2013 Fantasy Football RB Rankings – Week 3

Sep 17, 2013

.
With another exciting week of football under our belts, here are the Lester’s Legends 2013 Week 3 fantasy football running back rankings.
.
1. Marshawn Lynch, Seattle Seahawks
Marshawn Lynch has 187 total yards and three touchdowns after his dominating performance against a tough San Francisco 49ers team. He faces the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars, who have allowed 347 yards and two touchdowns on the ground in two games.
.
2. Adrian Peterson, Minnesota Vikings
Adrian Peterson has 218 total yards and three touchdowns through two games. The Minnesota Vikings offense has struggled against Matthew Stafford and Jay Culter. This week they draw the Cleveland Browns and Brandon Weeden. The Vikings don’t have to contend with an explosive offense, which should lead to a heavy workload for All Day.
.
3. LeSean MccCoy, Philadelphia Eagles
LeSean McCoy has 350 total yards in two games. Shady has just one touchdown, but that can be forgiven when you average 175 total yards per game. Kansas City has been stout against the run, giving up 54 yards per game at 2.8 yards per carry, but the Philadelphia Eagles bring a much more explosive run game.
.
4. Jamaal Charles, Kansas City Chiefs
Jamaal Charles has 203 total yards and a pair of touchdowns in two games. The Philadelphia Eagles have struggled defensively giving up 200 yards on the ground and 721 yards through the air. The dual-threat Charles should have a big day.
.
5. Doug Martin, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Doug Martin has 209 yards and a touchdown through two games. He has just two receptions on the year. He should improve in that department. He’s facing the New England Patriots, who have allowed 265 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
.
6. Frank Gore, San Francisco 49ers
Frank Gore has just 95 yards and a touchdown through two games, but has a golden opportunity to get going. He’s facing the Indianapolis Colts, who have allowed 272 yards and three touchdowns in two games. After getting embarrassed by the Seattle Seahawks, look for the Niners to make a statement at home against the Colts.
.
7. Matt Forte, Chicago Bears
Matt Forte has 252 total yards and a touchdown through two games. The Chicago Bears face a tough Pittsburgh Steelers defense, but the dual threat should be able to move the chains.
.
8. Arian Foster, Houston Texans
Arian Foster has 175 total yards and a touchdown through two games. He continues to see a fair share of touches despite the presence of Ben Tate. He has a tough draw against the Baltimore Ravens, but he is more than capable of putting up solid numbers.
.
9. Alfred Morris, Washington Redskins
Alfred Morris has 174 total yards and a touchdown through two games. The offense just hasn’t clicked. He should get going against a Detroit Lions team that has allowed 192 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.
.
10. Chris Johnson, Tennessee Titans
Chris Johnson has 166 rushing yards, but has not reached the end zone yet. He’s facing the San Diego Chargers, who have allowed 209 yards and a score on the ground.
.
11. Knowshon Moreno, Denver Broncos
Knowshon Moreno has 172 total yards and a pair of touchdowns. Next up is the Oakland Raiders at home. The passing game causes so much fear, Moreno hardly has to break a sweat.
.
12. DeMarco Murray, Dallas Cowboys
DeMarco Murray has 199 total yards through two games. He’s facing a tough St. Louis Rams run defense that has allowed 61 yards per game at 2.9 yards per carry. Murray is playing at home where he has averaged 104 total yards and scored five career touchdowns. On the road he has scored just one touchdown and averaged 70.1 total yards.
.
13. C.J. Spiller, Buffalo Bills
C.J. Spiller has 184 total yards through two games. The New York Jets have allowed just 119 yards in two games at 2.4 yards per carry.
.
14. Darren McFadden, Oakland Raiders
Darren McFadden has 223 total yards and a touchdown through two games. The Denver Broncos have allowed just 81 rushing yards through two games. He ability to catch the ball out of the backfield will add to his numbers.
.
15. Bernard Pierce, Baltimore Ravens
Ray Rice (hip) is a question mark this week. If he can’t go, Pierce will get the nod against the Houston Texans. They have allowed 199 yards on the ground in two games.
.
16. DeAngelo Williams, Carolina Panthers
DeAngelo Williams has 185 total yards through two games. He’s facing the New York Giants, who have allowed 198 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
.
17. Joique Bell, Detroit Lions
Joique Bell will get a bump if Reggie Bush (knee) is unable to go. Either way, Bell should see his share of touches against the Washington Redskins, who have allowed 402 yard and three touchdowns on the ground in two games.
.
18. Rashard Mendenhall, Arizona Cardinals
Rashard Mendenhall has 158 total yards and a touchdown through two games. He’s facing the New Orleans Saints, who have allowed 248 yards on the ground.
.
19. Daryl Richardson, St. Louis Rams
Daryl Richardson has 176 total yards through two games. He’s facing the Dallas Cowboys, who have allowed 82 yards per game at 4.2 yards per carry. His ability to catch the ball out of the backfield makes him a solid RB2 choice.
.
20. Lamar Miller, Miami Dolphins
Lamar Miller bounced back last week with 75 total yards and a touchdown last week. He’s facing the Atlanta Falcons, who have given up 147 rushing yards.

