Here’s a look at the unheralded players who played well yesterday.

 

Coco Crisp, Oakland A’s
Crisp went 3 for 4 with 2 runs and 2 SBs to raise his average to .414. He’s playing extremely well hitting leadoff for the A’s.

 

Vin Mazzaro, Oakland A’s
Mazzaro gave up 1 run on 3 hits to improve to 3-2 with a 4.25 ERA.

 

Alberto Gonzalez, Washington Nationals
Gonzalez went 4 for 4 for a run and an RBI. He’s hitting .292. He’s got steady at bats the past three games, but isn’t worth a roster spot.

 

Wilson Valdez, Philadelphia Phillies
Valdez, filling in at second base for Utley, went 2 for 4 with a HR and 4 RBIs. He’s hitting .252 with 19 RBIs.

 

Felipe Lopez, St. Louis Cardinals
Lopez went 4 for 5 with 3 runs (22) to raise his average to .265. He has a hit in seven of his last eight games.

 

Clint  Barmes, Colorado Rockies (pictured)
Barmes, filling in for Tulo at SS, went 2 for 4 with 2 runs, a HR (6) and 4 RBIs (38). He’s hitting just .242, but is 11 for 27 (.407) with 6 runs, 2 HRs, and 7 RBIs during his current seven-game hitting streak.

 

Wade LeBlanc, San Diego Padres
LeBlanc took the loss despite giving up 3 runs on 2 hits in 6-1/3 innings with 8 Ks. He fell to 4-6 with a 3.25 ERA.

 

John Ely, Los Angeles Dodgers
Ely gave up 1 run on 5 hits with 5 Ks in 7 innings to improve to 4-5 with a 3.62 ERA. After getting lit up in three successive starts, he has allowed just two earned runs in his past two starts (14 innnings).
