I decided to profile Hall of Famer Chick Hafey, who was enshrined by the Veteran’s Committee in 1971.

Played 1924 – 1937 (13 Seasons)
1283 Games
4625 At Bats
.317 Batting Average

Three 100+ Run Seasons
Five 30+ Double Seasons
One 10+ Triple Season
Three 100+ RBI Seasons

World Series:  2 Rings, 18 for 88 (.205), 5 Runs, 7 Doubles, 2 RBI, 2 Walks, 1 SB

1 All-Star Appearance
MVP Votes in 4 Seasons

Top Ten Finishes
Batting Average – 3 Times (1931 Batting Title)
On-Base % – Twice
Slugging % - 5 Times (Led league in 1927)
OPS - 5 Times
Runs - Twice
Doubles - 4 Times
HRs – 6 Times
Total Bases - 3 Times
Extra-Base Hits - 4 Times
RBI – 3 Times
Hit by Pitch - Once
Stolen Bases – Once

Hall of Fame Yardsticks:

Black Ink: Batting – 7 (305) (Average HOFer ≈ 27)
Gray Ink: Batting – 79 (294) (Average HOFer ≈ 144)
HOF Standards: Batting – 33.0 (213) (Average HOFer ≈ 50)
HOF Monitor: Batting – 69.0 (261) (Likely HOFer > 100)

Going by the numbers, I’m not seeing it.  His overall totals are far from Hall of Fame caliber.  He didn’t make up for it by being dominant for a small stretch.  The HOF Yardsticks are far from being met.  He didn’t play for the Giants, so that’s not how he got in.  Oh wait, Frankie Frisch played with Hafey from 1927-1931.  Now it’s starting to make sense.  Chick Hafey is another case of Frankie Frisch’s influence on getting merely above average players into the Hall of Fame.  How does Hafey merit induction while Andre Dawson is left twisting in the wind?  What a shame.

Great Research. It is apparent that because of guys like Frankie Frisch is the reason that the Veterans Committe was changed to what it is today,
The problem with todays committe is that they do not want to allow anyone else in.
You have listed many that should be enshrined starting with my first choices Ron Santo and Buck O’Niell, And about 20 others that you have reviewed,

Any chance you might start looking into the NFL and Canton OH?
I think that would be interesting also.
