Fantasy Baseball Box Score Breakouts – 8/16/10

Here’s a look at the unheralded players who played well yesterday.

 

James McDonald, Pittsburgh Pirates
McDonald gave up one run on three hits with six strikeouts in seven innings to improve to 2-2 with a 4.26 ERA. McDonald is 2-1 with a 2.55 ERA since coming over from the Dodgers.

 

Max Scherzer, Detroit Tigers
Scherzer gave up two hits with six strikeouts in six scoreless innings to improve to 8-9 with a 3.86 ERA. He’s 1-1 with a 1.37 ERA in his last four starts, which is even more impressive considering he faced the Red Sox, White Sox, Rays, and Yankees during that stretch.

 

Jonathon Niese, New York Mets
Niese gave up one run in seven innings, but got a no-decision. He has actually allowed one run over seven innings in each his last three starts without earning a decision. On the year he’s 7-5 with a 3.38 ERA.

 

Miguel Tejada & Chris Denorfia, San Diego Padres
Tejada went four for five with two runs and 2 RBIs to raise his average to .276. Miggy is 15 for 35 (.429) with eight runs in his last eight games. Denorfia went three for five with two runs and 2 RBIs to raise his average to .287. He his 12 for 24 with eight runs in his last eight games.

 

Kevin Correia, San Diego Padres
Correia struck out five in six scoreless innings as he improved to 10-7 with a 4.63 ERA. He is 3-0 with a 2.00 ERA in his past three starts.

 

Jose Molina, Toronto Blue Jays
Molina went four for four to raise his average to .270. John Buck will be returning from the DL soon so don’t rush out and grab this Molina.

Henry Rodriguez, OAK:  1 IP, 0 Runs, 2 Ks (12 Ks, 13 IP)
