2013 Fantasy Football WR Rankings – NFL Week 8

Oct 22, 2013

With another exciting week of football under our belts, here are the Lester’s Legends 2013 Week 8 fantasy football wide receiver rankings.
1. Calvin Johnson, Detroit Lions
He’s back! Calvin Johnson returned to Megatron form against the Cincinnati Bengals with 155 yards and a pair of touchdowns. This week he’s the Dallas Cowboys’ problem. The have allowed 291.9 yards and a pair of touchdowns per game.
2. Dez Bryant, Dallas Cowboys
Dez Bryant is averaging 81.3 yards and 0.9 touchdowns. I’m expecting a shootout with the Detroit Lions as Dez tries to keep up with Megatron. The Lions have allowed 282 yards and 1.4 touchdowns per game.
3. Jordy Nelson, Green Bay Packers
Jordy Nelson is averaging 87.7 yards and 0.8 touchdowns per game. He was able to score on Joe Haden. Imagine what he’ll do to the Minnesota Vikings’ secondary.
4. Victor Cruz, New York Giants
The New York Giants aren’t good, but they can move the ball through the air. That shouldn’t be a problem this week against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Birds have allowed 311.6 yards and two touchdowns per game.
5. Wes Welker, Denver Broncos
Wes Welker is averaging 67.7 yards and 1.1 touchdowns per game. He should continue to roll against the Washington Redskins. The Skins have allowed 262.8 yards and 1.8 touchdowns per game.
6. A.J. Green, Cincinnati Bengals
A.J. Green is averaging 88.4 yards and 0.7 touchdowns per game. He has gone over 100 yards with a touchdown in the past two games. The Cincinnati Bengals are facing the New York Jets this week. The Jets have allowed 10 passing scores.
7. Demaryius Thomas, Denver Broncos
Demaryius Thomas is averaging 87.1 yards and 0.7 touchdowns per game. He’s a little frustrating because Peyton Manning hasn’t been going to him early, but he finishes with solid numbers.
8. Pierre Garcon, Washington Redskins
The Redskins are going to have to air it out to keep pace with the Broncos. Pierre Garcon is averaging 77.7 yards and 0.3 touchdowns. The Broncos have allowed 319.9 yards and a pair of touchdowns per game.
9. Vincent Jackson, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Vincent Jackson is averaging 90.7 yards and 0.7 touchdowns. He has really clicked with Mike Glennon, scoring four touchdowns in the past two games. This week he takes on a tough Carolina Panthers defense, but Jackson is a tough cover due to his size.
10. DeSean Jackson, Philadelphia Eagles
DeSean Jackson is averaging 87.1 yard and 0.7 touchdowns, but he is at the mercy of his quarterback situation. Hopefully Michael Vick can play against the New York Giants.
11. Eric Decker, Denver Broncos
Decker is averaging 89.6 yards and 0.4 touchdowns. Peyton spreads the wealth.
12. Harry Douglas, Atlanta Falcons
Harry Douglas stepped up for the Atlanta Falcons with Julio Jones and Roddy White out catching seven passes for 149 yards and a score against the Bucs. Matt Ryan will continue to go to him against the Arizona Cardinals. The Cards have allowed 252.7 yards and 1.9 touchdowns per game.
13. Jarrett Boykin, Green Bay Packers
The Green Bay Packers were short-handed with injuries to Randall Cobb and James Jones. Jarrett Boykin went out and caught eight passes for 103 yards and a score. Now that he has Aaron Rodgers’ confidence, he should be heavily involved this against the Vikings as well.
14. Antonio Brown, Pittsburgh Steelers
Antonio Brown is averaging 91.3 yards and 0.3 touchdowns per game. He should get plenty of looks against the Oakland Raiders. The Raiders have allowed 241 yards and 1.5 touchdowns per game.
15. Justin Blackmon, Jacksonville Jaguars
Justin Blackmon came back to Earth with 58 yards against the San Diego Chargers. This week he faces the San Francisco 49ers. The Niners have allowed 219.4 yards and 1.3 touchdowns.
16. Hakeem Nicks, New York Giants
Hakeem Nicks should see plenty of targets against a soft Philadelphia Eagles secondary.
17. Larry Fitzgerald, Arizona Cardinals
Larry Fitzgerald is averaging 60.3 yards and 0.6 touchdowns per game. Playing on Thursday gave his hamstring more time to heal before facing the Falcons. They have allowed 266.7 yards and 2.3 touchdowns per game.
18. Anquan Boldin, San Francisco 49ers
Anquan Boldin is averaging 70.7 yards and 0.3 touchdowns. He’s inconsistent, but is a solid play against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jags have allowed 15 passing touchdowns.
19. Mike Wallace, Miami Dolphins
Mike Wallace is averaging 59.5 yards with just one touchdown in six games. He’s been targeted 26 times in his past two games. That trend should continue against the New England Patriots.
20. Steve Smith, Carolina Panthers
Steve Smith is averaging just 48.8 yards, but he has scored a touchdown in back-to-back weeks. He could make it three straight against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
21. Josh Gordon, Cleveland Browns
Josh Gordon is averaging 90 yards and 0.4 touchdowns. Unfortunately he’s facing the Kansas City Chiefs this week. Brandon Weeden will spend a lot of time on his back.
22. Marques Colston, New Orleans Saints
Marques Colston is averaging 54 yards per game with just one touchdown. This week, coming out of a bye, is a good time for Colston to get back on track against the Buffalo Bills. The Bills have allowed 256.9 yards and 2.1 touchdowns per game.
23. Cecil Shorts III, Jacksonville Jaguars
Cecil Shorts III is averaging 70.1 yards. He showed incredible toughness playing through pain to finish with eight catches for 80 yards against the San Diego Chargers.
24. Terrance Williams, Dallas Cowboys
Terrance Williams has scored a touchdown in three straight games. He should be able to exploit the Lions’ secondary with most of the attention on Dez and Jason Witten.
25. Rueben Randle, New York Giants
Randle should also be involved in a shootout with the Eagles.
26. Michael Floyd, Arizona Cardinals
Michael Floyd is averaging 59.4 yards. He should get plenty of chances against the Falcons.

