2012 Fantasy Football WR Rankings – Week 9

Oct 29, 2012

With an exciting eighth week under our belts, here are the LestersLegends 2012 Week 9 fantasy football wide receiver rankings.
1. Brandon Marshall, Chicago Bears
Marshall is averaging 115.3 yards with three touchdowns in the past four games. He is facing a Titans team that has allowed 282 yards per game and 17 passing scores.
2. Demaryius Thomas, Denver Broncos
Thomas is on fire with a pair of touchdowns and 114.3 yards per game over the past four. Faces the Bengals.
3. A.J. Green, Cincinnati Bengals
Coming off a bye and a quiet game, but has scored in six straight. Takes on Denver.
4. Victor Cruz, New York Giants
Was really quiet last week, but should bounce back against the Steelers.
5. Julio Jones, Atlanta Falcons
Rebounded in a big way against the Eagles. Next up is Dallas
6. Eric Decker, Denver Broncos
Has five touchdowns in the past four games. Peyton is locked in.
7. Reggie Wayne, Indianapolis Colts
Only has two touchdowns, but he’s averaging 108.1 yards per game. The Dolphins are giving up 281.0 yards per game.
8. Jordy Nelson, Green Bay Packers
With a week of rest he should be ready to roll against the Cardinals.
9. Percy Harvin, Minnesota Vikings
Seattle is tough, but Percy is a beast.
10. Miles Austin, Dallas Cowboys
Averaging 115.0 yards the past two games. It should be a shootout against Atlanta.
11. Vincent Jackson, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Quiet against the Vikings as it was the Doug Martin Show, but he should be trouble for Oakland’s secondary.
12. Calvin Johnson, Detroit Lions
Megatron isn’t himself as he’s playing hurt, but I’m expecting a much better game against Jacksonville.
13. Marques Colston, New Orleans Saints
Had a mediocre game against Denver, but should be solid against Philly.
14. Roddy White, Atlanta Falcons
Only averaging 59.3. yards the past three games, but could easily explode against Dallas.
15. Mike Wallace, Pittsburgh Steelers
Hasn’t scored in two games, but could slip past the Giants, who gave up a ton of yards to Dallas last week.
16. Dez Bryant, Dallas Cowboys
Dez nearly made a great grab, but still finished with a solid 110 yards against the Giants. Will be tough on Atlanta.
17. Jeremy Maclin, Philadelphia Eagles
At the mercy of Vick’s play, but Maclin and DeSean Jackson should be solid against a brutal Saints defense.
18. DeSean Jackson, Philadelphia Eagles
See Maclin, Jeremy.
19. Larry Fitzgerald, Arizona Cardinals
The Packers can be passed on. Fitz is as difficult a cover as there is. The key will be if they can have time.
20. Dwayne Bowe, Kansas City Chiefs
San Diego has allowed 14 touchdown passes and 246.6 passing yards per game. Bowe should be better.
21. Andre Johnson, Houston Texans
The ground game will do most of the damage, but AJ could torment the Bills as well.
22. Steve Smith, Carolina Panthers
Skins are giving up 314.3 yards per game. Look for a big day from Smith.
23. James Jones, Green Bay Packers
Hasn’t scored the past two games, but remains a threat at the level Rodgers is playing at.
24. Randall Cobb, Green Bay Packers
Has four touchdowns in the past four games.
25. Denarius Moore, Oakland Raiders
Has four touchdowns in the past five games. Tampa is giving up 309.6 ypg.
26. Hakeem Nicks, New York Giants
He still hasn’t shown the explosion so I’ll be cautious against Pittsburgh.
27. Antonio Brown, Pittsburgh Steelers
Only has one touchdown and the once steady Brown has two duds in his past three games. The Giants present a quality match-up though.
28. Torrey Smith, Baltimore Ravens
Quiet the past few weeks and has Joe Haden looming. WR3 at best.
29. Lance Moore, New Orleans Saints
Quiet as Jimmy Graham returned. Still a threat with Brees against Philly.
30. Darrius Heyward-Bey, Oakland Raiders
Scored last week, but it was his only catch. Should do better against the Bucs.
31. Stevie Johnson, Buffalo Bills
Tough match-up with Houston makes him a WR3 option this week.
32. Santana Moss, Washington Redskins
Has four touchdowns in the past four games. Takes on Carolina
33. Mike Williams, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Has 100 yards or a touchdown in three of the past four games. Takes on Oakland.
34. Malcom Floyd, San Diego Chargers
He’s not scoring, but that could change against Kansas City, who has allowed 15 passing touchdowns.
35. Anquan Boldin, Baltimore Ravens
Should bounce back from his 24 yard game before the bye. He averaged 103.7 in the three games prior. Faces Browns.
36. Josh Gordon, Cleveland Browns
Averaging 71.5 yards and a touchdown in the past four games. Faces the Ravens.
37.  Titus Young, Detroit Lions
Has 181 yards and two TDs the past two weeks. Should be solid against Jacksonville.
38.  Cecil Shorts, Jacksonville Jaguars
Has12 catches, 22 targets, 195 yards, and a touchdown over the past two games. Faces Detroit.

