Fantasy Baseball Box Score Breakouts – 4/8/10

Apr 9, 2010

Here’s a look at the unheralded players who played well yesterday.

Bronson Arroyo, Cincinnati Reds
Arroyo threw a gem, but earned a no-decision.He gave up 1 run on 4 hits in 8 Innings while striking out 6.

Brad Penny, St. Louis Cardinals
Penny also threw well. He gave up 1 run in 7 innings for a no-decision. After struggling with Boston last year, Penny finished strong in the NL with the Giants going 4-1 with a 2.59 ERA. Looks like that success carried over.

Reed Johnson, Los Angeles Dodgers
Reed went 3 for 4 with 2 runs in his first action of the year.

Ronnie Belliard, Los Angeles Dodgers
Belliard went 3 for 5 with 2 runs, a double, triple, HR, and 4 RBIs.

Ricky Romero, Toronto Blue Jays
Ricky gave up 1 run on 5 hits in 7 innings for a no-decision.

C.J. Wilson, Texas Rangers
Wilson threw 7 scoreless innings giving up 5 hits with 9 Ks. Unfortunately he also got a no-decision.

Scott Podsednik, Kansas City Royals
Pods continued his strong start going 4 for 5. He’s hitting .455 on the young season.

Dontrelle Willis, Detroit Tigers
Dontrelle shook off a couple of early runs to rebound nicely. He gave up 2 runs in a six-inning no-decision.

Brian Bannister, Kansas City Royals
Bannister also go a no-decision giving up 1 run in six innings.

Daric Barton, Oakland A’s
Barton went 3 for 4 with 4 RBIs.

Placido Polanco, Philadelphia Phillies
Polanco continued his torrid start going 2 for 5 with a run. He’s hitting .500 on the year.

Martin Prado, Atlanta Braves
Prado went 3 for 4 to raise his average to .583.

Randy Wells, Chicago Cubs
Wells tossed six scoreless innings to beat the Braves.

Nate Robertson, Florida Marlins
Nate gave up 1 run in five innings to beat the Mets.

Garrett Atkins, Baltimore Orioles
Atkins went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs to raise his average to .333.

Jim Thome, Minnesota Twins
Thome went 2 for 4 with 2 runs, a double, a HR, and 3 RBIs. Unless there is an injury, Thome isn’t really a fantasy option.

Delmon Young, Minnesota Twins
Young hit a pinch-hit 3-run HR. It’s good to see the power as he has 2 HRs and 6 RBIs already, but he will be out of the lineup occasionally to allow Thome to get ABs.

Potent Middle Relievers:
Neftali Feliz, Texas Rangers:  1 IP, 0 Runs, 3 Ks

Casey Janssen, Toronto Blue Jays:  1 IP, 0 Runs, 3 Ks
Jose Mijares, Minnesota Twins:  1 IP, 0 Runs, 2 Ks
Jesse Crain, Minnesota Twins:  1 IP, 0 Runs, 3 Ks
