Fantasy Baseball: Gordon Beckham Heating Up

Jun 5, 2012

.
Chicago White Sox second baseman Gordon  Beckham as a hit in his past ten games (14 of past 15) as his average has raised from .204 to .237. Obviously .237 isn’t cutting it, but he’s hitting .333 during his ten-game hitting streak.
.
Beckham has also scored ten of his 28 runs, hit three of his eight home runs, and knocked in eight of his 22 RBI during the hit streak.
.
There is reason to believe that he could continue to improve on his average. Beckham has always struggled against left-handed pitching, but his .163 mark is even ridiculously low for him. His .513 OPS against southpaws is also well off pace.
.
Plus, July has been by far his best month over his career. It’s the only month that he has hit above .250, shattering that mark with a .325 average and .860 OPS.
.
Plus, despite his recent success he has been unlucky this year posting a .248 BABIP. Last year he was at .276 and lifetime he is at .282.
.
Beckham’s career high is 14 home runs. With eight through 54 games he could easily top that mark. He is on pace to hit 24 home runs, score 84 runs, and drive in another 66, which be career highs across the board.
.
Beckham is owned in 36.6 percent of ESPN and 21.0 percent of Yahoo! fantasy leagues. If you’re looking for a little pop out of your middle infielder slot, Gordon is worth a look. If he starts to go cold, feel free to jump off the train, but until then ride him while he’s hot.
