Fantasy Baseball Weekly Wonders Vol. 1
A look back at the past week in baseball to bring you the surprising stars.
Joakim Soria – I easily could have went with rookie Johnny Cueto following his strong debut, but who would have guessed a Royals closer would have three saves this early, especially opening against Detroit. He pitched four innings without allowing a run. His WHIP sits at 0.50 as he allowed just two hits. He struck out 7 without walking a batter.
Ryan Doumit – Doumit has started off the season with a bang going 9 for 20 (.450) with 4 runs, 1 HR, and 2 RBI. I could have went with Gerald Laird based on his .313, 4 runs, 2 HR, 6 RBI, but all of that damage came in one game.
Kevin Millar – Somebody must have convinced Millar that it’s 2004 again, as he’s off to a great start. He’s 7 for 18 (.389) with 6 runs, 2 Doubles, 1 HR, 3 RBI, and 3 Walks.
Jeff Keppinger – Keppinger is off to a solid start at short for the Reds. He’s hitting .435 (10 for 23) with 6 runs, 3 doubles, 2 HR, and 4 RBI. He has a pair of three hit games already.
Gabe Kapler – Another former Red Sox is off to a hot start. He went 7 for 16 (.438) for Milwaukee while filling in for Mike Cameron, who is serving a 25 game suspension. He has 4 runs, 2 HR, and 6 RBI. His value will be destroyed when Cameron returns, so use him while you can.
