rich is averaging 93.6 total yards with 10 touchdowns in 13 games. The Washington Redskins are decent against the run, but Richardson is a dual.
.
7. Alfred Morris, Washington Redskins
Morris is averaging 119.7 yards with two touchdowns in his last three games. He will likely be leaned on more heavily with Robert Griffin III likely out. The Browns have allowed 120.5 yards per game and 10 rushing scores.
.
8. Ray Rice, Baltimore Ravens
Rice got a little banged up (hip), but managed to deliver his first 100-yard game since Week 5. I’m more concerned about his matchup with the Denver Broncos than his hip.
.
9. Chris Johnson, Tennessee Titans
CJ has had two quiet games in a row, but one of them came against the Texans. He should rebound nicely against the New York Jets, who have allowed 136.5 yards per game and 13 rushing scores.
.
10. C.J. Spiller, Buffalo Bills
Spiller will have the backfield to his own, but his matchup with Seattle tempers the expectations.
.
11. David Wilson, New York Giants
With Ahmad Bradshaw out, Wilson gets his turn to shine. Atlanta ranks 22nd agaisnt the run with 127 yards per game allowed. They have also yielded 14 rushing scores.
.
12. Darren McFadden, Oakland Raiders
Run DMC had 64 total yards and a touchdown on Thursday Night Football against the Broncos. Thankfully, he had extra time to rest because he tweaked his ankle (big shock). If he’s good to go, he should fare well against the Chiefs. They have allowed 131.2 yards per game and nine rushing scores.
.
13. BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Cincinnati Bengals
The Law Firm is averaging 120.1 total yards in his past four games. The Philadelphia Eagles have allowed 119.3 yards per game.
.
14. Knowshon Moreno, Denver Broncos
Moreno is averaging 120.3 total yards in his three games since taking over the starting gig. The Ravens have allowed 129.3 yards per game and 12 rushing scores.
.
15. Matt Forte, Chicago Bears
Forte was more effective in the passing game in the first meeting with the Green Bay Packers. He should have more success running this time, while still doing some damage through the air. The Packers have allowed 116.7 yards per game and 11 rushing scores.
.
16. Stevan Ridley, New England Patriots
Ridley has a tough matchup against the 49ers, but Tom Brady and the passing game should open things up for him.
.
17. Frank Gore, San Francisco 49ers
The New England Patriots play the run well, but Gore has a good nose around the end zone. He can also do damage in the passing game.
.
18. Mikel Leshoure, Detroit Lions
Leshoure was quiet against the Packers despite having conditions that were more suited for the ground game. He should have no trouble getting his footing and delivering against the Cardinals. They have allowed 140.5 yards per game and nine rushing touchdowns.
.
19. Bryce Brown, Philadelphia Eagles
Brown took a backseat to Nick Foles last week because the Bucs are really good against the run and terrible against the pass. He’s worth considering because of what he did in Weeks 12 & 13, but there is obviously more risk associated with him against the Bengals after last week’s dud.
.
20. Steven Jackson, St. Louis Rams
Jackson is averaging 108.4 total yards in his past five games. The Vikings will try to control the clock with Adrian Peterson, which could limit Jackson’s touches.
.
21. DeMarco Murray, Dallas Cowboys
Murray has scored in both games since returning, but the Steelers will provide a stiff test. They are giving up just 93.2 yards per game.
.
22. Shonn Greene, New York Jets
Green has been sharing the load with Bilal Powell, but there has been enough to feed both backs. The Titans have allowed 127 yards per game and 12 rushing scores.
.
23. Reggie Bush, Miami Dolphins
Bush is quietly averaging 83 yards the past three games. The Jacksonville Jaguars have allowed 145.7 yards per game and a league-high 18 rushing scores.
.
24. Darren Sproles, New Orleans Saints
Sproles scored on the ground and through the air. He had 59 total yards and a touchdown in the first meeting with Tampa Bay. He should be active in this one too.
.
25. Ryan Mathews, San Diego Chargers
Mathews continues to get plenty of looks. He just hasn’t been very productive. That could change this week against the Carolina Panthers. They have allowed 121.6 yards per game and 11 rushing scores.

