Fantasy Baseball Injury News: Ryan Zimmerman and Rafael Furcal Out

Apr 12, 2011

An abdominal strain landed Ryan Zimmerman on the disabled list. It will be impossible to replace his average, home run, and RBI production. Zimmerman was hitting .357 with five runs, a home run, and four RBI. Here are some options that can help soften the blow:

  • Alberto Callaspo, LAA:  .353, five runs, two HRs, five RBI
  • Placido Polanco, PHI:  .342, six runs, eight RBI
  • Maicer Izturis, LAA:  .325, four runs, one HR, five RBI, two SBs
  • Chipper Jones, ATL:  .297, two runs, six RBI
  • Scott Rolen, CIN:  .265, nine runs, two HR, ten RBI
  • Brent Morel, CHW:  .263, six runs, six RBI, one SB
  • Jack Hannahan, CLE:  .250, seven runs, two HRs, six RBI
  • Chase Headley, SD:  .250, three runs, one HR, seven RBI

Not surprisingly, Rafael Furcal was hurt again. This time he broke his thumb. Knowing this comes with the territory with Furcal, you may have already secured a good backup. If not, here are some possible options:

  • Yunel Escobar, TOR:  .458, six runs, one HR, five RBI, one SB
  • Jamey Carroll, LAD:  .393, two runs, one RBI, one SB
  • Willie Bloomquist, ARI:  .368, eight runs, one HR, five RBI, six SBs
  • Jhonny Peralta, DET:  .344, four runs, one HR, four RBI
  • Angel Sanchez, HOU:  .342, eight runs, one HR, six RBI, one SB
  • Asdrubal Cabrera, CLE:  .317, eight runs, four HRs, ten RBI, one SB
  • Danny Espinosa, WAS:  .280, six runs, one HR, five RBI
  • Miguel Tejada, SD:  .270, four runs, one HR, five RBI
  • Alex Gonzalez, ATL:  .250, five runs, one HR, two RBI
  • Ryan Theroit, STL:  .250, three runs, four RBI, two SBs

my Nats will probably use Hairston/ Cora as a replacement

should be good for a few errors, a .170 batting average with a run scored and no RBI’s in the 2 weeks
