Here’s a look at the unheralded players who played well yesterday.

 

Austin Kearns, Cleveland Indians
Kearns went 1 ofr 3 with 3 RBIs. He’s hitting .343 with 15 RBIs on the year.

 

Francisco Cervelli, New York Yankees
Cervelli went 3 for 4 with 5 RBIs. He’s hitting .429 with 12 RBIs.

 

Placido Polanco, Philadelphia Phillies
Polanco went 3 for 4. He’s cooled after his hot start, but got his average back to .295.

 

Ben Sheets, Oakland A’s
Sheets gave up 2 runs on 4 hits in 6-1/3 innings to improve to 2-3 with a 6.38 ERA. He had 8 strikeouts.

 

Jon Garland, San Diego Padres
Garland threw 7 scoreless innings allowing 2 hits to improve to 4-2 with a 1.71 ERA.

 

Felipe Paulino, Houston Astros
Paulino took the loss to fall to 0-5, but gave up 1 earned run in 7 innings with 11 Ks.

 

Jeff Karstens, Pittsburgh Pirates
Karstens threw 6 scoreless innings allowing 3 hits to improve to 1-1 with a 4.08 ERA.

 

Jamie Garcia, St. Louis Cardinals
Jamie took the loss, but he gave up just 1 run in 6 innings with 7 Ks. He’s now 3-2 with a 1.18 ERA.

 

Jonny Gomes, Cincinnati Reds
Gomes went 3 for 4 with a run and 3 RBIs. He’s hitting .266 with 18 RBIs.

 

Drew Stubbs, Cincinnati Reds
Stubbs went 2 for 4 with 2 runs, 3 RBIs, and a SB. He’s hitting just .188, but has 8 SBs.

 

Ryan Hanigan, Cincinnati Reds
Hanigan went 3 for 5 with a Grand Slam and 5 RBIs. He’s hitting .409 with 15 RBIs.

 

Aaron Harang, Cincinnati Reds
Harang gave up 2 runs in 6-2/3 IP with 9 Ks to improve to 2-4 with a 6.02 ERA.

 

Tom Gorzelanny, Chicago Cubs
Gorzelanny gave up 3 runs in 6 innings with 9 Ks to take the loss. He’s now 1-4 with a 2.83 ERA.


Jody Gerut, Milwaukee Brewers
Gerut hit for the cycle. He was 4 for 6 with 3 runs and 4 RBIs. He’s hitting just .222.