Alrighty. Semi-finals. Already finished in the money. Would love a shot at the championship. I normally wait til tuesday after MNF, but since it’s my matchup is over. On to next week…

    QB- Big Ben @ DAL
    RB- Rice home vs. DEN
    WR- Julio home vs. NYG
    TE- Graham home vs. TB
    Flex- Charles @ OAK
    Flex- Colston home vs. TB
    D/ST- Houston home vs. INDY
    K- Tucker home vs. DEN

Bench- GJennings, SRidley, MWallace, MJD and MOwens, Witten, Flacco, Bears D/ST…

    1) Not really loving my D’s matchup, short week but they are at home. I have no choice because the Bears play the Pack so thats a no-brainer sit for them.

    2) Kills me having to play Colston, and i know he had a decent game last time vs TB but, he has’nt done anything in like 6 weeks. I’d play Ridley over him but he’s got SF, so thats a no-no. Wallace has some upside IMO, but i’ll assume you’ll want me to roll Colston and hope he and Brees and Graham break out of this mini-slump they’re all in.

good luck tonight and thanks man….

    1) Agree. Short term solution could be Detroit.
    2) Colston is definitely a safer play. He should do well in that matchup. Heck, they made Foles look like Brees.

With Morris & Moreno is it best for me to flex DX or Shorts based off of match up rather than Bryce Brown on a wk 14 bust, or will Brown deliver down the line? Thanks!

Congrats on your victory. LOL@Detroit. I already put in for them, hafta drop Houston because espn has Bears D ‘undroppable’.

BTW Ridley has been the best play the past 3 weeks including last night vs. a good run D. If i somehow make it through this week to the championship, i like his next matchup vs. JVILLE next week. Not that i’m looking ahead, but i am lol.

My opponent has some tough matchups this week. Gonna be close. He beat me earlier this year by 12. Vengeance is mine lol.

Dr. Mel – I’d go with DX. Brown was a bust and Shorts is risky coming off the concussion.
Somewhere – Thanks. Haha. That’s OK you lost earlier. You’ll get the last laugh.

Pick 2 to start this week…Ridley, McFadden, B Brown, M Owens, B Powell

PPR League…2 WRs and Flex are R WHite C Johnson M Austin

QB Carson Palmer, Flacco, R Wilson

Also Jets D Vs Titans or Bengals vs Philly?

    Thanks!

Ridley, DMC, all three WRs Palmer, CIN D When you have Megatron, you need not use him as an option.

    December 11th, 2012 at 10:07 am #

Who would you start in these two spots:

RB2: (available players: Bryce Brown, Ridley, Sproles)
W/R: (available players: the 3 RB’s above plus Steve Smith and Anquan Boldin)

Right now I have Brown in as RB2 (he had a major dud this week, but I’m willing to give him another go so long as he starts), but I’m torn about the W/R, though I’m leaning towards either Ridley or Smith. I’ve never not started Ridley. But Steve Smith seems to have re-emerged alongside Cam Newton and could have great potential this week.

    I appreciate your input, thanks!

I’m moving Ridley up over Brown. Safer choice. You can’t have a dud in fantasy playoffs. Smith would be the W/R option for me.

Ryan, Just found out I’m the #1 seed going up against the #4 seed in the Championship playoffs. I was really hoping for a break! I know I need to rest Shorts until I see what his status is. I need to get a request in for a defense. I know you haven’t gotten there yet. I have the Pats & Browns. I thought about dropping the Browns for the Rams or Bengals. Most of the D’s are taken & I know I play against the Pack. Let me know what you think? Thanks!

Okay, let’s get ready to win this match. This is how I look so far:
    QB: Brady
    RB: Morris, Moreno
    WR: Cruz, Julio
    TE: Hern
    FL: DX
    D: Cincy
    K: Gost

Bench: Luck, Bryce Brown, Hilton, Shorts, Wit, Pats D
    Him
    QB: Brees
    RB: Law Firm, Bradshaw (?)
    WR: J. Jones, B. Marshall
    TE: Miller
    FL: J. Rodgers
    K: Graham
    D: Pack

Bench: Ballard, Reece, Lloyd, N. Washington, Gronk, & B. Walsh

Let me know if you think I should make any adjustments. Thanks again as always!

    December 11th, 2012 at 2:59 pm #

I’m not crazy about Brees, Law Firm & the Pack D now that Clay Matthews is due to be back. Since Brady plays at home it should be an easy win. Last night was a joke, I really thought Houston was going to put up a fight! DX should be a big play maker since Matthews is out & I don’t think SD has much of a run game without him. If my players turn up like they did last week, I’m not worried. Of course, must win for Giants & Falcons are starting to lose control, both have a lot to prove. Morris will be big whether RG3 goes at less than 100% or not. Do you agree?

