Broncos Using Receiver by Committee Approach

May 25, 2010

The Denver Post is reporting that the Denver Broncos plan to use a WRBC (Wide Receiver by Committee) in the wake of the Brandon Marshall trade.

It makes sense when you consider that they are without a legitimate #1 receiver. Eddie Royal, one of last season’s biggest disappointments, could see an increased role, but Coach Josh McDaniels has yet to come up with a means to utilize the third-year receiver. Jabar Gaffney and Brandon Stokley are good complimentary pieces, but neither keep opposing defensive coordinators up at night thinking of ways to game plan for them. Rookies Demaryious Thomas and Eric Decker have plenty of potential, but will have growing pains.

That doesn’t mean the passing game is useless. Clearly there aren’t any WR options at this point that fantasy owners should be clamoring over. However, the Broncos could still yield a decent backup fantasy QB, whether it be Kyle Orton or Brady Quinn.
