Here’s a look at the unheralded players who played well yesterday.

 

Marco Scutaro, Boston Red Sox
Scutaro went 2 for 4 with a run (73) and 4 RBIs (44) to raise his average to .276. He’s 9 for 19 (.474) with 5 runs in  his last five games and 15 for for 39 (.385) with 9 runs and 7 RBIs in his last ten games.

 

Ryan Raburn & Jhonny Peralta, Detroit Tigers
Raburn went 3 for 4 with 2 runs (29) and 3 RBIs (38) to raise his average to .243. He has hit .286 in August. Peralta went 2 for 2 with a run (45) and 3 RBIs (57) to raise his average to .239.

 

Jose Tabata, Pittsburgh Pirates
Tabata went 3 for 4 with a stolen base (13) to raise his average to .306. He is 11 for 23 (.478) in his past seven games.

 

Joe Blanton, Philadelphia Phillies
Blanton got a no-decision despite giving up 1 run on 6 hits with 9 Ks in 7 innings. He’s 1-0 with 16 Ks and a 1.35 ERA in his past two starts.

 

Blake DeWitt & Casey Coleman, Chicago Cubs
DeWitt went 3 for 5 with a HR (4) and 3 RBIs (42) to raise his average to .284. He’s got a current five-game hitting streak going. Coleman gave up 1 run on 3 hits in 6-1/3 innings to earn his first career victory. He’s not worth looking at just yet.

 

Rich Harden, Texas Rangers
Harden gave up five walks in 6-2/3 innings of no-hit scoreless baseball. He improved to 5-4 with a 5.00 ERA. He’s 2-0 in his last three starts with a 2.20 ERA.

 

Todd Helton, Colorado Rockies
Helton went 4 for 4 with a run and 2 RBIs to raise his average to .257. He’s no longer a fantasy option.

 

Freddy Sanchez, San Francisco Giants
Sanchez went 4 for 5 with 2 RBIs (31) to raise his average to .269. He’s 9 for 21 (.429) in  his last five games.
