2012 Fantasy Football WR Rankings – Week 5

Oct 1, 2012

With an exciting fourth week under our belts, here are the LestersLegends 2012 Week 5 fantasy football wide receiver rankings.
1. Roddy White, Atlanta Falcons
OK, I was too quick to sing Julio’s praises. Roddy still has it in a big way. With Megatron on bye, Roddy is top dog this week against a Washington team that has allowed 326.3 ypg.
2. A.J. Green, Cincinnati Bengals
Green is averaging 103.3 ypg and 0.75 TDs per game. He faces a Miami team allowing 297.8 ypg.
3. Julio Jones, Atlanta Falcons
His hand may be worse that he’s been letting on, but I feel Washington will be the elixir.
4. Demaryius Thomas, Denver Broncos
Averaging 81.3 yards and 0.5 TDs per game. New England, who’s allowing 281.5 ypg will have trouble with his athleticism.
5. Percy Harvin, Minnesota Vikings
Percy has 353 total yards, but his only score came in the return game. That should change this week against Tennessee.
6. Jordy Nelson, Green Bay Packers
Jennings will likely miss this game, meaning Jordy will see plenty of looks against the Colts.
7. Victor Cruz, New York Giants
Averaging 97.0 yards and 0.5 TDs. He is going to be a handful for Cleveland, who has allowed 286.0 ypg and nine passing scores.
8. Wes Welker, New England Patriots
Averaging 122.0 yards over the past three games.
9. Larry Fitzgerald, Arizona Cardinals
Has 17 receptions for 178 yards and two TDs in his past two games. Faces St. Louis.
10. Dwayne Bowe, Kansas City Chiefs
Baltimore isn’t giving up passing scores, but they are allowing 295.8 ypg. Bowe is averaging 96.3 yards and a score in his past three games.
11. Torrey Smith, Baltimore Ravens
Smith is coming into his own. He has 224 yards and three touchdowns in his past two games.
12. Andre Johnson, Houston Texans
Life will be a lot easier without Revis.
13. Mike Wallace, Pittsburgh Steelers
He has scored each game. Philly will present a challenge though.
14. Brandon Marshall, Chicago Bears
He should have a big game against Jacksonville, but it depends on which Cutler shows up.
15.  Reggie Wayne, Indianapolis Colts
Getting a ton of targets. Green Bay has allowed eight passing scores.
16. Marques Colston, New Orleans Saints
Coming off a monster game against New Orleans. Brees will go to him often against San Diego.
17. Eric Decker, Denver Broncos
Decker is averaging 80.5 ypg and will see plenty of looks against the Pats.
18. Brandon Lloyd, New England Patriots
Finally found the end zone with New England. He’s averaging 71.8 ypg. Denver has allowed eight passing scores.
19. Steve Smith, Carolina Panthers
Has a tough draw against Seattle, but he’s averaging 87.0 ypg.
20. Malcom Floyd, San Diego Chargers
It should be a shootout against New Orleans and Floyd should be able to stretch the field.
21. Danny Amendola, St. Louis Rams
I like him even better in PPR leagues, but he should be solid against Arizona in standard leagues too.
22. Brian Hartline, Miami Dolphins
Had a ridiculous game last week. Consistency is an issue. He should produce against Cincinnati though.
23. Anquan Boldin, Baltimore Ravens
He has had a resurgence as Flacco has taken the next step. Solid option against the Chiefs.
24. Stevie Johnson, Buffalo Bills
Niners are tough but Stevie has a nose for the end zone.
25. DeSean Jackson, Philadelphia Eagles
Tough match-up against Pittsburgh, but Vick is leaning on him.
26.  Antonio Brown, Pittsburgh Steelers
Philly is tough, but Brown gets a lot of looks. He caught seven passes in each of his past two games.
27. James Jones, Green Bay Packers
Jennings will likely miss the game, which should allow Jones to have another strong performance against the Colts.
28. Jeremy Maclin, Philadelphia Eagles
I’m afraid to use him after last week, but he made it through the game and better days should lie ahead.
29. Michael Crabtree, San Francisco 49ers
He was quiet last week as the Niners thumped the Jets. Should see more action against Buffalo, who has allowed nine passing touchdowns.
30.  Pierre Garcon, Washington Redskins
He has been able to practive this week, and though he’s not 100 percent he is still a decent WR3 against the Falcons.
31. Domenik  Hixon, New York Giants
I would be surprised if Nicks plays this week, which opens things up for Hixon against the Browns.
32. Andre Roberts, Arizona Cardinals
Roberts has four TDs this year. Faces the Rams
33. Andrew Hawkins, Cincinnati Bengals
Quiet last week, but has been solid. Faces the Dolphins.
34. Leonard Hankerson, Washington Redskins
Averaging 60.3 ypg over the past three weeks. It should be a high-scoring affair against the Falcons.
35. Kendall Wright, Tennessee Titans
Has two scores in the past three games. Faces the Vikings.
36. Davone Bess, Miami Dolphins
Has 12 catches for 209 yards over the past two games. Faces the Bengals.
37. Donald Jones, Buffalo Bills
Has a tough draw against the Niners, but could see plenty of quick passes..
38. Nate Washington, Tennessee Titans
He’s hit or miss, but it wouldn’t be out of the question for Nate to bust a long one against Minnesota.
39. Sidney Rice, Seattle Seahawks
He has been a disappointment, but he could break out against Carolina.
40.  Harry Douglas, Atlanta Falcons
This one is more of a hunch, but against the Skins Douglas could sneak his way into the limelight.