would you trade your Roddy and Amendola for Garcon and J Randle?

Rozay – I added him at 24. He’s worth a play this week.
Joe – Depends on your record. If you can wait for Roddy and Amendola you’re likely better in the long run.

I know Williams is replacing Miles Austin and becoming the #2 WR. In the long run, who will have the most upside to replace Wayne: Williams, Douglas, Randle, maybe Boykin. Thanks!

any one but randle. I’d rank them douglas, williams, boykin

Hey Ryan….love this line under Flash Gordon, Browns WR….

“Brandon Weeden will spend a lot of time on his back.” lmao

Good thing the Browns have (2) 1st rd picks and 2 in the 3rd and 4th rounds for next years draft. Plenty of ammo if need be, to move up and grab yet another ‘franchise’ QB. Between TRich and Weeden, The Walrus and Heckert really screwed the pooch on that draft.

Thanks, I have Decker who is obviously a must start, but I can’t decide if I should roll with consistent T.Williams or the lottery ticket Jarrett Boykin. Is Boykin’s high ranking based on the assumption that James Jones won’t be able to go this week?

    October 22nd, 2013 at 8:58 am #

Rozay, it’s based on Cobb being out indefinately, plus Jones not at full strength, plus the QB throwing the ball imo. I like Williams ROS over Boykin myself. Who knows?

I don’t like Gordon @ KC. I don’t want to drop K. Allen, but I have my entire bench on a bye and now I’m -1 WR. Do I have more upside to replace Allen for Williams? I was thinking of replacing Bennett with Reed to back up Gonzo. I need some strength the next few weeks. Thoughts?

bwp – ha. maybe it’s campbell time
Rozay – williams ros. boykin this week

Wow. He’s so talented. I hate to sit him this week, but I’m thinking of dropping Allen. Ryan this is a different league, I have 3. Only have Gordon and Jordy. Everyone else is off and Wayne is out.Trying to get Douglas and then dropping Allen for Williams to replace Gordon, unless you think it’s a mistake to drop him. The bye has me screwed. I thought about dropping Matthews, but I’m weak at RB. No one does trades. I have an empty slot to fill, I’m -1 player. Should I stick with the Pats D this week, Miami isn’t looking to good?

  16. LestersLegends

I had heard rumors. I know its early, I’ll get a jump on Douglas. It looks like I have to play Cameron with Graham out. Of all weeks, and I have a tough match up. Gonzo should be good in this league, and do better than last weeks 3.0?

I was thinking of packaging Cameron with DMC or Bell for Welker or AJ Green to someone who lost Doug Martin & Finley? I was thinking DMC because of his injury history. That leaves me with Lynch, Sproles and Le’Veon. This way I can pick up Reed off the WW and then a D/S when the Chiefs are on bye if she bites. She’s in bad shape, better shot for Green then Welker? She has Welker on the bench, or make an offer on both? Thanks.

Ryan, in my one league I guess they are backing off Harvin for the Rams. I need him for week 9 byes, I expect him to start at home anyway. Now Nicks may not go due to a dislocated finger he reinjured in week 2. I think Murray is close, but if he doesn’t, I’m-1 player. Nicks is my weakest player in points, drops, 0 TD’s, if he plays I’ll start him, if not should I drop him? If Harvin plays next week I’m fine, if not I can’t cover my bye week. I lose DT, Moreno, Blackmon, most of my strength. I think VD also. Just a thought, I can’t move him. Let me know, thanks.

Hey Les, just wondering whether you could give me any feedback/ possible changes with the lineup I’ll be slotting in for this weeks games.

