Fantasy Baseball Bounceback Players – Catchers
2009 was forgettable for these catchers. They should return to form in 2010 though.
Ryan Doumit, Pittsburgh Pirates
Doumit was limited to 75 games last year, and hit just .250. That’s a far cry from the .318 he hit in 2008. I don’t think he’s that good nor as bad as last year. A .280 average seems more his number. Doumit has played some 1B and RF in his brief career, so don’t be surprised if he plays more games than your average catcher.
Russell Martin, Los Angeles Dodgers
Martin hit just .250 last year. His numbers were down across the board. He’s just 27 though and averaged .286, 87 runs, 16 HRs, 78 RBIs, and 20 SBs in 2007 and 2008. His season debut could be delayed because of a groin injury, but he beefed up during the winter. Don’t write him off just yet.
Geovany Soto, Chicago Cubs
Soto was dreadful last year hitting .218 with 11 HRs and 47 RBIs after a .285, 23, 86 Rookie of the Year winning 2008. He’s in great shape after losing a ton of weight. Look for Soto to bounce back big time.
