In my estimation, he was the best fielding 3rd basemen I've ever seen, and that includes Brooks Robinson and Clete Boyer. Nettles in his prime was ultra smooth on the routine plays, and consistently made spectacular plays. When starting double-plays, he could throw from any arm angle and make strong acurrate throws that helped complete the double play and kept his middle infielders out of harms way. He was spectacular on the big stage also, when he won a Yankees/Dodgers world series game with a few spectacular fielding plays.
