2012 Fantasy Football WR Rankings – Week 8

Oct 22, 2012

With an exciting seventh week under our belts, here are the LestersLegends 2012 Week 8 fantasy football wide receiver rankings.
1. Demaryius Thomas, Denver Broncos
Thomas is averaging 90.3 yards and 0.5 touchdowns this year. Peyton is on fire and the Saints can’t stop the pass.
2. Victor Cruz, New York Giants
Cruz has performed six salsa touchdown dances while averaging 87.0 yards the past four games. He has a good chance to dance again in Dallas.
3. Calvin Johnson, Detroit Lions
Megatron is a freak. Seattle is tough, but you can never count him out.
4. Brandon Marshall, Chicago Bears
Marshall is also on fire. Should exploit Carolina’s secondary.
5. Mike Wallace, Pittsburgh Steelers
Wallace is lacking in yardage (66.2 ypg), but has four touchdowns in six games. He should have a monster day against Washington’s league-worst pass defense (328.4 ypg).
6. Jordy Nelson, Green Bay Packers
Has five touchdowns while averaging 91.3 yards over the past four games. Jacksonville giving up 264.5 ypg through the air.
7. Reggie Wayne, Indianapolis Colts
Touchdowns are lacking at two, but he’s averaging 111.0 ypg.
8. Eric Decker, Denver Broncos
Coming on strong as Peyton is on fire. Decker is averaging 83.5 yards with three TDs in his past four games.
9. Percy Harvin, Minnesota Vikings
Ponder is struggling, but Tampa Bay could bring him back. Percy is an all-purpose freak that can score via pass, run, or return.
10. Marques Colston, New Orleans Saints
Colston is averaging 119.0 with five touchdowns in his past three games. He’ll be a handful for Denver.
11. Vincent Jackson, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
V-Jax is averaging 127.3 yards with four TDs in his past three games. The Vikings will have a hard time slowing him down.
12. Julio Jones, Atlanta Falcons
Julio hasn’t met his high expectations, but he’s still having a solid year. Philly will be a test.
13. Wes Welker, New England Patriots
Touchdowns belong to the tight ends, but he’s averaging 98.3 ypg.
14. Roddy White, Atlanta Falcons
Both Falcons receivers are big and physical enough to produce against Philly. Roddy is averaging 92.2 yards with four scores in six games.
15. Miles Austin, Dallas Cowboys
Has had a touchdown or 100+ yards in five of six games. The Boys will have to air it out against the Giants.
16. Antonio Brown, Pittsburgh Steelers
Brown bounced back to his normal 74+ yard game. He should be a solid option against the Skins’ league-worst pass defense.
17. Jeremy Maclin, Philadelphia Eagles
Had his best game of the year prior to the bye. He should be locked and loaded against Atlanta.
18. Dwayne Bowe, Kansas City Chiefs
I’m a little nervous for Bowe with Brady Quinn under center. Oakland has allowed eleven passing touchdowns and 254.7 yards per game though. Plus, he’s playing at home.
19. Larry Fitzgerald, Arizona Cardinals
Fitz struggled against the Vikings, but Skelton was still able to move the ball through the air. I expect more from Fitz against the Niners.
20. DeSean Jackson, Philadelphia Eagles
Jackson is averaging 77.5 yards per game and has the explosiveness to burn Atlanta’s secondary.
21. Dez Bryant, Dallas Cowboys
Dez disappeared against Carolina, but should be ready to roll against the Giants, who he had 85 yards against in the opener.
22. Hakeem Nicks, New York Giants
Nicks is slowly getting back to form. Still a risky WR2 against Dallas, but there is reward to go with that risk.
23. James Jones, Green Bay Packers
He didn’t score last week against the Rams, but caught six passes. I wouldn’t hesitate to use him against Jacksonville as long as Jennings is out.
24. Steve Smith, Carolina Panthers
Smith hasn’t scored a touchdown this year, but he’s averaging 78.5 ypg. Chicago presents a tough test.
25. Lance Moore, New Orleans Saints
Bounced back in a major way. If Graham misses another game, Moore should do more of the same against Denver.
26. Denarius Moore, Oakland Raiders
Averaging 64.6 yards with three touchdowns in five games. Takes on Kansas City, who has allowed 13 passing touchdowns.
27. Randall Cobb, Green Bay Packers
Cobb is averaging 91.0 yards and a touchdown over his past three games. Takes on Jacksonville.
28. Jeremy Kerley, New York Jets
He’s had at least 67 yards or a touchdown in five of the Jets’ seven games. The Dolphins are giving up 284.8 yards per game.
29. Josh Gordon, Cleveland Browns
Averaging 80.0 yards with four touchdowns in the past three games. The Chargers have allowed fourteen touchdown passes and 268.2 ypg.
30. Brandon Gibson, St. Louis Rams
The Patriots are terrible against the pass (290.0 ypg). Gibson has twelve catches over the past two games.
31. Kenny Britt, Tennessee Titans
Was held to 30 yards last week, but as he gets healthier he should be more productive. Faces the Colts, who have allowed 12 passing scores..
32. Darrius Heyward-Bey, Oakland Raiders
Caught four passes for 85 yards last week. Takes on the Chiefs.
33. Santana Moss, Washington Redskins
Averaging 64.3 yards and a touchdown in the past three games. Takes on the Steelers.
34. Mike Williams, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Came back to Earth last week, but is averaging 61.3 yards and 0.5 TDs this year. Takes on Vikings.
35. Brian Hartline, Miami Dolphins
He didn’t catch a pass last game, but coming out of the bye he should see his share of looks against the Jets.
36. Andre Roberts, Arizona Cardinals
Averaging 69.5 yards with three TDs in the past four games. Takes on Niners.
37. Malcom Floyd, San Diego Chargers
He’ll get to face Joe Haden and the Chargers are scaling back on their downfield shots. Not a good mix.
38. Kendall Wright, Tennessee Titans
Continues to see a ton of looks. Better option for PPR leagues.
39. Brandon Lloyd, New England Patriots
Lloyd is disappointing in New England. He’s always a deep threat, but he’s been held below 70 yards in five of seven games.
40. Chris Givens, St. Louis Rams
Averaging 65.3 yards over the past four games. Rams will have to air it out against the Pats.

