I continue the All-time tour with the defending AL Champion Tampa Bay Rays.

Since we’re dealing with over a century and thousands of players I will assume the DH role for both leagues.  I will limit the teams to 25 players.  I’ll carry 13 batters and 12 pitchers for each team.  With baseball season around the corner, what better time to take this journey.  The teams are based on the stats the players produced with the team so David Ortiz, for example, isn’t there yet for the Red Sox.  I may tinker with the lineups slightly to get the best roster possible.

Manager: Joe Maddon

C – Toby Hall
1B – Fred McGriff
2B – Jorge Cantu
3B – Aubrey Huff
SS – Julio Lugo
OF – Carl Crawford
OF – Randy Winn
OF – B.J. Upton
DH:  Carlos Pena
Bench: C John Flaherty, 2B Miguel Cairo, 3B Evan Longoria, OF Rocco Baldelli

SP – Scott Kazmir
SP – James Shields
SP – Victor Zambrano
SP – Albie Lopez
SP – Rolando Arrojo
P – Esteban Yan
P – Mark Hendrickson
P – Andy Sonnanstine
P – Jim Mecir
P – Matt Garza
RP – Danys Baez
RP – Roberto Hernandez

That’s the team I came up with. Do you have any changes you’d like to suggest? I’m always open to them.

Man, that pitching is ugly. Victor Zambrano? Roberto Hernandez? Albie Lopez? Ugh!! They certainly don’t have a rich pitching history quite yet.

No, but they have some youngsters that will be there soon.

I’d agree with that. It’s just amazing to look back at their 10+ seasons and realize just how bad it has been for them. You’d think they would have gotten one veteran on the downturn at some point who could’ve cracked this list, they did with the hitters.

agree. it took them a while, but I think they’re built for long haul now.
