Here’s a look at the unheralded players who played well yesterday.

 

Tom Gorzelanny, Chicago Cubs
Gorzelanny gave up 3 hits in 6-2/3 scoreless innings. He struck out 5 before leaving with a finger injury. He could miss his next start.

 

Alcides Escobar, Milwaukee Brewers
Escobar went 3 for 4 with 2 runs to raise his average to .248.

 

Steve Pearce, Pittsburgh Pirates
Pearce went 3 for 4 with a run and an RBI.  He’s now hitting .278.

 

Scott Rolen, Cincinnati Reds
Rolen went 3 for 5 with a run and 2 RBIs. He’s hitting .291 with 23 RBIs.

 

Kenshin Kawakami, Atlanta Braves
Kawakami got a no-decision despite holding the Reds to 5 hits in 6 scoreless innings. He struck out 5 as he lowered his ERA to 4.98.

 

Joe Saunders, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim
Saunders gave up 1 run on 4 hits in 7-2/3 innings as he improved to 3-5 with a 4.42 ERA.

 

Yuniesky Betancourt, Kansas City Royals
Betancourt went 1 for 5 with 3 RBIs. He’s hitting .273 with 15 RBIs.

 

John Jaso, Tampa Bay Rays
Jaso went 3 for 4 with 2 runs and 2 RBIs. He’s hitting .333 with 14 RBIs.

 

Jeff Keppinger, Houston Astros
Keppinger went 3 for 5 with 4 RBIs. He’s hitting .283 with 16 RBIs.

 

Anibal Sanchez, Florida Marlins
Sanchez held the Cardinals scoreless for 7 innings allowing 4 hits while striking out 8 to improve to 3-2 with a 3.28 ERA.

 

Cesar Izturis, Baltimore Orioles
Izturis went 3 for 4 with 3 RBIs. He’s hitting just .226.

 

Jeremy Guthrie, Baltimore Orioles
Guthrie got a no-decision despite holding the Rangers to 1 run over 6 innings. He lowered his ERA to 3.86.

 

Adam LaRoche, Arizona Diamondbacks

Chris Snyder, Arizona Diamondbacks
Snyder went 2 for 2 with 2 runs, a HR, and 3 RBIs. He’s hitting .235 with 21 RBIs.

Brett Cecil, Toronto Blue Jays
Cecil, one of my streaming options yesterday, gave up 2 runs in 6-1/3 innings to improve to 3-2 with a 4.98 ERA.
