Fantasy Baseball Weekly Wonders Vol. 11
Ricky Nolasco - Florida’s Ricky Nolasco picked up a couple of wins last week going 14-2/3 Innings with a 1.23 ERA and a 0.82 WHIP with 15 Ks. His 8-2/3 Inning gem last night when he scatterd 6 Hits allowing 2 Earned Runs with 12 Ks help put him over the top. He did allow four additional unearned runs, but they don’t hurt his stats (or fantasy owners for that matter).
Kelly Shoppach - With Victor Martinez on the mend, Kelly has stepped in and delivered like Victor Martinez. Fortunately for the Tribe, I’m referring to the 2007 edition of Mr. Martinez. Kelly went 6 for 21 (.286) with 6 Runs, a Double, 3 HRs, 7 RBI, and 2 Walks. With numbers like that, Victor Martinez won’t be getting any “Get Well Soon” card from his teammates.
Ronnie Belliard- Washington’s Ronnie Belliard played mostly Third Base last week as Ryan Zimmerman is out with a shoulder injury. Last week he went 8 for 24 (.333) with 3 Runs, 4 Doubles, 2 HRs, 6 RBI, and 4 Walks. Not bad for a guy who didn’t play for almost a month.
Mike Aviles - What’s with all of the Kansas City Royals in this series? I guess anytime they have success it comes as a surprise. That’s not meant to be the slap in the face to the Royals as it sounds, but more as a sad statement that describes one of baseball’s best baseball towns that is having a hard time competing in today’s baseball climate. Enough of the diatribe, let’s see what Aviles did to make this prestigious list. He went 11 of 27 (.407) with 8 Runs, 3 Doubles, 2 HRs, 4 RBI, a Walk, and a SB.
Jason Kubel - Anytime a Twin not named Justin Morneau hits multiple HRs in a week it should come as a surprise. Kubel found some success last week going 9 of 24 (.375) with 6 Runs, a Double, 3 HRs, 6 RBI, and 2 Walks.