Thanks Ryan. Looks like the only change he made so far was to sub Ballard for Rodgers. I would have played Ballard to if I was him. I just hope Breed doesn’t go off, he’s about due. Hopefully, Marshall is limited as well. Sorry to hear about your matches. Guess you didn’t have Hern, LOL! I’m here if you need some advice…just kidding!

    hey lester,

Thanks for the help on last week. This is how I look going into the playoffs any suggestions would be helpful.

    QB: Peyton Manning
    WR: Eric Decker
    WR: Hakeem Nicks
    RB: Knowshon Moreno
    RB: Montell Owens
    TE: Marcedes Lewis
    W/R: Danario Alexander
    K: David Akers
    DEF: Baltimore
    BN: Torrey Smith
    BN: Maurice Jones-Drew
    BN: James Jones

The pickup of Owens helped lots last week. Also losing Rob Gronkowski in week 12 I’ve been hurting in TE so any help would be nice. Thanks again!!!

    Need a little help here, have been liking your advice Lester;
Heres my lineup need help on flex I think and TE options. non ppr

    Brees
    Martin
    Gore?
    Flex – DX
    Julio Jones
    Welker?
Gates; Finley; Harbor also could grab scheffler off wire
    lions D

    Bench options
    Decker; Mereno; d williams; dwyer; 49ers D

  24. LestersLegends
    December 12th, 2012 at 10:27 am #

Little – I’d go Law Firm in flex and keep an eye on Shorts.
DC – I’d probably go with Gates. Gore is the safe play. moreno is tough to bench. I can see either option.

At rb, I have Jamaal Charles, Alfred Morris, C.J. Spiller, and Chris Johnson. I can play 3. I like Charles and Morris especially with the matchup’s and the way they have been playing. Johnson has a good matchup, but some guys on his o-line are nicked up. Spiller has a bad matchup, but F-Jax out, more touches. What do you think?

  27. LestersLegends
    December 12th, 2012 at 2:35 pm #

Kris – I like Bush there. Dez is banged up. I lean Cincy over STL.
Brandon – All top ten options. CJ Spiller would be my odd man out.

  28. Dr Mel
    December 12th, 2012 at 4:31 pm #

Ryan- Just a few final things before tomorrow. I did get Bush and the Cincy D. As you know, I always read Fabiano’s Start ‘em & Sit’em list & Rank’s Sleeper list that comes out every Wednesday. To no surprise Reggie & Cincy D were must starts. Moreno & DX were sleepers although they seem as must starts to me. Of those 3 do 2 have greater potential over the other? Need to know if I should sit DX or Moreno & start Bush? He also had 49ers D as a must sit. Should I still play Cincy over NE? Sometimes Thursday night games come back to bite me especially on defense. Also, if Dez doesn’t play should I play Wit over Hern? Can’t really rely on Ogletree. FYI, you can’t put the Lions as a sleeper D. Fabs has Miami D, while Rank & Akbar have Titans D. Those are more sleeper D’s this week, don’t you think? Thanks for all your help!

  29. Big Dawg
    December 12th, 2012 at 5:45 pm #

Houston or Detroit Defense? Lance Moore, James Jones, Heyward-Bey, Amendola and Gates, which two?

  30. LestersLegends
    December 12th, 2012 at 6:29 pm #

I’d go DX and Moreno over Bush. I’d play Cincy as well.I’d stick with Hernandez. He’s a monster. Detroit is owned in a third of yahoo and half of ESPN. That’s a sleeper in my book. Ha.

Big Dawg – Det, Moore and Jones

  31. Dr Mel
    December 12th, 2012 at 7:17 pm #

When you list a D as #1 how can you also call it a sleeper? Everyone is listing Lions as a must start #1,2 or 3 D this week. Anyways, they’ve been owned in my league all season along with Bears, Texans, Seahawks, Pack, & 49ers just to name a few. If someone didn’t drop NE, I wouldn’t have them. I still think I’m right, so Ha back. Thanks again for your advice, I need the win, big championship playoff round! Here’s hoping Brees & Marshall don’t kill me!

