Fantasy Baseball Players of the Day – 3/25 & 3/26

It’s ridiculous that the Red Sox and A’s have to play this early, but it was nice to watch some baseball in the morning before work.  There is no doubt who the star of the season opener was…Manny Ramirez.
ManRam went 2 for 5 with a pair of doubles, 4 RBI and a run scored.

As far as pitching goes, the star was Daisuke Matsuzaka.  Dice K shook off a rough start to go five innings.  He allowed two runs on 2 hits.  He struck out six while walking five.  His ERA was 3.60 and his WHIP was 1.17.  It would have been nice for him to get the win in front of his countrymen, but he had to settle for the no-decision.  Fellow Japanese star Hideki Okajima picked up the win.

Since they play so early, I can actually bring you today’s Players of the Day as well.  Offensively the star of the day was Emil Brown.  His third inning three-run home run blew the game open.  It was his only hit of four at bats, but it was enough.  Mike Sweeney, Kurt Suzuki, and Mike Lowell each had a pair of hits.  Manny hit his 1st home run of the season (his 5th RBI).

There’s no question who the best pitcher was today.  It was Oakland starter Rich Harden.  He baffled Red Sox hitters for six innings allowing one run on three hits.  He struck out nine batters and walked three.  His ERA was 1.50 and his WHIP was 0.83.

Harden has always had electric stuff… if only he could stay healthy… i’ve made mistakes in drafting him early the past few years and having him spend more time on the disabled list then on the mound. i’m interested to see how mike sweeney looks early on… he could be a nice pickup