A note on Hartline: Despite the 1/41 line in Week 3, he was targeted 9 times in that game. Now third in the league in targets with 48 (behind Cruz and Bowe).

How do you rank the defenses? I need to pick on up for my 12 team league & there is not much to choose from. I thought about going with Vikings, Bengals or Rams based of what I saw on RedZone. Any suggestions, or better choice? Thanks!

I do it on match-ups. Here are my rankings: http://lesterslegends.com/2012-fantasy-football-def-rankings-week-5/

I like the Rams and Vikings. Not sure if there are any other good ones available in your league.

Better long term add: d. hixon, Blackmon, hankerson, or kendall wright? Which order of free agent would u add ,..?.

I’m in a tough spot with my WR’s all have great potential & can have big games this week. Honestly, who do you think will have the BIGGEST game?

Victor Cruz, Torrey Smith, Julio Jones, Danny Amendola, Brian Hartline

Lance – I would say the opposite order that you have. starting with wright and working back. hixon is a short-term option, blackmon just hasn’t shown it and the jags offense is only suited for the preseason it seems (other than mojo)
Mel – i think julio will, but he’s been very disappointing.

With Calvin johnson and hakeem nicks out this week and I’m wondering who would be best to plug in between leonard hankerson and mario manningham?

    October 3rd, 2012 at 8:58 am #

I like hankerson, but both are decent fill-in plays.

Of my 3 above Cruz, Hartline, Smith, Jones or Amendola who would be my strongest starts? It seems like Amendola explodes at home & I miss his starts. I’m afraid not to play Hartline, because who else are the Dolphins going to throw to? Bush is my RB. ( roster: Cruz, Smith, Hartline)? Help!

I have a few receivers on the bye week. Who do you feel will have a better game Andre Roberts, Andrew Hawkins or Leonard Hankerson?

  12. LestersLegends
    October 3rd, 2012 at 11:09 am #

mel – i like julio, cruz, and smith, but all five are solid options.
Brandon – They are all lumped together at 33-35. I like roberts the best, but it isn’t by much.

Ok week 5 WR debacle including an extra challenge with bye’s:

PPR: Jeremy Macin, Nate Washington, DHB (Bye), Denarius Moore (bye), Nate Burelson (Bye). I saw your sleepers that Harry Douglas is available as well as Robert Meacham, Jerome Simpson, Santana Moss, Jon Baldwin, Michael Floyd, and Emmanual Sanders to name a few. Who do I drop and for whom!?

Also for PPR i was offered a trade: Doug Martin and Danny Amendola for Jimmy Graham. Thoughts?

    October 3rd, 2012 at 4:26 pm #

Forgot to add non-ppr: Washington, Maclin, Hartline currently starting. Hakeem Nicks (will he play?), Greg Little, Kendal Wright, Ramses Barden on bench.

    Thought? Thanks

Who would you start between Harvin, Amendola, Lloyd and Desean Jax? Pick 2. I’m leaning towards Harvin and Amendola. Also, do you think Ryan Williams is a good start at flex over the 2 WR left out?

  21. LestersLegends
    October 4th, 2012 at 5:40 am #

I like lloyd but amendola is safer. Williams isn’t a bad flex option right on par with your other guys. good options.

12 team league, 1 point PPR…I have Welker, Roddy White at WR and Colston at my Flex. My RBs at this point are Ryan Williams, Spiller and Tate. Should I try and trade one of my 3 good WRs for a solid RB. If so what caliber of RB am I looking at?

Stumped on WR’s this week for my flex spot. I have Roddy White, Torrey Smith starting. I have amendola and james jones on the bench. I kike the packers matchup and jones got 2 scores last week. Cards and Rams may be low scoring….who do you think is the better choice? Im a underdog by 10 points this week….

  24. LestersLegends
    October 4th, 2012 at 7:06 am #

tony – maybe see what the foster owner has and combo tate and colston for his #2 back.
Sean – amendola is safer play, and jones has more upside. the pack do spread the ball around a lot though.

    October 4th, 2012 at 8:38 am #

First I would like to thank you for the previous help.. Now I need more..:) I have wr and flex issues again. I need one flex and one wr. I have (RB) Ryan Williams, (WR) Amendola , (WR) Floyd (San Diego), (WR)Decker, (WR) Jeffery , (RB) Greene or (RB) Rodgers and this is a Non-PPR

  26. LestersLegends
    October 4th, 2012 at 9:16 am #

I like Decker and Floyd, though I could see Williams and/or Amendola in there as well.

Better pick up…James Jones or Andre Roberts?

  28. LestersLegends

    short-term jones. long term roberts.

  29. Clueless
    October 5th, 2012 at 9:48 am #

In a PPR I have 3 WR slots to fill.

P Harvin – takes 1 slot who should I fill in for the other 2 slots

    Antonio Brown
    James Jones

  30. LestersLegends
    October 5th, 2012 at 10:03 am #

I like Antonio Brown for slot two. I have Jones slightly higher than Hixon, but that one could go either way.

Lester… you mentioned you liked Lloyd in my flex spot. I just traded for MJD. I was thinking about putting MJD and Gore in at RB… leaving Ridley or Brandon Lloyd in flex? Thoughts?

  37. LestersLegends
    October 6th, 2012 at 10:07 am #

Ridley is probably the safer play.
