2013 Fantasy Football WR Rankings – Week 5

Oct 1, 2013

Dez Bryant
.
With another exciting week of football under our belts, here are the Lester’s Legends 2013 Week 5 fantasy football wide receiver rankings.
.
1. Dez Bryant, Dallas Cowboys
Dez Bryant has heated up, scoring four touchdowns in his past three games. The Dallas Cowboys will be forced to throw often against the Denver Broncos. That should mean a big day for Bryant as Denver has allowed 316.3 yards per game.
.
2. Victor Cruz, New York Giants
Victor Cruz is about the only thing the New York Giants have going for them. He is averaging 106.3 yard and a touchdown per game. The Philadelphia Eagles have struggled defensively, giving up 325 yard and 2.3 passing touchdowns per game.
.
3. Calvin Johnson, Detroit Lions
Calvin Johnson is averaging 78 yards and a touchdown per game. He is facing the Green Bay Packers, who have allowed 311 yards and 2.7 touchdowns per game. Megatron had 261 yards and a touchdown in two games against the Packers last year.
.
4. Demaryius Thomas, Denver Broncos
Demaryius Thomas is averaging 98.3 yards and a touchdown as the Broncos have scored at will. Dallas has allowed 304.5 yards and 2.5 touchdowns per game. Peyton Manning should have a field day.
.
5. Wes Welker, Denver Broncos
Wes Welker has six touchdowns already as Manning is taking advantage of his precise route running and quickness. He always seems to be open.
.
6. Julio Jones, Atlanta Falcons
Julio Jones is averaging 120.3 yards and 0.5 touchdowns per game. He’s facing the New York Jets, who have allowed seven touchdown passes already.
.
7. Brandon Marshall, Chicago Bears
Brandon Marshall is averaging 87 yards and 0.5 touchdowns. The Chicago Bears will be forced to air it out against the New Orleans Saints.
.
8. A.J. Green, Cincinnati Bengals
A.J. Green received 15 targets last week. He only managed 51 yards, which was his highest total since Week 1. Look for him to rebound against the New England Patriots.
.
9. Jordy Nelson, Green Bay Packers
Jordy Nelson is averaging 96.3 yards and a touchdown. He’s coming off a bye so he should be fresh against the Detroit Lions, who have allowed 268 yards per game.
.
10. Torrey Smith, Baltimore Ravens
Torrey Smith is averaging 108.8 yards per game. He has not had less than 85 yards in any game this year. Look for another strong performance against the Miami Dolphins.
.
11. DeSean Jackson, Philadelphia Eagles
DeSean Jackson was held to 34 yards against the Broncos. Look for him to bounce back against the Giants, who have yielded 10 passing touchdowns already.
.
12. Randall Cobb, Green Bay Packers
Randall Cobb is averaging 96.7 yards with a pair of touchdowns in three games. He averaged 88 yard and 0.5 touchdowns in two games against the Lions last year.
.
13. Eric Decker, Denver Broncos
Manning has done an amazing job getting his top three receivers involved. Eric Decker is averaging 85 yards.
.
14. Andre Johnson, Houston Texans
Andre Johnson is averaging 92 yards per game, but hasn’t scored yet. He’s facing the San Francisco 49ers, who have allowed just 190.5 yard per game.
.
15. Larry Fitzgerald, Arizona Cardinals
Larry Fitzgerald is averaging 61.6 yards with three touchdowns in four games. He’s facing the Carolina Panthers, who have been tough against the pass.
.
16. Marques Colston, New Orleans Saints
Marquest Colston remains a steady WR2 option. He’s facing the Chicago Bears, who have have allowed 277.8 yards per game.
.
17. Anquan Boldin, San Francisco 49ers
Anquan Boldin is averaging 93 yards and 0.5 touchdowns. The Houston Texans have only allowed 141 passing yards per game, but they have yielded six touchdowns.
.
18. Steve Smith, Carolina Panthers
Steve Smith is averaging 47.7 yards with a touchdown in three games. He should come out of the bye firing against the Arizona Cardinals, who have allowed 266 yards and a pair of touchdowns per game.
.
19. Josh Gordon, Cleveland Browns
Josh Gordon is averaging 14 targets and 108.5 yards since returning from suspension. He’s facing the Buffalo Bills, who have allowed 277 yards and two touchdowns per game.
.
20. Mike Wallace, Miami Dolphins
Mike Wallace is always a deep threat with his elite speed. He’s facing the Baltimore Ravens, who have buckled down since giving up seven touchdowns to Peyton Manning in Week 1.
.
21. Julian Edelman, New England Patriots
Julian Edelman is averaging 8.5 catches for 79.8 yards and 0.5 touchdowns. He should remain one of Tom Brady’s top targets as long as Danny Amendola and Rob Gronkowski remain out. This week he faces the Cincinnati Bengals.
.
22. James Jones, Green Bay Packers
After not catching a pass in Week 1 Jones has 212 yards and a touchdown in the past two games.
.
23. Kenbrell Thompkins, New England Patriots
Kenbrell Thompkins has 168 yards and three touchdowns over the past three games.
.
24. Reggie Wayne, Indianapolis Colts

