The Bulldog was amazing in 1985 & 1988.  That’s an understatement of epic proportions.  His scoreless streak is one of the most impressive individual records out there.  He was fabulous in 1989 but was snake-bitten (15-15 despite a 2.31 ERA).  I wouldn’t exactly say he had sustained greatness though.  If you take away his miraculous 1988 season I don’t even think it’s close.  As much as I loved Orel and what he brought to the game, I’m going to have to leave him short for Hall of Fame entrance.

same here, he falls a bit short… i was a huge, huge orel fan… in fact my “Orel” was my nickname on my very first softball team (The DeBevoise Clippers) after I threw shutouts in both ends of a doubleheader… oh, that and the fact that I’m tall, lanky, wear glasses, and am goofy looking… now that i think about it its not such a compliment.

He had Hall of Fame seasons, But not a hall Of Fame Career,
He is a Dodger Hall Of Famer.

Orel, Get this guy in the Hall. He got a lot of people interested in baseball at the time. Got a lot of people intersted in watching a lame Dogers team with no offense in the late 80′s. He also played the game right. I would have a hard time liking baseball today if it wasn’t for the Bulldog.

I’m glad he meant what he did to you Brook, but to me the HOF is about more than that. It’s about sustained greatness. Orel came up a little short in my book, but he should be in Dodger HOF.
