Fantasy Baseball Free Agent Pool – 2010 Speed Demons Vol. 1

Apr 27, 2010

Just because you’ve slipped behind in the Stolen Base category doesn’t mean you can’t catch up.  Here are some reasonably available SB threats.

Brett Gardner, OF, New York Yankees
Gardner is making the most of his increased playing time by hitting .327 with 12 runs and 5 RBIs. What has fantasy owners smiling though is the 9 SBs he’s posted. Gardner is owned in 87.9 percent of ESPN and 48 percent of CBS leagues.

Carlos Gomez, OF, Milwaukee Brewers
Consistency is a problem for Gomez. If he can get on, it’s likely he’ll steal. He’s got that kind of speed. He has 6 SBs on the year despite platooning with Jim Edmonds. Gomez is hitting .273 with 12 runs, a HR, and 3 RBIs. He’s owned in 9.3 percent of ESPN and 29 percent of CBS leagues.

Everth Cabrera, SS, San Diego Padres
Cabrera has 4 SBs despite a sorry .209 average. He also has just 4 runs. His saving grace, other than the SBs, is the 11 RBIs he’s produced. Everth is owned in 72.3 percent of ESPN and 42 percent of CBS leagues.

Ronny Cedeno, 2B/SS, Pittsburgh Pirates
Cedeno has 4 SBs on the year for Pittsburgh. He’s hitting .242 with 5 Runs, 1 HR, and 5 RBIs. Ronny is owned in 1.6 percent of ESPN and 6 percent of CBS leagues.

Adam Kennedy, 1B/2B/3B, Washington Nationals
Kennedy has 4 SBs on the year. He’s struggled elsewhere though hitting .212 with 4 runs, 0 HRs, and 9 RBIs. Adam is owned in just 1.5 percent of ESPN and 14 percent of CBS leagues.

Drew Stubbs, OF, Cincinnati Reds
Stubbs has 4 SBs on the year while hitting a mere .158. He’s added 11 runs, a HR, and 6 RBIs. It’s hard to justify his average even if you’re in a pinch for SBs. Drew is owned in 7.8 percent of ESPN and 39 percent of CBS leagues.

Will Venable, OF, San Diego Padres
Venable also has 4 SBs on the year. He’s hitting .250 with 14 runs, 4 HRs, and 11 RBIs making him an attractive bench option. Will is owned in 10.4 percent of ESPN and 44 percent of CBS leagues.
