Fantasy Baseball Players of the Day – 4/6
Sunday, April 6th
Gerald Laird blew up on Sunday night. He went 4 for 5 with three runs, 2 HRs, and 6 RBI. Joe Crede matched him with 4 hits of his own. Ryan Braun, Hideki Matsui, Luis Rivas, Nate McLouth, Chris Gomez, Jeff Keppinger, Brandon Phillips, Raul Ibanz, Luke Scott, and Billy Butler each had three hits. Frank Thomas hit a Grand Slam. Carlso Quentin also drove in 4 runs.
On the mound Ben Sheets was the best of the best. When he’s healthy, he’s one of the very best. Yesterday was no different. All he did was throw a complete game shutout allowing 5 hits, striking out 8, and not issuing a walk. Felix Hernandez should have finished his as his 8 innings of shutout ball (5 hits, 2 walks, 6 K’s) were blown by two relievers. Chien-Ming Wang gave the Yankees 6 shutout innings. He allowed 4 hits and 2 walks while striking out 6. Ian Snell threw 6 strong innings striking out 10 Marlins. He allowed 4 hits and 1 earned run. Johan Santana pitched well (7 innings, 1 run), but lost to John Smoltz (5 shutout innings, 6 Ks). Kyle Loshe threw 7 more shutout innings (bringing his season total to 12). Carlos Zambrano pitched seven strong innings allowing 2 runs while striking out 7. Franklin Morales fired 6 shutout innings allowing just 2 hits. Cliff Lee allowed just 1 unearned run in 6-2/3 innings. He struck out 4. The other Chris Young allowed just 2 runs and 5 hits in 7 innings of work while racking up 8 Ks. Mark Buehrle allowed 2 runs in 7 innings.