I was gonna bust your chops if you had Stevie Johnson anywhere near the top 25 WR’s this week. He’ll be on lockdown Thursday.

    Sincerly,
    Joe Haden

Haha. Yeah, I wouldn’t want any part of Joe Haden.

I have Dez Bryant and desperately need a RB2…what do you think of Dez for Josh Gordon and Lamar Miller or Dez for Josh Gordon and LeVon Bell? I have Decker, James Jones, Edelman, Sidney Rice and Marlon Brown as my other WR

I like the Bell option better, but what about moving Edelman for Miller?

Already tried, it got rejected…im trying to shop edelman around to sell high before gronk and amendola come back, even though i feel amendola wont be healthy all season.

Frank….Amendola has never been healthy is his damn life. Gronk seems to be always hurting or having some sort of issue, missing multiple games, etc… I stay away from the ‘glass guys’ every draft. No point wasting a potential higher pick on someone w/ injury concerns/history. They do you no good sitting on your bench gathering dust.

Shoring up your RB core while diminishing your WR’s is semi-deafeatist. Point-wise at least. Decker and Gordon, imho, are WR2′s. Dez is a WR1. Miller and Bell are RB2′s. At least value-wise. Who would your starting WR’s be after this trade ? Gordon and Decker? You must be a gambler? lol…

My WR3 spot is suspect and with Pierre Garcon and Mike Williams on bye I’m scratching my head. I have Stephen Hill and Sanu on my bench. Hill likely has a concussion and Sanu just isn’t good. Should I drop Sanu and add/start any of the other following longhots?: Pettis, Woods, Gibson, Avery, Bess, Ginn, Streater, Avanty, McCluster, DHB?

Do you think Blackmon will have a big game against the Rams since their defense isn’t all that great? Do I continue to sit on D. Wilson on just dump him?

  9. LestersLegends
    October 1st, 2013 at 7:30 pm #

jc – what cardio said. add Blackmon.
cardio – i’d hold out hope on Wilson personally

Blackmon is already owned. Need a win but options are ugly

I’m assuming Rams and Chiefs D this week?

    @JC
NFL Fantasy was talking about Avery as a good pickup option. Smith is more of a short passer.

i’d go avery as well cardio. Yes, I like the Rams and the Chiefs D. Rams more.

Ryan, In one of my leagues I’m starting Hartline and DT (Blackmon, Hicks), and Rice, Murray and Moreno (Lacy, Powell). Should I stick with my current lineup or put Blackmon in for Hartline? Lacy or Powell in for Moreno? I need to make maximum points with Walsh on bye.
Also, I’m assuming I stick with Thompkins over Blackmon? Thanks!

