Fantasy Baseball Free Agent Pool – Speed Demons

Just because you’ve slipped behind in the Stolen Base category doesn’t mean you can’t catch up.  Here are some reasonably available SB threats.

Julio Borbon, OF, Texas Rangers – Borbon did a Carl Crawford impersonation by swiping four bases against the Red Sox.  He has started his career red hot going 9 for 21 (.429) with 5 SBs, 5 Runs, and 3 RBIs.  He’s owned in 8% of Yahoo!, 0.7% of ESPN, and 10% of CBS leagues.

Elvis Andrus, SS, Texas Rangers – Elvis had 3 SBs in the same game against the Red Sox.  For the week he was 9 for 252 (.360) with 3 SBs, 5 Runs, 1 HR, and 3 RBIs.  On the year he’s hitting .269 with 23 SBs, 48 Runs, 5 H Rs, and 22 RBIs.  He’s owned in 27% of Yahoo!, 55.8% of ESPN, and 41% of CBS leagues.

Cliff Pennington, 2B/3B/SS, Oakland A’s – Cliff had 2 SBs last week while hitting .353 (6 for 17) with a Run and an RBI.  On the year he’s hitting .298 with 3 SBs, 6 Runs, 1 HR, and 6 RBIs in 57 At Bats.  He’s owned in 5% of Yahoo!, 0.3% of ESPN, and 5% of CBS leagues.

Everth Cabrera, SS, San Diego Padres
- Everth had 2 SBs last week while hitting .296 (8 for 27) with 3 Runs and 3 RBIs.  On the year he’s hitting .268 with 17 SBs, 33 Runs, 2 HRs, and 23 RBIs.  He’s owned in 24% of Yahoo!, 4% of ESPN, and 29% of CBS leagues.

Matt Diaz, OF, Atlanta Braves - Matt picked up 2 SBs last week while hitting .267 (4 for 15) with 3 Runs, 1 HR, and 1 RBI.  On the year he’s hitting .291 with 8 SBs, 37 Runs, 7 HRs, and 32 RBIs.  He’s owned in 3% of Yahoo!, 1.8% of ESPN, and 2% of CBS leagues.

    Ryan, I love Borbon, Andrus & Cabrera as cheap sources of speed from here on out (in fact, I own Borbon & Andrus in my keeper league). Andrus & Cabrera would be a little higher on my list, only because they are guaranteed everyday AB at this point, since they’ve been getting them.

    If Borbon does earn regular playing time and becomes a fixture atop that line-up, he could be a real steal coming down the stretch. Keep your eye on that.

    thanks for the insight professor. Andrus and Cabrera have been fixtures on these lists. Not sure why they aren’t getting more play.
