Fantasy Baseball: The Stream Team

Jun 8, 2011

.
Here’s a look at some pitchers that are reasonably available and have quietly been productive.
.
Winning!:  Kevin Correia, Pittsburgh Pirates
Who would have ever imagined that on June 7th only Roy Halladay, Jon Lester, and Yovani Gallardo would have as many wins (eight) as Correia? His ERA (3.64) and WHIP (1.25) are solid, but not spectacular. His strikeout total (37) is almost comical. You can’t fault his results though.
.
Winning?:  Jake Arrieta, Baltimore Orioles
Arrieta has a 4.93 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP yet he finds himself among the league leaders with seven wins. He’s allowed three or more runs in over half his starts, but at the end of the day he earns the victory.
.
The Strikeout Artist:  Bud Norris, Houston Astros
Norris is among the league leaders with 79 strikeouts. He has racked up six or more strikeouts in nine of his twelve starts. Norris has just three wins, a 3.95 ERA, and a 1.34 WHIP.
.
The Strikeout Maker:  Scott Baker, Minnesota Twins
Baker also has just three wins and has a similar ERA (3.86) and WHIP (1.30) as Norris. He’s also picked up 71 Ks on the year. He has six or more strikeouts in seven of his starts.
.
WHIP it Good:  Philip Humber, Chicago White Sox
Humber has a 0.98 WHIP to go along with five wins, a 2.87 ERA, and a mere 43 strikeouts. He’s only issued 17 free passes in 75-1/3 innings so control is the name of the game.
.
WHIP Cream:  Josh Tomlin, Cleveland Indians
The wheels have come off recently (8.00 ERA over past three starts), but he has seven wins, a 3.71 ERA, 44 strikeouts, and most importantly a 0.99 WHIP.
.
The Low E.R.A.:  Charlie Morton, Pittsburgh Pirates
Morton doesn’t get much glory, but it’s easy to be pleased with his 2.52 ERA over 75 innings. Throw in six wins, 42 strikeouts, and a 1.35 ERA and you have a productive pitcher that is only owned in about a third of fantasy leagues.
.
Mo’ Low E.R.A.:  Dustin Moseley, San Diego Padres
Moseley has a 3.00 ERA over 72 innings. Though he has just two wins and 34 strikeouts, his ERA and 1.26 WHIP are useful to fantasy owners. He has allowed two or fewer earned runs in nine of his twelve starts.