  32. LestersLegends

LOL, that works as long as I get the win. I think the computer has me projected at 102.18 & him at 79.89 in my NFL league. Of course, we know how accurate the computer can be! I think it has Moreno @ 17.2, Morris @ 9.2, Gost @ 2.0 & Cincy @ 4.0pts. I expect Moreno to be close, Morris to double especially if RG3 is out or not at 100%. Gost & Cincy to exceed. Brady is at 20 but should be better at home. Has everyone in end zone which should happen based on match ups & time of year. Law Firm will probably stick it to me tomorrow night. Just need Cincy to out score Pack D. Every little point makes a big difference…unreal, especially on defense.

    Hello Les,
I am in a PPR league and need 2RBS out of these C.Johnson, M.Forte, Alfred Morris, D.Murray and Moreno. I also need 2 of these WR which would you go with since I am going against the 1st place team and I lost Percy to Injury. I have D. Alexander, Josh Gordon, Greg Jennings, and Jordy Nelson. Thanks

  37. Rob
    December 13th, 2012 at 12:16 am #

Les your advice won me my game last week so I come to you again. You rock. Semi Finals wassup!

    My team:
    QB RGIII
    WR Calvin Johnson
    WR DX
    RB Jamaal Charles
    RB David Wilson***
    W/R: Steve Smith
    TE: Aaron Gonzalez
    K- Lawrence Tynes
    D- Miama

Bench: Lance Moore, MJD, Vick Ballard, Carson Palmer, Montell Owens Cecil Shorts

Biggest question is Ballard or Wilson or Owens in by RB2 slot?

Secondary question: You like my flex play? Tough choice with how Moore performed against TB last time but Smith seems a solid play.

Third question: IF RGIII starts I have to play him right? I mean palmer is cool and all but RGIII if starting should have my start correct?

Les, I just seen that 3 of the 4 so-called espn experts have the Bears D/ST v. GB ranked higher than the Lions D/ST v. ARIZ. Am i missing something? I know the Lions are’nt very good, but do they think ARIZ is going to put up more points than GB? Weather won’t be a factor at Chicago. I just checked. 38 and cloudy, no snow. What’s the deal? Who would you play this week? Your stud D or the flavor of the week?

  39. LestersLegends
    December 13th, 2012 at 8:34 am #

    Dr. Mel – Good luck.
Drew – I like CJ and Morris, DX and Gordon
Rob – Nice. If Bradshaw is out, Wilson all the way. He’s a gamble if Bradshaw does play, but given Ballard and Owen’s matchups I can see rolling the dice there. I do like your flex play. RG3 is another risk play. If he goes, you almost have to start him. Way more upside than Palmer.
Somewhere – Maybe Kurt Warner is back? I don’t get it. CHI isn’t forcing turnovers like before. I’m thinking DET.

Law Firm had a big game last night. Thank goodness the Cincy D finally came through & put me ahead! Can you trust Brown going forward? I knew he would be a tough play against a good Cincy D, but his ability to hang on to the ball is concerning.

    Agree. I couldn’t trust him.

Should I consider dropping Brown & maybe picking up another TE like Olsen until I see what Gronk is going to do? I don’t want to get hasty & drop Hern.

i would not drop ahern. they can cooexist. Olsen is a good option, but i wouldn’t use him over either patriots TE.

I should just stick with Hern & Witten? I know I have 2 of the best, be nice if I could flex a TE. Any WW options you would suggest, maybe get Shorts back?

Lester, can’t decide who is the last guy in here (ppr):

Leshoure, Ridley or D Wilson now that Bradshaw is out

Dr Mel – Shorts could be worth adding back
Paul – I would use Wilson

Hey Les, I Put MJD back in the IR slot on my bench, and had an opening, so i snagged Wilson. Anyway you’e playing him over say Colston or Julio this week? Obviously I HAVE to play Rice and Charles. PPR. I have this weird feeling Wilson has a nice game, but is it gonna be nicer than Julio or Colston enough to bench one? Colston is already on my shit list for not doing jack the past 6 weeks. But i’d hate to get ‘Bryce Browned’ on this call and have Wislon put up 7pts.

Thanks bro, and btw ‘Bryce Browned’ has been trademarked lol.

Who would you sit outta your Mancrush, Wilson, and Colston?

  63. LestersLegends
    December 14th, 2012 at 4:32 pm #

Haha. Love it. Not sitting Julio of course. I don’t know that I could sit Colston in PPR. I’m not much of a risk taker personally. I think your own level of risk taking comes into play.