    Sup Les,

I love how you have projections out before anyone, and i value your solid advice.

I need to start any 4 of these 6 players in a PPR…
    Ridley @ ST.LOUIS
    Charles vs. OAK
    Colston @ DEN
    Julio Jones @ PHILLY
    Wallace vs. WASH
    A.Brown vs. WASH

Obviously would like to sit a Steeler WR. (With 15 targets and a few drops last week i still think Wallace is ahead of Brown). So I’m leaning sitting Brown and the last spot i can’t decide between Ridley (timeshare) or Julio. Tell me which 2 you would sit.

TE question…If Graham is a go this week is it wise to start him over a healthy Witten? That’s a late game too. If i decide on Graham and he’s a late scratch somehow, I’d be screwed. Thoughts?

As always, thanks for the work you do for us ‘geeks’….Peace.

great lineup. i’d play it safe with witten. all good matchups. maybe sit brown and ridley. i could see julio too against philly. i just have man crush on him (not really).

No worries. I’m one of the geeks too.

    Hey Lester,

I have Vincent Jackson & Hakeem Nicks as starts for now with Stevie Johnson on a bye week. Do I start Heyward-Bey or Santana Moss? It’s probably a toss up, I guess. The other route I was thinking was picking up Devery Henderson depending on if Jimmy Graham plays or not?

    Thanks as always

Nico – you can’t include cruz in that. he’s an automatic. i like james to go with him.
Brandon – it is a toss-up. i have DHB higher but moss i probably safer.

Les, thanks for the input as usual.

I have 2 ridiculous D/ST’s. Houston on a bye and the Bears at home vs. CAR. (Which i assume is a good play this week, no? lol). Do you anticipate both of these D’s being steady and keepable plays throughout the year? Or should i maybe look to move one of them while they’re hot?

And yes a kicker question. Legatron home vs. NE or Janikowski @ KC? Thinking of rolling Greg the Leg. I’m 5-2 in a 12 teamer and tied with 4 other teams, hence why i would ask you about a freaking kicker. Thanks as always.