39. Andre Roberts, Arizona Cardinals
Borderline WR3 against the Pack.
40. Brian Hartline, Miami Dolphins
Didn’t have a great game against the Jets, but he was targeted six times. He should continue to rebound against Indianapolis.
41. Kendall Wright, Tennessee Titans
Scored last week and continues to see a lot of targets. Tough draw against Chicago.
42. Kenny Britt, Tennessee Titans
The Bears are a tough match-up, but Britt is a threat.

Hey I’m in a 6 team league and my wideouts are as follows:
Julio Jones, Reggie Wayne, Eric Decker, Dez Bryant, Antonio brown and Torrey Smith. I was thinking of dropping Brown for Titus Young. It wouldn’t really hurt me because everyone else has good receivers and Brown has really underperformed. Is there any reason for me not to make this move?

not sure you’d start either of them. I wouldn’t make that move but it’s not a bad one.

Who should i start at wr2 decker or harvin?

  4. LestersLegends

can’t go wrong with either. i like decker a little more mainly because of QB play.

  5. Somewhere over Dwayne Bowe

Sup Les, tough choices this week.

I have 4 spots for RB, WR, and 2 Flex spots. Obviously i’m starting Rice at RB. That leaves Julio home v. DAL, Colston home v. PHIL, Wallace @ NYG to put in the WR spot. Whichever 2 i don’t start at WR i can put in the 2 Flex spots, plus RJennings home v. DET thrown into the equation as well. Also throw into the equation rolling 2 TE’s as a possibility i guess, since i have Graham and Witten.
This is how i have it now, but i’ll bet i’ll make a wrong play here somehow.
    QB- Big Ben
    RB- Rice
    WR- Colston
    TE- Graham
    F- Julio
    F- Wallace
Nervous about playing Jones at home. Stats don’t lie and he really does nothing at home, thus far. I think Jennings is safer dice roll. And it’s hard to sit Witten after last week’s preformance. I almost wanna sit Graham, and thats nuts.

D/ST Chicago @ TENN, or Houston home v. BUFF?

Thanks as always. Who would you roll this week. I put up 150+ last week and still lost by 20. Need a win bro.

If I were to swap out Julio it would be for witten. you know you’re getting 80 yards almost guaranteed now.

    I’d go with Chicago defense.

  7. Somewhere over Dwayne Bowe
    October 30th, 2012 at 11:56 am #

So no love for Charles or Jennings this week? JMail had like 23pts vs. SD in week 4. Though for whatever reason Crennel seems to regularly not use him. Would you play either one of them over my WR’s?

If i were to put Witten in a flex, is it over Wallace? Colston?

  8. LestersLegends
    October 30th, 2012 at 1:07 pm #

I didn’t see Charles as an option. Jennings isn’t bad. You just have a lot of good options. Of the three WRs I’d sit wallace first.

  9. Somewhere over Dwayne Bowe
    October 30th, 2012 at 2:46 pm #

    QB- Big Ben
    RB- Rice
    WR- Colston
    TE- Graham
    F- Julio
    F- Witten
    D/ST- Chicago

    Charles, Wallace, RJennings

  10. Somewhere over Dwayne Bowe
    October 30th, 2012 at 3:02 pm #

My buddy said start Charles in one flex and start Witten at TE over Graham.

I have Nate Washington in a PPR and Standard league. The last two weeks I have played Josh Gordon over Washington in my standard league and have left points on the bench. Looks like most folks like Brian Hartline over Washington this week. Do I play Hartline over Washington in my PPR?

And for Standard league please pick 3: Nicks, Maclin, Gordon, Nate Washington, Kendall Wright, Brian Hartline, Andre Roberts.

I see that you don’t have Titus Young listed. He’s coming off of two solid games and seems to be peforming well. And he’s in the second largest pass volume offense in the league. Do you not trust him yet or is there something else there?

Rank & Fabs on NFL Fantasy were saying to pick up Cecil Shorts. I saw your article on Torrey Smith & was thinking about dropping him since he hasn’t produced for me lately. I have Cruz, Julio, James Jones, Amendola & Josh Gordon, thoughts?

  14. LestersLegends
    October 30th, 2012 at 6:43 pm #

somewhere – the way charles is not being used, i would probably keep the lineup the same way.
JC – ppr i probably stick with hartline. it’s close. nicks, maclin, gordon
GRO – Kinda. i suppose he should be about 37.
Dr Mel – i’d try to trade torrey and not drop him.

    shayne – i’d sit titus.
Dr. Mel – what do you need most. maybe package him and something to upgrade a position.

Health Miller is on waiver wire need a back up to Witten or another Defense would be handy. A lot of good Defenses being & TE’s being benched.