Sup Ry?…I put up 211+pts in my PPR league this past weekend. Ridiculously good week for me. Vick has been justa freaking beast. Hope he continues this Thursday night. My lineup is more or less set each week. I have a D/ST question. My primary Dis Houston who play Baltimore this week. I was thinking of justrolling them despite their ‘modest’ projection. I’m thinking my pathetic Browns held them to 14ptsat home this past week. Why would’nt Houston do something similar? Also, seeing as how Weeden probably won’t go vs. Minny this week, i was thinking of dropping my other D and snagging Minny at home vs. Cleveland. It will be either Hoyer orCampbell starting. Who do you think will score the most fantasy pts? Minny off waivers at home v. CLE or just roll with Houston as usual v. BALT? (Plus Rice may sit).

What would you have to drop to get MN D?

Steelers D/ST is my other D. We carry 2 in my league. I would have to play waiver wire D’s the next few weeks. Houston has a rough stretch after BMORE this week…. SEA and SF the next two weeks after. Minny i would keep for maybe 2 games (this week home vs. CLE and next week home vs. PITT) then drop them for someone else. After the next 3 weeks, Houston’s D/ST has a really favorable schedule imo.

What do you guys think of Ridley this week? I just traded Flacco and TY Hilton for him in a 2qb league

  5. LestersLegends
    September 17th, 2013 at 7:50 am #

I would probably make that move to use MN the next two weeks then.

Hard to say with Ridley. I thought he would be more involved last week. I think he gets back on track though.

Hi Lester! Whst RB should I start this week. I like starting my stud which is Cj Spiller who playing jets, Matt Forte who is playing Pittsburg and then there Frank Gore who is playing Indy. Who should i start? I am playing two rb in my league. Give me the reason why I should start the two you pick?
    Thank,
    Rob

I have gore and forte ranked higher and list the reasons I have guys ranked where they are.

CJ hasn’t got going yet and the Jets have actually played the run well. He’s capable of breaking out at any time, but he’s riskier than the other two.

Hi Lester: Could a recommend a good def to stream this week: The Panthers, Bills, Vikings, Chiefs, Browns, Lions, Jets, Bucs and Cards are all available on the waiver wire. Thanks! – Jay

MJD has killed me through the first 2 weeks. What are your thoughts on Lamar Miller moving forward?

  10. LestersLegends
    September 17th, 2013 at 10:08 am #

Jay – I like the Vikings. You can use them next week against Pittsburgh as well.
BK – I think Miller will be a matchup guy. Solid flex and borderline RB2.

  11. Big Kev
    September 17th, 2013 at 10:31 am #

Thanks – I’m trying to get Sproles or Lamar Miller for Roddy & Vernon Davis to make up for MJD’s tailspin. What do you think?

    Ryan,
In one of my leagues I’m really struggling at the RB. I have Rice, Murray, Ridley, Wilson and Bell. The guy I’m playing has Bush. I was going to flex Bell, and play Murray and maybe Ridley or Rice. I see that Moreno is still available on my WW. I was thinking about going after him, but I hate to part with Bell after what I went through last year with Bush. Thoughts? Thanks a bunch!

  13. LestersLegends
    September 17th, 2013 at 10:40 am #

I wouldn’t trade both of them for Sproles or Miller

  14. Cardiodr
    September 17th, 2013 at 1:52 pm #

On another team I’m playing Lynch, Sproles, and Run DMC. On my bench is Ivory and Greene. Moreno is still available on the WW, do I go after him and if I do do I hold onto Green since I don’t know what Ivory is going to do with the Jets? I really need help. Thanks!

  15. LestersLegends
    September 17th, 2013 at 1:58 pm #

I would go Murray Ridley and pickup Moreno for Bell. Rice may not play. if he does play, that changes thing.

I would get Moreno over Greene. Greene is hurting and on Tennessee now.

