Here’s a look at the unheralded players who played well yesterday.


Jose Tabata, Delwyn Young, & Pedro Alvarez, Pittsburgh Pirates
This trio was the driving force behind the Pirates’ 15-run explosion. Tabata set the stage going 2 for 4 with 3 runs (20) and an RBI. He has really taken to the leadoff spot. Young went 3 for 4 with 2 runs, a HR, and 5 RBIs. He only started because Andrew McCutchen was out. Alvarez went 3 for 5 with 3 runs (15), 2 HRs (7), and 3 RBIs (20). He’s hitting .259 in 108 ABs. He’s 13 for 32 (.406) in his last eight games with eight runs, 5 HRs, and 10 RBIs.

Jerry Hairston, Jr., San Diego Padres
Jerry went 3 for 6 with a run (35), RBI (36), and SB (7) to raise his average to .256. He is 10 for 25 (.400) in his last six games with 6 runs and 5 RBIs.
