Here’s a look at the unheralded players who played well yesterday.

 

Laynce Nix, Cincinnati Reds
Nix went 3 for 4 with 3 runs, a HR, and 2 RBIs. He’s hitting .260.

 

Hisanori Takahashi, New York Mets
Takahashi started his first MLB game and pitched well despite getting a no-decision. He held the Yankees scoreless through 6 innings while picking up 5 Ks and lowering his ERA to 2.53.

 

Jose Guillen, Kansas City Royals
Guillen went 2 for 2 with 2 HRs and 3 RBIs. He’s hitting .268 with 11 HRs and 31 RBIs.

 

Brian Bannister, Kansas City Royals
Bannister gave up 2 runs in 7-1/3 innings to improve to 3-3 with a 4.73 ERA.

 

Carlos Gomez, Milwaukee Brewers
Gomez held his own against his old team going 2 for 4 with a HR and 3 RBIs.  He’s hitting .288.

 

Delmon Young, Minnesota Twins
Young went 3 for 4 with 2 runs and 2 RBIs. He’s hitting .267 with 18 RBIs.

 

Edwin Encarnacion, Toronto Blue Jays (pictured)
Edwin went 3 for 4 with 3 HRs. He’s hitting .250 with 5 HRs and 11 RBIs.

 

Rajai Davis, Oakland A’s
Davis went 1 for 2 with 3 RBIs and a SB. He’s hitting .246 with 14 SBs.

 

Trevor Cahill, Oakland A’s
Cahill gave up 1 run in 6-2/3 IP to improve to 2-2 with a 3.68 ERA.

 

David Eckstein, San Diego Padres
Eckstein went 4 for 5 with 3 runs to bring his average up to .303.

 

Mike Sweeney, Seattle Mariners
Sweeney turned back the clock going 4 for 5 with 2 HRs and 6 RBIs. He’s hitting .276, but don’t expect games like this.

 

Milton Bradley, Seattle Mariners
Bradley went 3 for 5 with 2 runs. He’s a talented hitter when his head in on straight. So far so good.
