Fantasy Baseball Box Score Breakouts – 7/7/10

Jul 8, 2010

Here’s a look at the unheralded players who played well yesterday.

Max Scherzer, Detroit Tigers
Scherzer even his record at 6-6 after allowing 1 run in 7 innings with 7 Ks. He lowered his ERA to 4.61. Scherzer has allowed 3 runs in his last four starts (27-2/3 IP).

Bronson Arroyo, Cincinnati Reds
Arroyo gave up 1 run in 8 innings to improve to 9-4 with a 4.04 ERA. He is 4-1 in his last five starts with a 2.11 ERA.

Darnell McDonald, Boston Red Sox
McDonald went 3 for 5 with a run (20) and an RBI (21) raising his average to .268. He has just 2 runs and 2 RBIs in his past ten games so there are better options on the waiver wire.

Colby Lewis, Texas Rangers
Lewis gave up 2 earned runs in 6 innings with 8 Ks to improve to 8-5 with a 3.33 ERA. He’s 4-1 in his last six starts with a 2.85 ERA.

Andres Torres, San Francisco Giants
Torrest went 2 for 5 with a HR (5) and 3 RBIs (27) to raise his average to .278. He has scored a run in the past nine games that he got an at bat.

Freddy Sanchez, San Francisco Giants
Sanchez went 2 for 6 with a run (22) and 3 RBIs (24). He’s hitting .285 with a five-game hitting streak.

Buster Posey, San Francisco Giants (pictured)
Posey is showing he’s the real deal. Yesterday he went 4 for 4 with 3 runs (18), 2 HRs (5), one of which was a Grand Slam, and 6 RBIs (19) to raise his average to .331. He has done all of this damage in just 34 games (121 ABs).

Edgar Renteria, San Francisco Giants
Renteria went 3 for 5 with 2 runs  and an RBI. He’s hitting .304, but offers little help to fantasy owners.

Felipe Lopez, St. Louis Cardinals
Lopez continue his hot hitting going 3 for 5 with a run (28). He is hitting .439 in his past ten games.

Dexter Fowler, Colorado Rockies
Fowler went 1 for 4 with 2 runs, a HR, and 3 RBIs. His overall numbers aren’t great, but he’s riding a six-game hitting streak at a .480 clip. He has scored 11 runs during that stretch.

Aramis Ramirez, Chicago Cubs
Ramirez went 2 for 5 with 2 runs, a HR (9), and 3 RBIs (30). He’s hitting just .189, but he has got a hit in nine of his last ten games.

Mike Stanton, Florida Marlins
Stanton went 1 for 4 with a HR (4) and 3 RBIs (19). He has 2 HRs and 6 RBIs in his past two games.

Doug Fister, Seattle Mariners
Fister, yesterday’s streaming option, got a no-decision despite giving just 1 run in 6 innings. He’s 3-4 with a 3.09 ERA.

Freddy Garcia, Chicago White Sox
Garcia gave up 1 unearned run with 6 Ks in 6 innings to improve to 9-3 with a 4.36 ERA. He’s 6-0 in his last eight starts with a 3.25 ERA.