I need to cover gore, gronk and welker’s bye week. WR: cecil shorts or brandon lafell. RB: daniel thomas, LSH or andre brown TE: dennis pitta or scott chandler. Thanks

I hear that! I have britt at flex but he hasn’t done anything since his thurs.night td. Would you start andre brown or lafell over him at flex?

  24. LestersLegends

I don’t think I would. Maybe LaFell but brown isn’t getting enough touches

    D. Moore.thats the thing is it even worth dropping gibson or james jones or even d bey for d. Moore or santana or nate washington

  26. LestersLegends
    October 31st, 2012 at 11:35 am #

I’d grab d. moore for gibson. Amendola will be back and his numbers will drop.

I’d say shorts. They all fall into the same tier. Kind of a gut thing.

Wk 9 matchup too close for comfort…know all options prob pretty solid, but digging deep for +++pts!
    Best bets???
    RBs: RRice, McGahee, RJennings, DBrown
WRs: Cruz, VJax, Decker, James Jones
    (2RB – 2WR – 1RB/WR flex / standard scoring)

  30. LestersLegends

    rice, mcgahee, cruz, decker, vjax

Is dexter mccluster a flex worthy sleeper this week? He’s coming off 8 targets and its pretty slim pickings this week for bye week fill-ins

  32. Dave
    November 1st, 2012 at 6:55 am #

Josh Gordon, Cecil shorts, Titus young, Alex green and Daniel Thomas… Need 1 WR, 1 RB and a flex. Thoughts?

  33. LestersLegends

jones – i’d say he is.
Dave – green, gordon and young

  36. jones

Or I could also drop daniel thomas

  37. LestersLegends
    November 1st, 2012 at 8:15 am #

jones – i’d rather use LSH. i wouldn’t drop any of those guys for mccluster
Dave – yes provided mendy doesn’t play

  38. jones
    November 1st, 2012 at 8:21 am #

Would you drop cecil shorts? I only want mccluster for this week

  39. LestersLegends
    November 1st, 2012 at 8:41 am #

I wouldn’t use him over your options, but if you want to that’s fine. I’d drop LaFell because he’s dealing with a concussion.

  40. jones
    November 1st, 2012 at 9:13 am #

Since mccluster can be plugged in at WR or RB I figure using him at RB is my best option to make up for Gore and Ridley bye weeks.

  41. Grant

Interesting dilemma I’ve got, and could really use your help. I am already stuck in a “must-win” situation, as I have been chosen by Shiva to be the unlucky team in my league this year.

I’ve got to choose between Hartline, McCluster, and McGahee for the flex spot in a PPR league. McGahee has a great matchup, and I do think he will see the ball a lot. Only concern is that Ronnie Hillman carried the ball 14 times last week. I believe Hartline is due for a rebound. And McCluster … well, he’s hit-or-miss, but seems to be trending upward.

  42. LestersLegends
    November 1st, 2012 at 2:53 pm #

jones – if you don’t have any other rbs i suppose that would work. though i thought you were using him at flex
Grant – I think I play my best player and rely on mcgahee.

  43. Grant
    November 1st, 2012 at 3:26 pm #

    McGahee it is then. Thanks!

I swear, this is the best 3-5 team a guy could possibly put together. I have played a team in their best week 4 out of the 8 matchups.

    QB – P. Manning
    RB – Richardson
    WR – A.J. Green
    WR – Nicks
    WR – Fitzgerald
    TE – Gronkowski
    W/R – McGahee (Amendola/Hartline/Spiller)

  44. LestersLegends
    November 1st, 2012 at 3:28 pm #

That is a really strong team. It’s too bad Nicks and Fitz haven’t given you what you were expecting.

  45. JoeS
    November 1st, 2012 at 5:08 pm #

Meacham and Royal ruled out tonight. Floyd value go up? Worth plugging in flex instead of Antonio or Cobb?

  46. LestersLegends
    November 1st, 2012 at 5:23 pm #

Hard to say. Are they actually going to move the ball. He may be worth using over Antonio if it’s not a PPR league.

  47. Jimmer
    November 2nd, 2012 at 10:40 am #

    12 man flex ppr
Any chance I should start Sydney Rice instead of Torrey Smith as my flex? Torrey is prob safer play but how much safer? Is there a revenge factor since the Vikes let Rice walk. Seems like guys usually get a TD on their old teams (see Meachem). Thoughts and any ridicule welcome.

  48. LestersLegends
    November 2nd, 2012 at 12:15 pm #

The way Smith has played lately (34.3 yards and 0.33 TDs average over the past three games) it wouldn’t be a stretch. Rice has averaged 56.0 yards and 0.67 TDs in his past three games.

    November 4th, 2012 at 1:19 am #

Who is a better flex option for PPR Gordon, James Jones thinking Julio is my weakest this week since he’s on everyone’s must sit list .

  51. LestersLegends
    November 4th, 2012 at 8:22 am #

aaron – he will get better qb play. that’s a toss up. Maclin is probably the smarter play
Dr Mel – I’d say James Jones.
