Here is a a look back at the past week in baseball to bring you the surprising stars.

Pitcher
Jonathan Broxton – The Dodgers RP Jonathan Broxton picked up a couple of Saves last week as Takashi Saito landed on the DL with an elbow strain.  His ERA wasn’t great (4.50), but his WHIP (1.00) was low, he struck out three batters in 2 Innings, and he converted both save attempts.  Takashi will be out 6-8 weeks so Broxton could have a decent run.

Catcher
Paul Lo Duca
- It was a short week and I’ve profiled nearly every “no-name” catcher so I figured I’d give the nod to Washington’s Lo Duca.  He tied for the lead among Catchers with 4 RBI last week.  He went 4 for 16 with a Run, a Double, and a Stolen Base.  His four hits tied for second among Catchers.

Corner Infielder
Nomar Garciaparra - More surprising than his success is the fact that he’s been healthy since July 4th.  He’s been playing a lot of SS because of Rafael Furcal’s injury, but he qualifies at 1B, 3B, and SS in Yahoo leagues.  All he did in the past week was go 6 of 13 (.462) with 3 Runs, a Double, 2 HRs, and 3 RBI.

Middle Infielder
Edgar Gonzalez
- San Diego’s Edgar Gonzalez went 8 for 18 (.444) last week with 6 Runs, a Double, 2 HRs, and 5 RBI.  He scored a Run and got a pair of Hits in each of his four games last week.  His 8 Hits were tied for the league lead last week.  He qualifies at 2B & 3B in Yahoo leagues.

Outfielder
Austin Kearns - Washington’s Austin Kearns parlayed his big Sunday Night (3 Hits, 5 Runs) into a spot on the FBWW.  For the week he was 6 of 14 (.429) with 6 Runs, 2 Doubles, 3 RBI, and a Walk.  His 6 Runs were tied for the league lead for the week.