I know, I know. In the end, it’s on me. I’ll probably play it safe with Julio and Colston…though Wilson is tempting.

Rested my guys during our playoff bye week, now as #1 seed up against the actual top scoring team in our league. Here’s the line-up:

    QB: Palmer
    RB: Martin, Forte, McFadden
    WR: Jones (ATL), Alexander
    TE: Witten
    DST: Seattle
    K: Graham

    Bench: QB-Romo, RB-Jackson, RB-Leshoure, WR-Jennings, TE-Olsen, DST-Denver

Critiques at all positions welcome – Palmer over Romo’s a “this week only” deal; after Martin, RB’s a total quandary; suspect Jones and Alexander are safer than Jennings at this point

I think you have it set up well.

Les, It’s my understanding that Wilson will also return kicks and punts as well. Would you say he touches the ball 20 times in this game? man, i’m having a hard time NOT putting him in for Colston. You have Wilson rated at 11. That would give me 3 top 11 backs this week. I gotta think Wilson is gonna get some passes thrown his way as well. I’m not trying to get you to say ‘start him’, i guess im trying to figure out why i should’nt start him. I’m thinking he has 100 total yards and a score, i’m not thinking Colston will. Ugh…

That’s a good point. Wilson should have 20 touches I think. If Colston didn’t have such a good matchup I’d be less reluctant to say roll with Wilson.

QB Big Ben @DAL………………………TBrady v. SF
    RB Rice v.DEN…………………………..Martin @ NO
    WR Julio v. NYG…………………………Welker v. SF
    TE Graham v. TB……………………….Gates v. CAR
    F Charles @ OAK……………………….BBrown v. CIN (played-7pts)
    F Colston v. TB or Wilson @ATL…….DAlexander v. CAR
    D/ST Lions @ ARIZ……………………Broncos @ BALT

My opponent changed his TE and both Flex plays to this.

Yeah so do i. I think Brown’s play on Thursday made him switch out some players. I know i’ll probably have a few cocktails at noon sunday, maybe a little hippie lettuce, and wind up playing Wilson on a gutcall, or i’ll sissy out and play it safe w/ Colston.

Thanks for the advice last week. All three of my teams made it in. Doesn’t get easier this week. Followed your advice on Roddy and paid off in two leagues. But today I’ve seen Roddy go from Prob, Out(for about an hour), to Questionable. Yahoo raters must be smokin the fruit salad this afternoon.
    All standard leagues.
Team CC#2- Roddy(if a go), DX, Rice, Hiltron? Pick 2, playing Colston regardless, benching Torrey
Already busted on Bryce; Wilson,Moreno,LaMichael, Leshore? Need 2, one is a flex and can take one from WR.
    Team JP#3- Marshall,Miles,Gordon,Hiltron,Dez(if he goes)? Pick 3
Already busted on Bryce; Forte,Moreno,Mattews,LaMichael? Pic 1
*Oppo. is rolling with Romo, dropped Dez, I scooped him up!
    Team CFRS#1- Garcon,Miles,Cobb,Roddy(if he goes)? Bench 1
    Benched Bryce; Wilson,Bush,CJ2K,T-Pain,JoyBell? Pick 2
*Looks like Painmaster is in all kinds of pain, and Wash. pretty good against the run.

Like Poppa Bull said to Baby Bull, “why run downhill to get a cow, when you can walk down and get’em all?”

    Here’s my lineup…but I have a few questions/concerns:

    Colin Kap QB
    Ray Rice RB
    Jamaal Charles RB
    Cruz WR
    D. Alexander WR
    Josh Morgan WR
    J.Witten TE
    Barth K
    Detroit D

Only questions are I have Mike Wallace riding the pine right now and am indecisive as heck on him…..And Moreno, CJ Spiller riding it for the RB’s….Would YOU make any changes to my lineup here!!!??? Thanks so much in advance for any ideas/advice!! Really appreciate all you do here

I’d play Wallace over Morgan. Hard to sit Spiller and Moreno, but you have such good backs. I like the choices you made.

Thanks so much for your advice man…really appreciate that. Last question….Would you ever start Rivers over Kapernick? Or…Gordon over DX? I am probably overthinking things here which can be a killer!!!

Yes on Rivers. No on Gordon.