Somewhere – If you can move one for a good piece it may be worth checking out, but I’m guessing you won’t get good value.

Leg is at home technically, but they are playing in London. I still like him a little more than Seabass, but it’s close. If the weather is junk in London, maybe Seabass is your play.

Hey Les, i bet you didnt know this. Your mancrush Julio, who i am starting this week over Ridley, is a much better play AWAY.

    AT HOME- 9 catches, 107yds. 0TD’s
    ON THE ROAD- 21catches, 269yds. 4TD’s.

Was just checking out his stats…Interesting.

Hi. I’m in a bit of a tough spot as MJD and Demarco Murray are both injured. I have felix jones and hopefully I can get Rashad Jennings. Who would you say is a better start? And Torrey Smith has been mostly a bust this season cause of his QB’s erratic play. Would you trade him for Greg Jennings?

Do you think this is a fair trade, it got vetoed in my league..

Ponder, Spiller, Cobb for Eli and MJD

I was going to get Eil and MJD.

lester, dealing with bye week problems..

    need to start 3 WR
    my options are as follows:
    Maclin,Britt,Lloyd,Gordon, hartline, Gibson
I was planning on Maclin,Britt, and gordon, but what are your thoughts?

  14. JohnnyFootball
    October 24th, 2012 at 10:24 am #

    18-team Standard League

    QB – Luck
    WR1 – Nelson
    WR2 – ?
    RB – Jamal Charles
    Flex – Ryan Mathews
    Flex 2 – Rashad Jennings
    K – Shaun Suisham
    D – Vikings

Need to choose between: Sidney Rice, Brian Hartline or Brandon Gibson for WR2…thinking Gibson might blow it up, but Rice could have a decent day and score another TD?

Tony – I think you win the deal, but I don’t think it should be vetoed.
i’m with you. only lock to me is maclin.
Johnny – i’m with yyou on gibson

Colston over Moore that high with champ on colston?

  19. LestersLegends
    October 24th, 2012 at 1:05 pm #

Bailey isn’t a champ anymore. He’s still a top 10-15 corner, but he’s not a complete shutdown guy anymore.

Who has a better matchup to put in at flex this week, larod stephens howling, kenny britt, or kyle rudolph? Thanks

  21. Somewhere over Dwayne Bowe
    October 24th, 2012 at 8:25 pm #

J— Roll Colston. Moore is nowhere near Colston, and he is a ‘Jimmy Graham return to the lineup’ away from fantasy irrelevance.

Randy– Out of those 3 options i would roll with LSH, based on touches and possible goal line work. But don’t expect a repeat performance from last week vs. the stingy Niners D/ST.

    Les, how’d i do?

  22. LestersLegends
    October 24th, 2012 at 8:42 pm #

good. i like getting multiple opinions. agree though lsh is a little risky if powell is the hot hand and gets the touches.

Need 2 of these 3 for PPR:

Right now I have Lehsoure on the bench (I’m a pissed off Lions fan at the moment). Is that the right call? All three have their own question mark.

    Hey Lester

Got offered Dez and Sproles for CJ2K… My roster is

    Cruz/Lloyd/D Moore/Hartline/Amendola/Jennings
    Forte/Richardson/Morris/CJ2K/D Brown
    Vikings D

Not a bad deal. YOu likely aren’t using either of the RBs and it gives you WR upgrade.

It’s certainly possible but I wouldn’t do that. It’s freakin’ Megatron.

Alright Les, my buddy says rain and crap weather in London and NE should be up and Ridley gets a bunch of touches this week and to play him over Julio (despite those AWAY stats he has) because Philly has clamped down Wallace and Megatron the past 2 games and will look to clamp down Jones. Any chance he is right? I’m so on the fence now with this. I kinda gotta hit this flex spot since my opponent just put up 22ppr w/ Harvin Thursday.

i don’t think jennings is better option that those two. that’s a tough call. julio can be huge or miss. always tough to trust a pats back. since it’s ppr i’d still lean julio.
Cwell – i’d drop s. johnson for him.
