Fantasy Baseball Weekly Wonders Vol. 19

Aug 11, 2008

Here is a a look back at the past week in baseball to bring you the surprising stars.

Pitcher
Jeff Karstens - Karstens has exploded on the scene in Pittsburgh since arriving from the Yankees in the Xavier Nady deal.  All he’s done is throw fifteen consecutive scoreless Innings going 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA and a 0.80 WHIP.  He threw a two-hit Shutout vs. Arizona.

Catcher
Chris Snyder
- It was a slow week for Catchers, but Arizona’s Chris Snyder tied for second among backstops in RBI last week.  He went 3 for 13 (.231) with 3 Runs, a Double, a HR, 4 RBI, and 4 Walks.

Corner Infielder
Geoff Blum - Houston’s Geoff Blum did some raking last week going 5 for 13 (.385) with 5 Runs, a Double, 2 HRs, and 4 RBI in limited action.  As a bonus he qualifies at 2B, 3B, and SS in Yahoo leagues.

Middle Infielder
Jolbert Cabrera
- Cincinnati’s Jolbert Cabrera joins the mix.  Last week he went 5 for 12 (.417) with 5 Runs, a Double, a HR, an RBI, 2 Walks, an a SB.  In Yahoo leagues he qualifies at 2B & SS.  Plu, he played in the OF over the weekend.

Outfielder
Marlon Byrd - I think it’s a law that every Texas player needs to be a FBWW this season.  The latest to join the club is Marlon Byrd.  He destroyed opposing pitching last week to the tune of 16 for 28 (.571) with 9 Runs, 4 Doubles, 2 HRs, 8 RBI, 3 Walks, and 2 SBs.  Not only did he hit in all but one game last week, he had multiple hits in each of those six games.
