The more I look at I’m starting to see your point Allen. In his era he was one of the most feared hitters. Would I like to see more HR, Runs, & RBIs, yes, but that was a different era.

The numbers are absolutely there, especially when most where complied in the pithcing era of the 60′s. It’s amazing in 2009 that someone, on a site like this one, could base an argument on statistics and use those offered here without pointing to more accurate, defining stats that account for league averages and ballparks. Allen’s adjusted OPS is 19th all-time, tied with Mays and ahead of Dimaggio, Aaron, Robinson. It’s not even close with respect to numbers. The story is well discussed re: how Allen has gotten a raw deal by (ironically) Bill James and others for being a clubhouse “cancer” when it couldn’t be further from the truth. Whoever authored this page, please do your homework next time, and get current on quantitative baseball analysis.

Five Hundred companies and other black head honchos,but much work needs to be done before total equality is achieved(see:Prof.Henry Louis Gates
vs. Cambridge,Mass. police;racist talk show hosts;Bill James,etc.)
Dick Allen is CERTAINLY a Hall Of Famer,but Ron Santo should be enshrined before Allen.Santo,as a GREAT hitting- and-fielding third
baseman(Allen was a MUCH BETTER hitter than Santo,but couldn’t carry Ron’s glove out to “the hot corner” as a fielder)is,to me,a better
all-around player than Allen.
