I continue the All-time tour with my beloved Boston Red Sox.

Since we’re dealing with over a century and thousands of players I will assume the DH role for both leagues.  I will limit the teams to 25 players.  I’ll carry 13 batters and 12 pitchers for each team.  With baseball season around the corner, what better time to take this journey.  The teams are based on the stats the players produced with the team so David Ortiz, for example, isn’t there yet for the Red Sox.  I may tinker with the lineups slightly to get the best roster possible.

Manager: Joe Cronin

I think that kid Ruth might be pretty good on this team, and hey maybe he can do a little DH duty, I hear he might be a pretty good hitter,

The thing with teams with so many greats is seeing a all time great like Tris Speaker and Manny on the bench, many may argue that Cronin should be the starting SS. but I tend to agree with you as it is easy to forget how good Nomar was for several years

Also maybe Dick Radatz as a closer, If there is a “Weakness” on this team it is the closer position, even though right now Papelbon may become among the alltime elite closers by the time he is done.

Yeah, it’s a shame Ruth is only on this team as a Pitcher. Nomar put up sick numbers. If Speaker and Manny player there longer they would probably bump Dewey.

I would take Dewey because of his Glove and Arm,

I was going to come back because I did not see the Skipper the 1st time,
No love for Grady Little or Don Zimmer?

I had Raditz on the old one, but Pap has been sick.

The Yankees and Red Sox both have impressive all-time lineups. I’m willing to bet right now that the all-time “Tampa Bay Rays” lineup can’t beat either of those teams ;)

No, but the 2008 version did.

that OF is the hard one

I’d put Speaker in CF for his glove…heck – his bat was pretty darn good too

    thus having Yaz at DH

but hey? with all those legends…how can you go wrong?

helluva squad if you can leave Red Ruffing off the team

That team is loaded! Yeah, you have to put Yaz in there somewhere, and I’m sure some other great players of the game will see a similar situation when you get to them, too.

And as often as Cy Young pitched, you could probably add another postition player or two with all those innings he chewed up! LOL!

    Nice post!

I laughed when I saw Tris Speaker listed as a reserve. C’mon. Do some homework. Compare Speaker’s numbers to that of Evans. And also remember that Speaker is considered one of the greatest defenseive outfielders of all time.

Dewey was an exceptional defensive outfielder as well. He had 1000 more hits with Boston, 700 more runs, 200 more doubles, 300 more hrs, and 800 more rbis.

Those of us who love the History of the game love our Old-timer Hero’s I know I ma guilty of this, But there are great PLayers who have played in the past 15 -20 years who did not juice, We should reconize them along with the HOF players
One peson who did that late in his life was Ted Williams who called Tony Gwynn as an all_time great hitter, I would love to know what Ted Williams would say about Ichiro and Joe mauer and also Albert Puljos. When it said and done we may be seeing the Some of the greatest SS, Catcher and RFs of all time that would be on a All-Time 25 man roster.

Those are three of the best hitters for sure.

Also at least with Ichiro a great fielder. Puljos looks great with the glove, I have heard Tim Kurchin say that if Puljos has another 5 years like he has been having He just might rank ahead Gehrig as the All-Time 1st basman, As A Yankee fan I screamed, But He just may be right