    September 17th, 2013 at 6:13 pm #

Hi. I also have some RB issues. I have both Ridley and David Wilson. But I also have Doug Martin, Joique Bell, and Ben Tate. I am considering dropping one of them for Moreno. Good idea?

  17. LestersLegends
    September 17th, 2013 at 8:32 pm #

I don’t see any of your guys as a player to drop. Maybe try to trade Tate and a WR or TE for an upgrade at that spot and pick Moreno up for the open spot

PPR LEAGUE with 10 point bonus for over 100 yards rushing and 5 points for over 100 yards receiving.

Pick 3 RB to start in this format

    J Charles
    D Martin
    M Lynch
    A Foster

    September 18th, 2013 at 5:13 am #

Its my opinion that Snelling is the better pickup for S Jax due to his goal line work. Would you rather have Snelling or Bilal Powell on the roster? Also, would either one of them be a better starter than Bradshaw for this week? Thank you.

  20. LestersLegends
    September 18th, 2013 at 5:19 am #

Charles, Martin, and Lynch. How o you have those four backs?
I’d rather have Powell long-term. I’d use bradshaw over both this week.

  21. steve
    September 18th, 2013 at 8:11 am #

Jason Snelling, Isiah Pead, Chris Ivory or Ryan Mathews in PPR league…Mathews has obviously been a disappointment the last two weeks.

  22. LestersLegends
    September 18th, 2013 at 8:57 am #

I would still go Matthews personally.

  23. tony
    September 18th, 2013 at 1:04 pm #

I am 0-2 and last in my ppr league. My qbs are luck and griffin, wrs are nicks, edelman, roddy, wallace, sanders, hopkins. Rbs are richardson, chris johnson, mjd, mendenhall, and te is cameron. Should I try and sit tight at rb and wr or try and make some moves? I feel i should try and make some changes but none of my rbs have value right now. Just a general question.

I went ahead and dropped Greene since no one is talking on his status. I added McGahee since I’m sure he’ll pass hus physical. If not I’ll add L.Bell and hope he’ll be back after the buy week and just work with Sproles, Lynch, Run DMC and Ivory unless you think otherwise. Of course, Cleveland is a different beast then Denver.

  30. LestersLegends

    I think that’s a good plan

  31. The Blair Walsh Project
    September 19th, 2013 at 4:25 am #

Hey Les. There’s no way in hell i’m starting TRich this week now, right? I mean he might learn a few plays, and get a few totes, but i should wait a week. He can’t learn the playbook in a few practices. Interestingly enough i have Bradshaw as well. Thinking of rolling Sproles now in my RB2 spot this week. It’s a PPR league.
    QB-Vick
    RB-CJohnson
    RB-Sproles
    WR-Dez
    WR-BMarsh
    Flex-RCobb
    TE-Olsen
    D/ST- Minny (home vs.CLE)
    K-Walsh

Bench- Cam, TRich, Bradshaw, Stevie Johnson,Bennett,Houston D/ST.

  32. The Blair Walsh Project
    September 19th, 2013 at 4:38 am #

Also, what’s TRich’s value ROS now? Better? The same? worse?

  33. The Blair Walsh Project
    September 19th, 2013 at 4:49 am #

I just read your TR article on the home page. My bad. I’ll assume he will be safe to start next week.

  34. LestersLegends
    September 19th, 2013 at 5:23 am #

I think T-Rich will be safe going forward. Should be a quick adjustment. I like your play of rolling with Sproles.

  35. The Blair Walsh Project
    September 19th, 2013 at 5:38 am #

I notice you have Martellus Bennett ranked higher than Olsen. I know he has 3 TD’s in the first 2 games, but i don’t know if i’m ‘buying in’just yet. Did’nt he start off last yr. with a bang early, then fizzled out? I think Olsen will have twice as many targets. But i could be wrong.

  36. LestersLegends
    September 19th, 2013 at 7:38 am #

They are in the same tier, imo. I have him higher, but it’s not by much. They are interchangeable.

  37. Bobby The Brain
    September 19th, 2013 at 10:24 am #

Would you take a chance at starting Cleveland Running back Chris Ogbanayah this week at the flex spot now that he is starting? Our local newspaper is reporting that even if Cleveland signs McGahee, he won’t be playing week 3.

  38. LestersLegends
    September 19th, 2013 at 10:31 am #

    Over?

  39. Bobby The Brain
    September 19th, 2013 at 11:19 am #

Well I have Vernon Davis plugged in at the flex right now, but was willing to take a lightning in a bottle type of gamble since Chris Ogbanayah will be getting all of Cleveland’s touches out of the backfield.

