Aug 18, 2008

Here is a a look back at the past week in baseball to bring you the surprising stars.

Chris Pérez - The Cardinal Rookie made the most of his three Games last week picking up 3 Saves while working 3-1/3 scoreless Innings.  He struck out 6 while recording a solid 1.20 WHIP.

Brian Schneider
- Schneider turned in on for the Mets this week going 4 for 14 (.286) with 3 Runs, a Double, 2 HRs, 5 RBI, and 4 Walks in five games.  He had 2 HRs in his first 76 games prior to last week.

Corner Infielder
Jed Lowrie - With Mike Lowell on the DL, Jed Lowrie has been a nice replacement for Boston.  Last week he went 11 for 21 (.524) with 4 Runs, 6 Doubles, a Triple, 8 RBI, and 3 Walks.  Not only did he get a Hit in all but one game last week, he had an Extra-base Hit in each of those games.  He had multiple Hits in four of the 6 games as well.

Middle Infielder
Asdrubal Cabrera
- Cleveland’s Cabrera went 9 for 25 (.360), 3 Runs, 3 Doubles, a HR, 5 RBI, and 3 Walks.  He had a Hit in five of his seven games last week, including three multi-hit games.  As a bonus, he qualifies at both 2B & SS in Yahoo leagues.

Chris Dickerson - Cincinnati Rookie Chris Dickerson made a splash in his first week in the Bigs.  He went 9 for 22 (.409) with 4 Runs, 5 Doubles, a Triple, a HR, 2 RBI, 2 Walks, and a SB.  He had a Hit in four of five games, and multiple Hits in three games.  He didn’t make anyone forget about Griffey or Dunn, but it’s nice to know the Reds could be in good hands in the future.

When these things are remembered no one will marvel at the ease with which Alexander held the Empire of Asia, or at the difficulties which others have had to keep an acquisition, such as Pyrrhus and many more; this is not occasioned by the little or abundance of ability in the conqueror, but by the want of uniformity in the subject state.
