Fantasy Baseball Free Agent Pool – Strikeout Kings

Some reasonably available players to assist you in the Strikeouts category.  Realize that some of these will come with high ERAs & WHIPs because if a Pitcher has low numbers in those categories and a good K total, they’re already spoken for.  Some of these guys are middle relievers, who can help you pick up case if you are beginning to max out in Innings Pitched.

Wade Davis, Tampa Bay Rays – Wade had 16 Ks in 14-2/3 (9.8 K/9) Innings last week while going 1-0 with a 1.23 ERA and 0.95 WHIP.  On the year he’s 1-1 with 28 Ks (24-1/3 IP) with a 4.07 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP.  He’s owned in 38% of Yahoo! Plus, 9% of of Yahoo! Public, 4.6% of ESPN, and 32% of CBS Sportsline leagues.

Anibal Sanchez, Florida Marlins – Sanchez had 14 Ks in 13 Innings (9.7 K/9) last week while going 1-1 with a 2.08 ERA and a 0.92 WHIP.  On the year he’s 3-7 with 64 Ks (74 IP), a 4.01 ERA, and a 1.53 WHIP.  He’s owned in 17% of Yahoo! Plus, 4% of of Yahoo! Public, 3.7% of ESPN, and 30% of CBS Sportsline leagues.

Chris Narveson, Milwaukee Brewers – Chris had 13 Ks in 10-2/3 Innings (11 K/9) while going 1-0 with a 1.69 ERA and a 0.94 WHIP.  On the year he’s 2-0 with 37 Ks (37-2/3 IP), a 3.82 ERA, and a 1.30 WHIP.  He’s owned in 3% of Yahoo! Plus, less than 1% of of Yahoo! Public and ESPN, and 1% of CBS Sportsline leagues.

Bud Norris, Houston Astros – Bud had 11 Ks in 11 Innings (9 K/9) while going 1-0 with a 0.82 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP.  On the year he’s 6-3 with 54 Ks (55-2/3 IP), a 4.53 ERA, and a 1.51 WHIP.  He’s owned in 13% of Yahoo! Plus, 3% of of Yahoo! Public, 1.9% of ESPN, and 27% of CBS Sportsline leagues.

Tom Gorzelanny, Chicaco Cubs – Tom had 10 Ks in 5-2/3 Innings (15.9 K/9) while going 1-0 with a 6.35 ERA, and a 1.59 WHIP.  On the year he’s 6-2 with 39 Ks (39 IP), a 5.08 ERA, and a 1.18 WHIP.  He’s owned in 6% of Yahoo! Plus, 2% of of Yahoo! Public, 0.4% of ESPN, and 13% of CBS Sportsline leagues.

    Narveson really is the wild card of this group for me. He’s shown the potential to register a K/inning, but he had an ERA over 5 at Triple-A last season. He may have 2 starts over the final week, which will really help show if he could be a usable option if he earns a rotation spot in 2010.
