2013 Get ‘em or Don’t Sweat ‘em – NFL Week 16

Dec 16, 2013

.
There were some unusual heroes this week. There always are. Let’s take a look at them and see if they are worthy of your fantasy rosters. Keep in mind that this time of year it’s pretty much injuries that dictate roster moves.
.
Matt Cassel, QB, Minnesota Vikings
Matt Cassel threw for 382 yards and a pair of touchdowns against the Philadelphia Eagles. He added 19 yards and a score on the ground. He’s not a recommended play this week against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Ruling: Don’t Sweat ‘em.
.
Kirk Cousins, QB, Washington Redskins
Kirk Cousins threw for 381 yards and three touchdowns against the Atlanta Falcons. With a matchup against a terrible Dallas Cowboys team this week, he’s worth a look.
Ruling: Get ‘em.
.
Ryan Fitzpatrick, QB, Tennessee Titans
Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for 402 yards and four touchdowns against the Arizona Cardinals. He also ran for 22 yards. He faces the Jacksonville Jaguars this week, but I like other options better.
Ruling: Don’t Sweat ‘em.
.
Matt Flynn, QB, Green Bay Packers
Matt Flynn threw for 299 yards and four touchdowns against the Dallas Cowboys. The Boys have a terrible pass defense. As the Green Bay Packers remain in the playoff hunt, the odds that Aaron Rodgers returns is greater. I don’t love Flynn against the Pittsburgh Steelers this week.
Ruling: Don’t Sweat ‘em.
.
Alex Smith, QB, Kansas City Chiefs
Alex Smith threw for 287 yards and five touchdowns against the Oakland Raiders. He also ran for 17 yards. He has 14 touchdown passes in his past five games. He’s a decent option this week against the Indianapolis Colts.
Ruling: Get ‘em.
.
Ryan Tannehill, QB, Miami Dolphins
Ryan Tannehill threw for 312 yards and three touchdowns against the New England Patriots. He has eight touchdown passes in his past three games. If you’re having quarterback issues, Tannehill is a solid add for this week’s game against the Buffalo Bills.
Ruling: Get ‘em.
.
Matt Asiata, RB, Minnesota Vikings
Matt Asiata ran for 51 yards and three touchdowns against the Eagles. He added three catches for 15 yards. Asiata averaged just 1.7 yards per carry. Adrian Peterson and/or Toby Gerhart could return this week, which would end Asiata’s value. Even if he gets the start, he’s not a strong play against the Bengals.
Ruling: Don’t Sweat ‘em.
.
Edwin Baker, RB, Cleveland Browns
Edwin Baker ran for 38 yards and a touchdown against the Chicago Bears. He added four receptions for 46 yards. He’s only worth a look if you have no other options.
Ruling: Don’t Sweat ‘em.
.
Jordan Todman, RB, Jacksonville Jaguars
Jordan Todman ran for 109 yards against the Buffalo Bills. He also caught four passes for 44 yards. If you’re looking for a running back, Todman is a solid add in case Maurice Jones-Drew remains out.
Ruling: Don’t Sweat ‘em.
.
Doug Baldwin, WR, Seattle Seahawks
Doug Baldwin caught six or seven targets for 71 yards and a touchdown against the New York Giants. Baldwin has scored in three of the past four games and has averaged 66.3 yards and 0.7 touchdowns in his past six. He’s worth an add for this week’s matchup with the Arizona Cardinals.
Ruling: Get ‘em.
.
Andre Caldwell, WR, Denver Broncos
Andre Caldwell picked up the slack in Wes Welker’s absence (concussion) with six receptions on 10 targets for 59 yards and a pair of touchdowns against the San Diego Chargers. Considering it was Welker’s second concussion so it’s possible that he’ll miss another game. Even if he does miss again, it’s unlikely that Demaryius Thomas, Eric Decker and Julius Thomas take a back seat to Caldwell again.
Ruling: Don’t Sweat ‘em.
.
Andre Holmes, WR, Oakland Raiders
Andre Holmes caught four of seven targets for 58 yards and a touchdown against the Kansas City Chiefs. He’s averaging 85.7 yards in his past three games. If you’re looking for a sleeper option at wide receiver this week against the San Diego Chargers, Holmes isn’t a bad choice.
Ruling: Get ‘em.
.
Santana Moss, WR, Washington Redskins
Santana Moss caught eight of nine targets for 64 yards and a touchdown against Atlanta. I don’t trust him at this stage of his career.
Ruling: Don’t Sweat ‘em.
.
Michael Preston, WR, Tennessee Titans
Michael Preston caught three of five targets for 27 yards and two touchdowns against the Cardinals. He hasn’t done much to merit an add.
Ruling: Don’t Sweat ‘em.

.
Aldrick Robinson, WR, Washington Redskins
Aldrick Robinson caught four of seven targets for 99 yards against the Falcons. He’s a sleeper option this week against the Boys, but I’d probably do a different direction. I do like him better than Moss though.
Ruling: Don’t Sweat ‘em.
.
Jarius Wright, WR, Minnesota Vikings
Jarius Wright caught four of five targets for 95 yards against Philadelphia. The Bengals are a much tougher opponent this week.
Ruling: Don’t Sweat ‘em.
.
Jeff Cumberland, TE, New York Jets
Jeff Cumberland caught three of four targets for 50 yards and a touchdown. He’s too risky to rely on in Week 16.
Ruling: Don’t Sweat ‘em.
.
Marcedes Lewis, TE, Jacksonville Jaguars
Marcedes Lewis caught four of seven targets for 54 yards and a touchdown. It’s his third straight game with a score. He’s a desperation play this week against the Titans, but one that I’d avoid.
Ruling: Don’t Sweat ‘em.

Toss up. I like Stafford a little better, but have no problem rolling with Foles.
