Fantasy Baseball Bounceback Players – Catchers

Feb 27, 2009
Here’s a look at Catchers who should bounce back in 2009.

Victor Martinez
Víctor Martínez
- Víctor’s were way down even if you factored in him playing in just 73 games.  He had just 30 Runs, 2 HRs, and 35 RBI.  Let’s say you doubled that production to get 60 R, 4 HRs, and 70 RBI.  That’s a far cry from the 77.5 R, 21 HR, and 98.8 RBI he averaged in his four previous seasons.  I expect at least 70 Runs, 15 HRs, and 80 RBI from him in 2009.

Jorge Posada
- Jorge managed to play just 51 games after hitting a career high .338 in 2008.  His shoulder is feeling better and you can pencil him in for his usual 65+ Runs, 25+ Doubles, 20+ HRs, and 80+ RBI.

jason-varitek
Jason Varitek
- He’s not much of an offensive force, but he’s better than the .220, 37 R, 93 H, 43 RBI he produced last year.  He should bat 30 points higher with 20 more Runs, 10 more Hits, and 12 more RBI.

I’m starting to think Shoppach might be the C I want in Cleveland, rather than Martinez. It looks like Victor is losing to grip on the starting slot, slowly but surely….

Posada frightens me. That offense he’ll be in is good, but the injury factor is a massive downgrade in my book. He’s old, and off of arm surgery! But I suppose a full season would be a bounceback year, eh?

I think Victor will be playing plenty of 1st.

Yeah. Looking at the C’s there really wasn’t much to choose from but I think both of these guys have better 2009′s.

Varitek IS better than that and a nice bargain. Posada actually might have been a better hitter in ’07 than at any time in his illustrious career, he is more focused since his son’s cranial problems were resolved and his body is completely different than the heavy-legged Jorge. But who knows about the shoulder? If he’s your guy, you need a serious backup – perhaps Varitek?

Victor is a horse, no doubt, he will mash.

The young guys are coming on here with Martin, Doumit and Mauer might be the best player in the game, a strong armed catcher who has won 2 of last 3 Batting Titles.

Yeah, those old dogs are backups or taken after you stacked the rest of your lineup.
