Fantasy Baseball Weekly Wonders Vol. 21

Aug 25, 2008

Here is a a look back at the past week in baseball to bring you the surprising stars.

Pitcher
Barry Zito - I’m gonna show Barry Zito some love this week and include him in the Weekly Wonders.  Barry looked like his old self (at least in the box scores) throwing 15 Innings in two starts.  He won both games and recorded a 1.80 ERA and a 0.93 WHIP.  He struck out 8.

Catcher
Pablo Sandoval
- Zito’s Battery Mate also had a successful week.  He went 11 for 24 (.458) with 4 Runs, 3 Doubles, 2 RBI, and a Walk.  He currently sports an eight-game hitting streak.  Not a bad way to start a career.

Corner Infielder
Greg Dobbs - Philadelphia’s Greg Dobbs went 4 for 11 last week with 4 Runs, a HR, 4 RBI, a Walk, and a SB.  In Yahoo leagues he qualifies at 1B, 3B, and OF.

Middle Infielder
Nick Punto
- Minnesota’s Nick Punto was a spark plug last week going 13 of 29 (.448) with 6 Runs, 2 Doubles, a Triple, an RBI, a Walk, and a SB.  He’s currently sporting a twelve-game hitting streak.  Not only does he qualify at 2B, 3B, and SS in Yahoo leagues, he actually played all three positions last week.  He also had the most Hits in the Majors last week.

Outfielder
Darin Erstad - Houston’s Darin Erstad had a busy week.  He played 1B, RF, LF, and CF.  Talk about versatility.  At the plate he went 10 of 25 (.400) with 6 Runs, a Double, a HR, an RBI, a Walk, and a SB.  He had hits in all but one of his games last week (and in ten of his last eleven games).