    QB: Colin Kaepernick (@JAX)
    RB1: Adrian Peterson (GB)
    RB2: Frank Gore (@JAX)
    WR1: A.J. Green (NYJ)
    WR2: Marques Colston (BUF)
    TE: Tony Gonzalez (ARI)
    FLX: Hakeem Nicks (@PHI)
    DEF: San Fransisco 49ers (@JAX)
    Kicker: Stephen Gostkowski (MIA)

Tony Romo (Considering playing him over Kaepernick, although I’ve used him the last two weeks and Kap’s been outperforming him)
Alfred Morris (not sure what to do with him considering his scores have been sub-par and Helu got 3 touchdowns)
    Zac Stacy
    Mike James
    Harry Douglas
James Jones (not sure if healthy, should I play him if healthy?)

    Thanks Les

Hey Jackson, I’d probably play Douglas over Colsten, and Romo over Kaep. I think SF is just gonna run the ball down their throats, whereas Dallas will have to throw more vs. DET, but that’s just me. You have good options. Go with your gut.

Ryan, Reed isn’t available off the WW. I went to grab T. Williams to replace S. Greene. I checked to see if anyone did anything crazy, & someone dropped Demarco Murray. I’m waiting for it to clear on Friday. This is my stacked team. I’ll still do the trade, I’m going to need to pick up a D/S for the Chiefs bye week anyway. Thanks as always!

Cheers, Blair Walsh Project- you make some very good points. You’re definitely right about the QB, will switch it there. Doc…Ryan…Coach Chud says he is “90% sure Weeden will start” sunday vs. KC this morning on local radio. Several media outlets in town are saying he is ‘on a short leash’ in this game. Ryan, Harbin is on another team your not following me. I’m asking ABOUT Nicks.
    My team for week 9:
Murray, Rice, Lacy (hoping no set backs w/ Murray)
    K.Allen, Harvin
Bench: Moreno, DT, Blackmon, Nicks, VD.
If Harbin doesn’t play, as I stated above. I expect him to make a home game debut, or if Murray has a set back should I drop Nicks if he can’t go Sunday. I need a player if he or Murray doesn’t go. I would grab Douglas or Williams, LaFell, Boykin. Thanks

Campbell has a 60.8 completion percentage, a 82.4 passer rating, 76 picks to 52 INTs. Weeden is 56.2, 70.9, 19-23. I do think they will get better play.

It’s a standard NFL league. I’m just telling you what’s the best available on the WW…slim pickings. If you have suggestions, post some names and I’ll look. I need a WW this week and next. So no week 8-9 byes, it puts limits on a lot. My posts are all individual not all together.

Williams is gone. I’m fine if Murray plays. If he doesn’t, I’m looking at P. Thomas, J.Rodgers, Hartline, B. Gibson, Boykin, Marvin Jones, Ellington. VD goes on a bye next week and I am wondering if I need to pickup Reed to cover Cameron or wait. He’s gone in all my other leagues. I hate to just drop him, but everyone says to sit him this week at KC. I have to play him in one league with Graham unlikely. Campbell was a bust when he started for the Bears last year. His stats may be okay with the Skins but not since. I don’t want to drop Allen, but I’m stuck if Murray can’t go. I think Reed will be the next Cameron.

  42. LestersLegends

  50. Blair Walsh Project

Vick (hamstring) practiced in full Thursday.

Vick has been unhindered in drills for two days in a row and will soon test out his hamstring Friday by running full speed, as evidenced by his statement that he’s “gonna run 100 yards as fast as I can.” By any stretch of the imagination, expect him to start Sunday against the Giants, barring a setback in the interim.

Just released from rotowire…I think he’s good to go. I think i’m stressing because my opponent is playing Stafford, who’s on fire. Just trying to make the right play.

I have to play Cameron with Graham out. I’m counting on the KC defense. I saw Vick’s 100 yard dash. I’m thinking of playing him over RG3. Cam played well tonight. Ryan,Please tell me what you think. I keep going back & forth on my flex option. I also can grab DeMarco Murray off the WW because someone was stupid & dropped him.
    Lynch, Sproles, Le’Veon
    Dez, A. Brown
Bench: Brady, DMC, Blackmon, T. Williams, K. Allen
If I pick up Murray, who is my best option to drop without causing trouble with bye weeks? Ben says he doesn’t want to throw the wildcat option, which wants me want to go with Williams. If Graham plays once the injury report is released, I’ll start my trade because I need a D/S for the Chiefs bye week, should I still package him with DMC for AJ Green or Welker? I think Murray is a waste on WW with RB situation being what it is.

  61. LestersLegends
    October 25th, 2013 at 2:40 pm #

I wouldn’t use murray as a flex opton, but I would add him for Allen. Williams isn’t a bad option if you don’t want to use brown. If Graham goes, it’s not a bad play to package Cam with DMC for AJ or Welker.