Scary thought but it’s not a bad risk.

  41. The Blair Walsh Project
    September 19th, 2013 at 1:17 pm #

    Define irony.

A poster named ‘Bobby the Brain’ misspells Chris Ogbonnaya’s name.

PS Play VDavis. The Browns struggled to put up points w/ Weeden and TRich(3FG’s and 1TD to the TE in 2 games). They were ‘Jaguar-esque’ on offense w/ the starting QB and RB, let alone with 2-3rdstringers in Hoyer and Ogbonnaya. I’m thinking 24-6, Minny wins at home…..Ryan? lol

    September 19th, 2013 at 1:23 pm #

Ry…What’s the ‘RB1 in return’ value of Mike Vick if he goes off for a third straight game tonight? Who could i target? Thinking about selling high and improving my RB situation, and rolling Cam ROS. Thoughts?

  43. The Blair Walsh Project
    September 19th, 2013 at 1:27 pm #

My RB’s are TRich, CJohnson, Sproles, and Bradshaw.

  44. TheBigLipinski
    September 19th, 2013 at 1:32 pm #

A friend gave me this trade proposal.

He gets RB Doug “The Muscle Hamster” Martin in return I get Brandon Marshall and MJD. I know MJD is hurt and on a terrible team but…

    Other RB on my team
    Steven Ridley
    Knowshon Moreno
    Fred Jackson
    Ahmad Bradshaw

The only reason I am considering this trade is because the WRs it would let me have. Other WR on team
    Andre Johnson
    Pierre Garcon
    T.Y. Hilton
    Eddie Royal

RB would drop off slightly but I would have killer points at the WR/Flex position. Am I crazy to be thinking about accepting this trade?

  45. LestersLegends
    September 19th, 2013 at 1:51 pm #

BWP – Funny. I’d play VD if he’s healthy too. Hard to say on Vick. There are so many decent QBs out there, it may be tough to move him.
Big L – I don’t love your RBs enough to make that traded despite the strength it would give you at WR.

  46. The Blair Walsh Project
    September 19th, 2013 at 1:52 pm #

Hey Big Lip…It sounds like YOU wanna do the deal. In the end you’ll make your own decision. But….Looking at your RB’s after you make this trade….who you starting? Ridley and Moreno? The other 2 guys are more handcuffs. RB2′s at very best. I’m thinking your RB production without Martin drops off more than ‘slightly’ as you say. You can’t bank on MJD doing anything really. But BMarsh is a solid WR1. That help? lol

  47. TheBigLipinski
    September 19th, 2013 at 4:35 pm #

Yes, both good points. I think I just wanted people to talk me out of it. Or I just wanted to make a trade.

hey bud i have gore, chris johnson, and demarco murray, need 2, ppr. also have hakeem nicks in as flex, should i start nicks or do all 3 backs? thanks.

  49. LestersLegends
    September 20th, 2013 at 5:18 am #

Jay – I’d go Gore, CJ and Nicks

  50. Billy Gunnz
    September 20th, 2013 at 7:42 am #

Hypothetically speaking, if Mendenhall misses the game sunday would you start his backup Andre Ellington over Vernon Davis at the flex? I was offered Tavon Austin for Vernon straight up, would you pull the trigger?

  51. Gary
    September 20th, 2013 at 7:46 am #

Would it be worth me trading for Willis McGahee by giving up a lower tier bench player? I mean he is going to be the starting running back in Cleveland and his backups won’t be threatening him for touches any time soon.

  52. LestersLegends
    September 20th, 2013 at 7:49 am #

I would not trade VD for Austin. Who is your other TE? I would use VD over Ellington.

  53. LestersLegends
    September 20th, 2013 at 8:25 am #

Gary – I would probably pick him up. Its a matter of who you are dropping.

  54. Billy Gunnz
    September 20th, 2013 at 8:48 am #

My other TE is Julius Thomas, I’m 0-2 and trying to shake up my roster

  55. LestersLegends
    September 20th, 2013 at 9:28 am #

I would want more for VD.

  56. D
    September 20th, 2013 at 10:31 am #

Who do you see being more valuable moving forward between Ellington (Mendenhall not able to stay healthy) and Pierre Thomas (Ingram dinged up and ineffective)? I am in trouble with RB, starting Bilal Powell after S Jax injury and Bradshaw downgrade. Trying to get ahead the curve since I burned my waiver on Edelman. Thanks as always.

    Te- J. Thomas
    Flex- J.Cook
