Here’s a look at the unheralded players who played well yesterday.

 

Drew Stubbs, Cincinnati Reds
Stubbs went 3 for 4 with 2 runs (56), a HR (14), and 2 RBIs (51). He’s worth owning if you can stomach his .234 average.

 

Lyle Overbay & J.P. Arencibia, Toronto Blue Jays
Overbay went 1 for 5 with a HR (13) and 3 RBIs (45). He’s hitting .249). Arencibia made a big splash in his MLB debut going 4 for 5 with 3 runs, 2 HRs, and 3 RBIs. He’s only expected to have a cup of coffee while John Buck is on the DL.

 

Coco Crisp & Gio Gonzalez, Oakland A’s
Crisp went 2 for 2 with 2 runs, a HR, and 3 RBIs. He’s hitting .250. Gonzalez gave up 4 hits in 7 scoreless innings to improve to 10-7 with a 3.51 ERA.

 

Alberto Callaspo, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim
Callaspo went 3 for 4 with a run and an RBI to raise his average to .280. He has a hit in nine of his last ten games.

 

Jake Westbrook, St. Louis Cardinals
Westbrook got a no-decision despite giving up 3 runs in 7 innings with 9 Ks. He has given up 5 runs with 16 Ks in 13 innings in his two starts since joining the Cardinals.

 

Bruce Chen, Kansas City Royals
