2013 Get ‘em or Don’t Sweat ‘em – NFL Week 13

Nov 25, 2013

Tavon Austin TD
.
There were some unusual heroes this week. There always are. Let’s take a look at them and see if they are worthy of your fantasy rosters.
.
Ryan Fitzpatrick, QB, Tennessee Titans
Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for 320 yards and a pair of touchdowns against the Oakland Raiders. He also ran for 26 yards. I’d hesitate to add him.
Ruling: Don’t Sweat ‘em.
.
Alex Smith, QB, Kansas City Chiefs
Alex Smith threw for 294 yards and three touchdown against the San Diego Chargers. There are plenty of better quarterback options. The Kansas City Chiefs don’t typically air it out as much.
Ruling: Don’t Sweat ‘em.
.
Ryan Tannehill, QB, Miami Dolphins
Ryan Tannehill threw for 310 yards and a touchdown against the Carolina Panthers. He added 36 rushing yards. Like Smith, there are too many better options available.
Ruling: Don’t Sweat ‘em.
.
Benny Cunningham, RB, St. Louis Rams
Benny Cunningham took over for Zac Stacy (concussion). He ran for 109 yards and a touchdown against the Chicago Bears. He’s worth a speculative add in case Stacy doesn’t pass concussion protocol.
Ruling: Get ‘em.
.
Dennis Johnson, RB, Houston Texans
Dennis Johnson ran for 74 yards against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He also caught a pair of passes for 13 yards. Ben Tate didn’t look good in this. Johnson is worth adding in case the Houston Texans turn to him again.
Ruling: Get ‘em.
.
Tavon Austin, WR, St. Louis Rams
Tavon Austin had a 65-yard touchdown run against the Bears. He also caught two of five targets for 39 yards. He’s dynamic, but I’m not sure he’s reliable down the stretch for fantasy purposes.
Ruling: Don’t Sweat ‘em.
.
Donnie Avery, WR, Kansas City Chiefs
Donnie Avery caught four of five targets for 91 yards and a touchdown against the Chargers. He’s too inconsistent.
Ruling: Don’t Sweat ‘em.
.
Nate Burleson, WR, Detroit Lions
Nate Burleson caught seven of 10 targets for 77 yards and a touchdown against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He’s a nice secondary option for the Detroit Lions and a real asset for fantasy teams, particularly in points-per-reception leagues.
Ruling: Get ‘em.
.
Justin Hunter, WR, Tennessee Titans
Justin Hunter caught all six of his targets for 109 yards and a touchdown. He’s not consistent enough to take a chance on this late in the season.
Ruling: Don’t Sweat ‘em.
.
Jacoby Jones, WR, Baltimore Ravens
Jacoby Jones caught four of six targets for 103 yards and a touchdown against the New  York Jets. He’s not a consistent fantasy threat.
Ruling: Don’t Sweat ‘em.
.
Tiquan Underwood, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tiquan Underwood caught three of five targets for 108 yards and two touchdowns against the Detroit Lions. He’s has a decent rapport with Mike Glennon. Underwood is worth a spot on your roster.
Ruling: Get ‘em.
.
Ladarius Green, TE, San Diego Chargers
Ladarius Green caught three of five targets for 80 yards and a touchdown against the Kansas City Chiefs. He had 81 yards last week and is coming on. I’d still hesitate to add him.
Ruling: Don’t Sweat ‘em.

LesterLegends – Thanks for the insights. Got Waiver Wire question at RB for you.

At RB I have MJD and D. Brown on my bench (AP and R. Rice starting). Would you consider adding any of the RBs listed above and drop a bench guy(s)?

    I wouldn’t. Short-term solutions at best.
