Here’s a look at the unheralded players who played well yesterday.

 

Jamie Moyer, Philadelphia
Proving that age is just a number Moyer gave up 1 run on 2 hits with 5 Ks in 8 innings to improve to improve to 8-6 with a 4.43 ERA.

 

A.J. Pierzynski, Chicago White Sox
A.J. went 3 for 4 with 2 runs and 2 RBIs to raise his average to .252. He is 8 for his last 15 (.533).

 

Tommy Hunter, Texas Rangers
Hunter, yesterday’s streaming pitcher option, gave up 2 earned runs in 6 innings with 6 Ks to improve to 3-1 with a 2.31 ERA.

 

Jhoulys Chacin, Colorado Rockies
Chacin gave up 4 hits in 6-2/3 scoreless innings against the Red Sox to improve to 4-6 with a 3.56 ERA.

 

Bronson Arroyo, Cincinnati Reds
Arroyo gave up 2 runs on 5 hits in 8 innings to improve to 7-3 with a 4.35 ERA. He’s 6-1 since late April.

 

Jason Vargas, Seattle Mariners (pictured)
Vargas threw 7 scoreless innings allowing 4 hits with 7 Ks to improve to 6-2 with a 2.66 ERA.  He has given up just 17 runs in his last ten starts.