  15. LestersLegends
    October 2nd, 2013 at 12:18 pm #

I like Powell over Moreno. Blackmon is a high-risk/reward option. Depends if you’re gambling or not

so where would amendola be if he plays?

    October 2nd, 2013 at 12:47 pm #

Ryan, I’m in bye hell here and have a few unfavorable matchups. Please tell me what you think, the team I’m facing is tough with no byes.
    Rivers
    Forte, Lynch
    Jordy, Wayne, Gordon
    Gonzo
    Walsh (bye)
    Rams
Bench: RG3, L. Bell, Matthews, A. Johnson, Jacoby Jones, Bennett. I know you have Bennett ranked higher, but I went with Gonzo last week and he was back. He may be the better play against the Jets than Bennett against the Saints after watching both games. I don’t like Johnson at SF, Wayne isn’t ideal against the hawks but its at home. I am just wondering if I need to play Matthews. What do you think? Thanks!

    Hi Lester!
Would you drop Wallace or Hilton for J. Gordon Wr Browns?

  19. Randy
    October 2nd, 2013 at 1:07 pm #

2 Receiver League – Marlon Brown or Tarrence Williams of Dallas at WR2? (I know, bye week killed me at receiver this week)

  20. LestersLegends
    October 2nd, 2013 at 1:22 pm #

    beastie – he’d be a risky wr2
cardio – I think the team you have set is good. I’d go Johnson over Gordon, but that’s splitting hair.
    Ben – Hilton.

Out of Gordon, Johnson or Matthews who has the most potential for yards and finding the endzone? I need points. Is it too risky to play Gordon Thursday rather than Johnson who hasn’t been 100% against SF with Schaub doing poorly?

  22. LestersLegends
    October 2nd, 2013 at 2:44 pm #

I already answered that I like AJ and have him ranked higher. If you want to use Gordon, that’s fine.

Lester and Cardio- I took a gamble and grabbed Kerley. I am in dyer need of a win and who else do the Jets throw to? Avery is still available, what do you think?

Important to mention its a PPR league

    I like avery in ppr

  26. JC
    October 2nd, 2013 at 3:39 pm #

I appreciate the input and was maybe over thinking it. I went with Kerley because 81% on fantasypro’s (which you mentioned as a good tool) liked him over Avery…??

  27. LestersLegends
    October 2nd, 2013 at 5:57 pm #

It is a good tool. I just like Avery because Smith has a noodle arm and he loves to dink and dunk, which plays to Avery’s skill set.

  28. Cardiodr
    October 3rd, 2013 at 2:22 pm #

    @JC
If I didn’t get Blackmon, I would’ve gone for Avery for that reason. Bowe is really out of the picture because Smith can’t crank the ball. Powell is best offensive weapon for Jets this week IMHO.

Ryan, Fab’s is saying Nicks is a must start which scares the hell out of me. Who REALLY gives me the most upside Nicks, Hartline or Blackmon? Thanks! Just out of curiosity if Jacoby Jones plays do I play him or wait a week? Thanks again!

  30. LestersLegends
    October 3rd, 2013 at 2:45 pm #

Nicks has the most upside. I would not play Jacoby Jones.

    Hey there,
My team for this week is Ryan, Forte, J. Charles, DT, Roddy, FInley and D. Richardson.
On the bench I have ROmo, Lamar miller, Marlon Brown, Hartline, TYHilton and Fleener.
    1) Would you do it otherwise this week?
and 2) Should i go for edelman off the waiver and who would you drop? I guess I need better W/R position, if roddy is well in a couple of weeks.

I wanted to trade for nicks, but couldn’t decide who to drop.

    sorry for the long post

Good afternoon Lester. This may be a no brainer but why not ask. I have a good chance of winning my matchup this week down 15.6 points with Matty Ice going off tonight and one gamble receiver due to byes. I grabbed Kerley but Stephen Hill looks like he will suite up tonight. Do I start the 100% healthy Kerley or go with Stephen Hill?

    Thanks

    Safe route with Kerley
